It feels like I can understand everything you are saying in this video. I recently got away with max cushion shoes. I realized my leg muscles only had gotten weaker in them. My running form compromised. I made a radical change by turning to zero cushion Vivobarefoot shoes. I can run like 10 miles in them now, but they are a bit too harsh for distance running as I still get blisters. Just got my Escalante Racer today in hope I could run many more miles without blisters while TRAINING MY LEGS EVERY SINGLE STEP as you say. I won't waste my time any more. I believe many people fail their zone 2 or Maffetone training because they run in *wrong* shoes.

@@BornToRunCoach My right foot (since running in zero drop ) can't make up it's mind how to hit the ground. I've noticed it changing in mid air. Things have begun to improve as I allowed the foot to do it's own thing. The correct use of the foot was therefore impaired while running in the carbon shoe for 6 consecutive weeks. This impacted on the whole natural dynamics of my legs. A few short 5 mile runs in my zero drop, and things are slowly getting better. My feet and legs maybe getting stronger.

I really appreciate the review. I feel like I learned a lot about it. Anyhow, I'm not much of a runner, but I'm looking for a shoe that's me feel comfortable just for every day while being on my feet all day. I work with special needs kids out in the field. I also want to feel comfortable walking long distances. For example, taking my daughter around in amusement parks, things like that. Should I try this? I've only worn regular shoes before, like Adidas and Nike. Or go for something with more cushion? I'm a total noob. I lift and play basketball. Average shape (out of shape as of late for me). Never worn a zero drop or barefoot shoe before. Willing to take long patient approach to get used to it.

Thanks for the video. I have 2 pairs of Escalante shoes the last 5 years or so. I no longer go for Altra. The main reason is that the quality has dropped drastically. My 2 pairs of Escalante (1.5 and 3) gave up on me during my long runs. The rubber pieces at outer soles literally dropped off one after another.

I just bought a pair of Torins as my first zero drop shoes. I thought the Escalante would be the one for me, but I didn’t like the feel of the knit upper. Too loose feeling. Once I’m stronger and comfortable running in them, I might check out the Escalante Racer as well.

Born To Run Coach Eric Orton They are feeling great so far! After reading The Cool Impossible this summer I have been following your advice to start transitioning to forefoot running over the past few months in my ‘regular’ shoes (NB1400). Starting in the Altras has not felt like as dramatic of a change as I thought it might, but I’m slowly easing into them still. I do think I will like a lower profile once I’m stronger though. I’ve always tended to gravitate toward lower profile shoes to begin with.

Hi Eric! I run in a pair of Nike pegasus turbo 2, but I would like to transfer to zero drop because I have a problem with shin splints, overstriding and overpronation. Do you think Escalante would be a good choice for me to help me fix those problems? Thanks :)
@BornToRunCoach
@BornToRunCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think a change to the Escalante coupled with foot strength and form would be a good triple attack for this. Keep in there will be a transition time needed going from a 10mm drop of the Nike to zero drop, so if you have the book be sure to follow the transition program or just start very slowly with 5-10 minutes runs at a time. Go for it.

@BornToRunCoach
@BornToRunCoach 3 жыл бұрын
I would say the Dynafit is a speed specialist and the Inov8 a great all rounder. If I had to only have one, it would be the Inov8, more versatile. The Dynafit runs very very nice, but is firm with more protection, therefore might limit how long you run in them. And just the opposite for the Inov8. The Inov8 could be one of the best shoes in a long long time.

@BornToRunCoach

Couple of things to be aware of. You might be over striding BUT pointing your toes upon landing in an effort to strike eith your forefoot, and therefore causing your foot to slide forward a little causing friction. And with the wide toebox could be getting alot of movement and that slide forward??? And/or could be keeping your heel off the ground when striking the ground, causing stress and irritation to the forefoot. Hope this helps.

@@BornToRunCoach thankyou for the helpful reply. So it is more than likely my form rather than the shoe. That's great, I can work om that 👌
@BornToRunCoach
@BornToRunCoach Жыл бұрын
@@jakeflintfilm I would start there and see if you are reaching out a little and pointing the toes when you land. Especially if you might do hills and lots of downhills where the foot could stride forward as you land. Be aware of this on your next run and see if this might be happening. And if the wide toe box of Altra is new to you, this could be why.
