You don't. Gar are pretty hard to hook. It helps to use longer lines they can't feel until it's down their throat, but we were fishing for cats. Some are just accidentally caught.

I'd go with tin sheets for big gar. Those are the titanium scissors. Think you can order online from taxidermy supplies or maybe the net companies

He definitely was not a long nose. I think juvenile Alligator Gar, but I could be wrong. His spots were not as distinct as most Spotted gar, but I'm no Gar expert or biologist. I'm sure me putting Gator gar will make for a lot of comments 🤣

I ate it when I was younger but when I got pregnant with my little girl I got sick from it and had it crammed in my sinuses for two weeks can’t even stand the smell of it cooking, sacalait bass bream we good catfish ehhhh only in a gravy and very seldom.
