Thank you for posting this. I've been working on my genealogy too. My great grandma always said we were Welsh, and my dad's DNA test confirmed it. I look forward to learning about the area they came from. What an amazing adventure. Thanks to people who share their stories via you tube and other outlets I have got to learn about the German Russions on my dad's dad's moms side. I've learned about the American Orphan trains that my mom's dad's grandfather road after him and his brother were orphaned in New York. I may not have letters in my ancestors own words but the general knowledge of the time and area has helped me to appriciate them all the more. I have a feeling for how and where they lived. again thank you for your post. It doesnt always have to be the people with thousands of subscribers to put out good content.

My grandfather moved his motherless children to Vermont from north Wales in the early 1900's. Leaving them with his sister, he went on to Chicago and all the opportunities that booming City of Broad Shoulders offered. John Roberts was proud to be an American.

My grandmother and grandfather’s families were from Wales, Jones and Williams. That’s all I know. My dad was born in Liverpool. Nice video.

My mother is a Williams from Alabama. They traced the family name back to Roger Williams who founded Rhode Island. I heard the clan was the last to leave Iberia.

Brings back memories of when I visited the home village of my immigrant GG GF James George- Wolfscastle in Pembrokeshire. I visited St. Dogwells Parish where his parents, my 3rd GGP James George and Margaret Roach were married in 1842 and Margaret's grandparents (my 5th GGP) Samuel Roach and Anne Bevan were married in 1788. Then, where their house was near Lordship Farm (torn down & replaced, 1928) and the original barn. Unreal.

Such a nice change to see an American who doesn't claim to be Scottish or Irish.
@scottjackson46026 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of Americans are Welsh, but they don't know it so they just say Scottish or Irish. I'm a Scottish American, and I know several others that say they are too but they aren't.

While I know for sure on my mom's side I have Scottish ancestry because the Huntley Castle is from way back on her Huntley family. I suspect Welsh on my dad's side but couldn't prove other than my 2nd great grandpa was James Welsh Kemp and was from Poole England not far from Wales

@@2380Shaw the name Welsh is Irish Meaning briton
@rhodritaylor72543 жыл бұрын
@@hod2116 no its not, it actually derives from a mixture of germanic and Latin. Wealas. It was a term used to describe the gauls by the Romans then later a term to describe "Western inhabitants of the roman empire". Anglo saxons started to use it to refer to anyone who wasn't saxon in britain at the time ie "britons".This included wales, cornwall and some areas of modern day northern England. Its even suspected that the word saxon derives from the Welsh word "saeson" which means "English people" but to be honest its probably the other way around. Nothing to do with Ireland or Irish language. Sorry.

I don't why so many Americans of Welsh descent are not aware of their Welsh roots, It is only Irish roots Scottish roots, and English roots.
@pauldurkee47642 жыл бұрын
I've heard it said that the Welsh who emigrated to the US integrated so completely that they became invisible as such. I think it was George Washington who said that Welsh people made good Americans. 👍
@barnowl5774 Жыл бұрын
About five of the early American Presidents had Welsh roots. I have Welsh ancestors who emigrated to America for coal mining jobs in Pennsylvania and as Mormon converts who went to the area around Salt Lake City in Utah. Apparently the town of Malad was once thronging with the Welsh. (I'm Australian with Welsh parents.)

I don't know how the hell someone can trace their geneology to 1000. The furthest I could get was 1500s in southern France and 1500s in England and Germany
@gyorkshire2573 жыл бұрын
You just have to hit a prominent person, an aristocrat, their family trees are very well documented. But in reality, anyone who had a couple of ancestors in England in 1900 is descended from everybody in England in 1066 who left descendants.
