This summer once I move into my new place I’m going to be setting up a vivarium for my mexican black king snake, and later an arizona mountain king once my mbk outgrows it. I’ve been researching about the area a lot and I’m really excited! I’ve also been stumped on what plants to use but I think I’ll be using a lot of small manzanita swigs that look similar to the sagebrush. I’m also going to attempt to use foam to carve realistic rock features so I hope that all works out.

Yes, the finex lights are only full spectrum led. Good for plants, but no uvb. If it's a reptile that needs heat I really like the zoomed mercury vapor bulbs because you get heat and uvb and UVA together. It does suck that the lights get so expensive though.

Just got a tree frog if they dont hunt food is it best to get flyiing insects
@WonderfulWorldReptiles
@WonderfulWorldReptiles 18 күн бұрын
That’s a good question. I’ve never used flying insects to feed tree frogs so it’s hard for me to tell you about. I put the crickets in the vivarium and leave them, but honestly I’ve never seen either of these green tree frogs go after or take down a cricket once. I did see one grab a snail though. But I know they’re eating them because they are fat and healthy and poop a lot. If it’s a new frog moved into a new enclosure it could need some time to settle in and feel safe so it could go off food for a short time until it gets used to that. If it was me though I would stick with crickets.

Unfortunately that would be no to both of those. There are a few videos out there of people who have tame and handleable phelsuma grandis, but those are very rare exceptions. I enjoyed your presentation. I tried out a BP after raising two boas, but it didn't work out. He stayed hidden and wouldn't eat so I gave him back. I couldn't justify a rat giving up its life and then the snake refusing to consume it. That's not nature taking its course. Also, I'm not sure about the bioactive enclosure. It seems akin to digging a hole in the backyard for your dog to live in. I don't mean that as a criticism because it's apparent that you care very much for your animals.

The bioactive thing was a bit much for me to get used to, but if it’s a good working system it does stay cleaner then what I could do. Most of the time I don’t spot clean any poop because the bugs and things eat it before I even get to it.

Quick question, is it ok to get isopods from outside for my anole vivarium? I see you said you got some from your garden in this video which makes me ask but folks on Reddit seem to think it’s not sterile. I’ll take your advice over the reddit people anyday!😂
@WonderfulWorldReptiles

Well , I appreciate that. Although, I could always be wrong, although I’ve only used field collected isopods for years in any bioactive enclosures from tarantulas to snakes and tree frogs, and I’ve never had any problems. I believe that the whole sterilizing thing is an outdated husbandry myth that a lot of people are stuck on. I do make sure I collect them in places that are clean and healthy and chemical free..

I loved watching your video! I put in a drain to pull rainwater away from my house and now there's a small pond about 3 feet wide and 6 feet long. It's about 12 ti 14 inches deep. I'm thrilled to see a few frogs in it. Today I noticed green slim covering the top of the water so I Googled how to remove it. I then gently used a long prong rake to remove it. The bottom is mud which I read the frogs will burrow in during our cold winter. I love visiting this area to check on my new friends!

I would love to have some different anoles. It’s definitely something I’ve considered. Heat can be tricky. I tend Toby conservative with heat. It’s hard to hit a target temperature exactly, but I try to lean towards a few degrees cooler rather than being too hot. I end up having to experiment with different bulbs to get it right, but the hard thing is that every enclosure is different so it’s always changing some….if that makes sense.

I raised/bred gecko's, many different species, mostly day gecko's. For my leopards plus golden gecko's in the same enclosure, i put a small hamster wheel in there on the off chance they would try it. I used a laser to get the gecko's to enter the wheel. The male leopard started walking in the wheel, and he took to it right away. Next thing I know ALL the leopard geckos in the enclosure were. After days/weeks they started lining up to use the wheel while another leopard was in the wheel,.My golden gecko came down from the top of the cage and would run the outside of the wheel upside down as he could get on the back. It was awesome, they would fight for wheel time so we added another wheel. The wheels we used were solid plastic, no bars, open on the side and the back closed ,so their tails couldnt get caught. All my leopards used the wheel, my goldens as well, a few of my day geckos used wheels too. The golden's would burn rubber on there, the leopards mainly walked got out looked around got back in and walked some more...it entertained them all day long and all night for the golden's.
