The 5900X has 12 cores and 24 threads, and includes support for PCIe 4.0 (including Gen 4 NVMe drives). The 5900HX drops it down to 8 cores and 16 threads, and cuts support for PCIe 4.0 and Gen 4 NVMe.

Intel is better they kept the same naming system for 14 generations. All of them being on the latest node available. Where as AMD is mixing 12nm zen2+ cores into it's 7th gen. It's just as bad on the gpu side where they jumped from RX500 to RX5000. Imagine how bad it'd look if Intel was mixing sandybrige parts with kabylake and calling them both 7000 series.

Honestly This is a mountain out of a mole hill thing. The only thing they really changed was Changing R to to AI. The Current Ryzen chips are Technically Ryzen R9 GX 7XXX. Bulldozer was the FX series. And the new ones are the HX series.

Chips with 15 and 45 W could be the same actually. Power is defined by chip possibilities AND bios limitation. You can cool r5 4550 in 5 W as well as cook the athlon 7120 at 60W, if it even possible

Laptops are a bit different than desktops as it is up to the manufacturer to design it for a power draw. The chip is the same chips. Why have 2 skews just because in one laptop they run it slower so it is at 15w instead of 45w. It is the same chip with the same capabilities? Desktop CPUs are a bit different.

It's not just scummy, it's a stupid move. Imagine if they did this with desktops. Name the 5700 and 5700x both "5700x" Randomly reviews for the 5700x would be so much worse since those CPUs are 100% different from each other. So now the Ryzen laptop chips will be characterized by their worst examples..like probably an HP or Acer trash laptop that set the tdp as low as possible for cost savings.

Intel Spec scheme is garbage, you can try to defend it but its doesn't make sense to the average joe, and even people in the tech space looking for cpus aren't going to know them all without looking them up. Most couldn't tell you the difference between a KS and a K most don't even overclock and just get the K because they here from others its more powerful.
