Almost Finished With This Anvil Repair
I am almost finished with this anvil repair and hope to be using it by the weekend. There is a very small amount of welding to be done but for the most part it is just about there.

Good morning Jim. I usually don’t have much to say about your videos because I’ve never done timber frame, welding or blacksmithing. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your knowledge and expertise. Keep teaching and putting out the videos. 👍👍👍

Dear Jim, That's some heavy iron you got there. It's looking surprisingly good. Cannot wait to see Jim swinging that hammer & mould some steel into shape. Very well done. Kind regards.

That’s got a nice ring Jim and it sounds pretty much the same all across the face. I think you are very nearly there. Looks like you will be up and running very soon now and a great anvil to work off of. All the best Graham 🇬🇧🇬🇧⚒

Morning Jim. Great camera angle during the welding, really got to see how well the exhaust vent/blower pulls the smoke away from you and out of your work area. Surface is visibly better and the edge is WAY better than before your repairs. Good job. But why didn't we get to see any 7 inch grinder action? Also, don't forget to change grinding directions with the belt sander so you can see the areas ground the other direction with each belt change. That way you can see that you're getting good coverage with each grit level because the scratch pattern of the previous grit shows if you don't get full coverage with the new grit. Also a good way to help get flatter surfacing. See you on the next one.

I don't think the anvil will loose its hardness via the method you're using to repair. It is a good time to end anvil hammer blows.

FYI....it looked like the sparks when welding were traveling over the metal back shield and may be landing on the timber frame....might want to review the video real close to confirm or deny.

I decided I'm going to finish this anvil first. A friend lent me a 7" grinder and that made all of the difference.

@TheTradesmanChannel

No problem at all. 7018AC to build up the missing edges and Hardalloy 58 to fix the face. Both rods can be used with an AC welder.

I think your cheating... The old timers said you could always tell if a blacksmith was any goo by if the anvil was to hot to touch at the end of the day. But in this case, I don't think torching the anvil with a propane torch was what they had in mind.
