Allium Flowers 150 Day Timelapse of Beautiful ‘Purple Sensation’ Alliums Growing

Allium flowers time lapse. 150 day time lapse of beautiful 100 ‘purple sensation’ allium flowers that I planted last November showing them growing from bulb to full flower. I filmed the footage using my Blink garden security cameras which was a bit of a challenge but the costs were significantly cheaper than buying a dedicated time-lapse camera system. Oh, that is really beautiful. I just discovered your channel. As a healthcare worker doing night shifts I found these images like a balm for my soul. I really like gardening but I'm far away from my home 3500 km precisely. Thank you sir for giving me and others a bit of colour and positivity. I had to plant my bulbs in late December with the weird weather going on in South Carolina right now. I think we’re finally out of the 70s, but its still getting into the mid 60s every once in a while! I hope my bulbs are able to do well…

Dont plant too early this year it is a bit warm in autumn and mine purple sensation are already showing leaves

Thanks, and I think you are right. It seems the bulb supplier 'Farmer Gracy' delivered the wrong bulbs. They still look great though but I wonder if the real deal 'purple sensation' alliums would look even better!

@@tomsgarden They wouldn't be, at least I really prefer the Christophii🤗❤️ Btw I also had the same problem with farmer gracy, they delivered me only white liatris spicata (amazing plant!!) and instead of Allium ping pong they send me something else which makes green sprouts instead of flowerhead..... They have an amazing site and service but mistakes like these really turn me off

My Allium didn't flower this year 😔 can anyone explain why ? They are watered well and get plenty of sun not sure what else it could be any advice please ? Loved this time lapse video excellent 😊👍🏻

Thanks very much for liking my video. 😊 In response to your question, I’m not sure of the exact reason for your Allium not flowering but this year my Alliums that you saw in my time lapse video did not flower well at all. Only 30 flowered out of 100 that flowered last year and i was even expecting at least 300 to flower this year because alliums multiple each year. I believe the reason for this epic fail this year was because here in the UK we had an exceptionally wet winter and my alliums were planted in heavy clay soil which can get waterlogged if there is too much rain. This waterlogged soil can cause the alliums roots to rot and hence not flower and to try and prevent this adding medium to the soil to help it drain better, like sand, loam or gravel could be a solution.

Great video! Question: why are they growing at an angle, away from your fence? Does the fence cast shade?

Thanks a lot. Good question. There’s a large oak tree overhanging the garden by this side of the fence which casts some shade but also the sun is highest when it gets to the other side of the garden due to the garden being south west facing.

100?! Wow. How much did they cost, total? I bought some allium bulbs last fall and they were expensive. Only got maybe a dozen.

Thanks for your nice feedback. I bought 100 for a total cost of £15 from famergracy.com. But if you can keep a secret it was about 95 out of 100 of them that went onto germinate and flower but I thought ‘100’ looks better in the video title!

I planted them in November and the time lapse filming ended in early May the following year. The best time to plant alliums in the UK for spring flowering is from September till mid November before any frosts.
