I read up on the wiki regarding the 2, she was the only one able to defeat her in combat so Delta looks at Alpha AS the Alpha dog, but she didn't DESTROY her in a battle. She just is superior, not by a landslide, but enough to make Delta know her place. I don't think she FEARS Alpha in a literal sense, but more so in a respectful way. That's why whenever Alpha calls her name so sternly, she responds like a pup. It's a... canine... thing.

Intelligence* Shadow and Alpha are not just strong physically and with magic, they're also smart combatants. Alpha is obviously very smart and wise, and Shadow, or Cid, for all the tomfuckery tendencies he got, is actually pretty smart himself. Cid is basically Ayanokoji Kiyotaka if he was a chuuni.

Cid or Shadow is actually really smart, it's not obvious since he's chuuni but all the things he does are by no means normal even if you use magic control as an excuse. Alpha is also like that and you can call her an inferior in terms of combat potential of shadow, since she's number 2 in shadow garden, like her magic, physical prowess, lineage, and martial ability pale in comparison to shadow since that dude has lived and trained in two different lives and possesses extensive knowledge of both worlds.

I dont watch this show, but the way you describe her feels like Zaraki Kenpachi for me (Bleach's brute strength monster, who has no knowledge in magic)

In a arc shadow explained that delta is excellent at tracking (to find bandit cid favorite past time) but due to her nature. They were killed before he arrived. So he asked her to wait for him. This stresssed delta so much that she started taking her frustation on everyone below her in strengh which is only cid and alpha. Bullying gamma, destroying garden....and so on.

Delta actually is more obedient with Alpha than Shadow, ¡¡¡SPOILERS!!!: actually in one part Alpha order something from Delta and Delta do it without hesitation, then shadow order Delta don't do that and do another thing, and instead of follow the order, Delta was doubting in Shadow order, and rather she almost refuses Shadow order because she was thinking in Alpha Order... in the end Shadow convince Delta telling her that he talk with Alpha so she dont need worry about the change of plans... but that show how tamed is Delta for Alpha that not even Shadow can control her totally... If you read the LN you gonna see, shadow is not an almighty being, in example, Gamma and Delta are a bit more obedient with Alpha than for the own Shadow... the other 5 Shades (including Alpha of course) are totally obedient on Shadow... some numbers, show to be more obedient to another Shades instead of Shadow... one example of this is NU with Gamma... other is Lambda with Epsilon... but in mostly cases numbers show to be more obedient for Shadow, one example of this would be Noº559 (Victoria)... If youy read the WN then is much worst, Shadow is not even the leader of his own organization anymore... he is juts a traumatized scared kitty learning how to be a real eminence in shadow... and both Alpha and Pandora are Above him actually because in WN both are stronger than him... at least until he start to focusing and try to be the eminence again, but he gonna still being more weak than Alpha and Pandora...

Delta at that time after knew that John Smith was Shadow, she was about to go back and report to Alpha that John Smith was Shadow, but Shadow stopped her. He then gave her another mission which was to kick Juggernaut's ass, and Delta followed Shadow's order, abandoned Alpha's. So Delta is more obedient to Shadow than Alpha. Also in the first night they met, Sarah (Delta's old name) when she saw Alpha, attacked her right away, but when she saw Shadow, she felt the unimaginable strength Shadow possesses and submitted immediately. That's how overpowered Shadow is, even compared to Alpha. Shadow is strong enough to take on the whole Shadow Garden with ease and still wins.

Actually incorrect the current order is still Shadow > Alpha > Delta > Zeta. Zeta is said by Shadow to have a higher pontential than both Alpha and Delta however Alpha's magic control and intelligence and Delta's raw physical strength and speed are just that much higher than zeta currently. Even Epsilon due to her precise magic control can beat Zeta but not without extreme effort.
