Todays video is an American green tree frog care guide. Green tree frogs are one of the most popular pet amphibians in the world. Although they are fairly hardy frogs, they do have some specific care requirements that you should know of in order to keep them healthy and happy. I hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful. If you have any questions or if I've left anything out, don't hesitate to leave me a comment below.

What Wattage would you recommend to use for the green tree frogs it would really help

For uvb a low level .5 uvb. But these guys don’t need much heat. Mid to high 70s is good, but not over 80. Since my reptile room stays around the mid 70s I don’t us any extra heat source. A heat bulb could get too warm and be harmful to them. On mine I just have a .5 uvb and some full spectrum led’s for the plants..

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a bioactive enclosure before I get my frogs but I'm struggling to find recommendations for suitable plants, do you have any suggestions please?
@WonderfulWorldReptiles

There are a lot of plants that are good for tree frogs. Anything with broad leaves that they can sit on, like pathos, philodendron, zz plant. Epephtic bromeliads are really good for them, but ther’s the extra challenge of mounting those on the background. You can order bromeliads from Josh’s frogs. I have Hoyas in this tank and the frogs love them, but they can be hard to find. I ordered mine from someone on Etsy. They’ll sit on the big leaves of calathia, umbrella tree, or croton, but those plants get pretty big so those would work in a large enough enclosure. If they’re tree frogs they’ll spend all of their time up high so if it’s a tall enclosure the plants on the bottom are more for looks and you could use anything you like for the looks of it. Ferns and moss always look great, but I find it challenging to keep moss alive in tall enclosures because moss needs a lot of bright light, so maybe cover the bottom with leaf littler. Any plants for frogs need to be tropical plants that like a lot of moisture since they get misted every day. As long as their are enough leaves up high and the leaves are a size where they can flatten their whole body down on it, they’ll like it.

Hey, I'm in the process of researching and I know this is a little off topic but what is a good light fixture/bulb for a bioactive 10 gallon vertical tank? I'm having some trouble finding a solid answer. Thank you!

I suppose it depends on what species will live in the vivarium. If you’re doing a 10 gallon aquarium converted to a vertical enclosure then it would have a glass top. Any uvb would be eliminated as it goes through the glass so uvb is difficult in that type of setup. But some reptiles, like a crested gecko, and most frogs don’t really need uvb. If it’s a planted bioactive vivarium then the most important thing would be full spectrum leds to grow plants well. The side of a 10 gallon aquarium is 12 inches. If it was me I would used a 12 inch zoomed hood, with the Arcadia jungle dawn full spectrum led bulb. Here’s a link to both of those on Amazon. Hope that helps. www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Naturalistic-Terrarium-12-Inch/dp/B001HW7ZS0/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1UKA0V8TSYZ91&keywords=zoo+med+12+inch+hood&qid=1660871246&sprefix=zoomed+12+inch+hood%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-2 And www.amazon.com/Jungle-Dawn-Watt-Terrarium-Light/dp/B0768NBYQX/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1YOS5ZZIGKH1T&keywords=Jungle%2Bdawn%2Bbulb&qid=1660871056&sprefix=jungle%2Bdawn%2Bbulb%2Caps%2C72&sr=8-2&th=1

@@WonderfulWorldReptiles oh thank you for responding so quickly! Would you recommend the 13 watt or 9 watt? I'm not well versed in the minute details😅 this is my first try at a bioactive planted enclosure. The tank is a standard zilla 10 gallon tank with the mesh top just for clarification
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles Жыл бұрын
@@isuckatnamingthings5499 well, They are very bright lights, very bright. So for a tank that size, I think the 9 watt would work fine. Plus it’s a little less expensive. Those bulbs are not the cheapest but they really are good and plants grow really well under them. I’m curious what is going to live in it. If it’s any type of frog, I’d cover about 3/4 of the top with a piece of plexiglass to help it hold in humidity. The dimensions on that longwise might make it better to have the 18 inch zoomed hood. Although if you do that then there are sockets for two bulbs and that would star costing more too. But as bright as they are with that size two of those jungle dawn bulbs might actually be too bright.

Hey I just wanted to update saying thank you for the help! I bought the bulb that same day and let my plants settle into their new homes for a month before introducing any animals. As for the frog, I ended up getting a reed frog. They are incredibly small and I only have 1 at the moment because I wanted to make sure my tank was the appropriate size before I got multiple. I know what the care guides say but I'm always skeptical of them haha. I'm uploading a short clip of it on my channel if you're interested.

Will a blue halogen bulb that comes with the terrarium be ok for em? Thanks!
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles Жыл бұрын
Even though the blue lights are marketed as night lights, it’s now known that blue lights will disrupt their day/night cycle, so it’s not recommended to use them at night. You might also want to use an infrared temp gun to make sure it doesn’t create too much heat.

@@WonderfulWorldReptiles ok, good to know, what lights do you recommend as for day lights? Thanks for the response:)
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles Жыл бұрын
@@MarioMan20046 For mine I have a low level uvb light plus a full spectrum led aquarium light for the plants. My reptile room stays in the low to mid 70s so that’s fine for them, so I don’t have any type of heat lamp on them. I use that same light setup for all of my other frogs too.

do you think a 10 gallon tank is okay? i don't have much money and this was the cheapest one for me.
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles 2 жыл бұрын
Some people go by a general rule of 10 gallons per frog. With that I think one or maybe two would be fine in a 10 gallon as long as they had a lot of foliage to climb on. I think more then two in a 10 gallon would be pushing it it a little too much, o I guess it would depend on how many you have. But yes, I think one or two would be okay.

Just got a tree frog if they dont hunt food is it best to get flyiing insects
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles 18 күн бұрын
That’s a good question. I’ve never used flying insects to feed tree frogs so it’s hard for me to tell you about. I put the crickets in the vivarium and leave them, but honestly I’ve never seen either of these green tree frogs go after or take down a cricket once. I did see one grab a snail though. But I know they’re eating them because they are fat and healthy and poop a lot. If it’s a new frog moved into a new enclosure it could need some time to settle in and feel safe so it could go off food for a short time until it gets used to that. If it was me though I would stick with crickets.

Is it okay to use a heat pad
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles Жыл бұрын
These frogs don’t need that much heat. 70 to 80 degrees is a good range, but 80 is the high end of that range and I wouldn’t let them go higher then that. My reptile room usually stays around 70 to 75 degrees and I don’t give them any additional heat source. If it was me I wouldn’t use a heat mat. If it’s colder then 70 degrees where you have them you might need to, but whether you use a heat mat or a low wattage bulb, don’t let it get too warm. That can be bad for them. Higher then 80 for an extended amount of time could be very bad for them. Hope that information helps.
