I love American Psycho. The Paul Allen axe scene and the business card scenes always cracks me up. So many memorable moments.

You wouldn't think that this movie would be adapted as a musical, but it surprisingly works brilliantly. Also, Christian Bale's American accent is so convincing, and he apparently kept it for the entire shoot. It wasn't until the wrap party that the cast and crew realised that he was actually British.

One of the best book adaptations of all time. This movie made me a fan of Christian Bale as a performer. One of the best movies of the turn of the new millennium love the satire

I actually prefer the film over the book. Hearing Patrick give a two minute verbal history of Huey Lewis and the News while preparing to kill, is far better then spending an entire chapter on their history in a horror book.

Yeah I remember when I learned that it was becoming a movie my first thought was “Well I know a few parts of the book that are NOT going to make it into the film!!” 😂

Seriously amazing film. I saw it in the theater when i was like 16-17, not yet fully into horror, and I was not prepared for something so dark and visceral.

1:40 we need a brake down of Bloodrayne! That cast was absolutely incredible (minus a few) and need to know where it went wrong!

What kind of evil lurks inside a man's mind? That's the million dollar question concerning this film.

Bale deserved best actor for this role. It is one of the most haunting and disturbing yet fun and appealing characters you'll ever find.

I HAVE THE UNCUT VERSION ON DVD AND MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE SCENE IS WHEN PATRICK RUNNING DOWN THE HALLWAY BUTT NAKED WITH A CHAINSAW KILLING THAT HOOKER. AWESOME.

Christian Bale should have recieved a Oscar or something for his Astonishing Performance, one of my Fav. Movies ever...Greatest Psychopath on Screen ever Recorded......Confusing, Evil, Narcisstic, Empathetic, Violent. There are not many who could deliver this Mindstates so Freakin well on Screen!!!

I saw this movie while in high school and loved it-- had an assignment for AP English and read the book to do a comparison-- the book will mess with you so much more than the movie (i LOVE the movie) but they couldn't begin to show some of the things the book does

I remember love/hating this book, mostly hating the endless droning sections describing what every character was wearing and eating in excruciating and pointless detail, and deciding Ellis was just using that method to fluff up a story that could easily have been told in 100 pages or less. The movie left me kind of high & dry, though i was hard pressed to explain what i really didn't like about it. I think Less Than Zero was a much better book, kind of crushing and heart breaking, and i still can't believe he was only 21 when he published it.

I watched "Vampire's Kiss" and it makes me feel Patrick and his friends would've shown up at this point... But heck, both Peter and Patrick are obviously going through a nervous breakdown to the point where they've become monsters. Or think that at least...

They never put the scene with the plastic pvc pipe and the rat in the movie, this was the most disturbing part of the book.

I first leaned 'the book is always better' after reading 'Less Than Zero' , not to mention seeing Downey Jr. go so far down in his role its almost horrifying to watch. Like one of Charlie Sheen's home movies only noone can match Sheen's capabilities when it comes to cocaine consumption.

My younger brother gave me this but to read when we were young teens. I had to put it down half way through. I asked if something was wrong with him. The book was to much for me. Never watched the movie. The book had me deep in the lines I had to escape

I've attempted to read the novel three times and just can't do it! You're the first person to spot-on explain why it's so challenging. The movie, however, is a great watch (albeit disturbing).

my real 1st introduction to Bale was reign of fire, then I watched equilibrium when he was announced at batman, then I watched America psycho. Best introduction order EVER!😅

I'm gonna be one of those "book is better than the movie" guys, except to say while I think it's better, it might just be different. For one, the book has WAY more violence and horror. The book also has some humorous parts. An example is when Patrick takes his date to Dorsia, where image and social standing is everything. He steals a urinal cake from the men's room urinal, takes it into the kitchen, and pays the Head Chef $500 to cover it in Godiva Chocolate and serve it to his date. She takes a bite into it, realizes it's something horrible, but social standard forces her to keep it in her mouth. He watches on and enjoys. EDIT: There was another scene near the end, where's he's at the zoo, standing near a trash can waving a candy bar to entice a young boy to come over to him. When the boys goes to Patrick, he violently eviscerates the child in full view of everyone... and nobody cares. It's as if nobody notices. There are chapters of the book that can be mind-numbing. One chapter is Patrick just rattling off all of the brand-name things he owns, with most of the brand names being things that I've never heard of before, and may never experience in real life. That said, the way the book reads leads the reader to feel as if they are the ones losing their mind. You get to ride in the seat of Patrick, and that's quite a bizarre experience. The movie is fantastic. The sequel is good, although the DVD is better watched with Mila Kunis and the Director commentary turned on.

Err... No, you definitely haven't read the book if you just watched the movie. There are several scenes in the book that couldn't possibly be put to film, or at least any film that wanted a release and some money. Scenes like the description of famished rats being tunnelled into a woman's innards through her genitals would be an example of such things. Some stuff in the book is just too much, frankly.

Very nice... now let's see Paul Allen's adaptation.

Both book and movie are amazing. The book is so graphic I’ve always said the movie is like the Disney version lol. One thing about the book, I’ve never experienced wanting to throw up one moment then cracking up laughing the next. The book is known for how crazy violent it is, and it’s very true, but it doesn’t get enough credit for how funny it is. That being said the movie made me an instant Christian Bale fan.

The first 89(!) pages almost had me giving up but made it even more rewarding not to athe end.

Reading and seeing the movie, it was all in his head, too many inconsistencies to actually happen, the level of detail in the book was at first off putting, was a good read then, I read the book before I watched the movie, also Johnny Depp was also considered for the roll, this is the only movie I watch with Christian bale

Spectacular film and cast. Christian Bale and Willem Dafoe are top-notch as per usual, and even as much as I despise the ultra-douche that is Jared Leto, he fits perfectly here.

I watched this movie for the first time last summer ish. It took me so long because I had heard so many who liked it, but I thought Bateman's character was going to be like Buffalo Bill. So I saw Buffalo Bill when I was like 8 or so. So I didn't get it entirely, but what I got I didn't and that feeling always stuck with me. So that's why I avoided this movie, but once I watched it I absolutely loved it. I wish we would have got something else. The sequel was awful obviously.

Christian Bale outdid himself here. He was perfect for the part & really nailed the horrifying nature of Patrick Bateman. The nods to ‘80s music never fails to be interesting especially using Huey Lewis for the best kill of the film; even Huey Lewis parodied the scene with Weird Al for Funny or Die. Plus it’s a great touch that writer Guinevere Turner and director Mary Harron decided to have Dafoe alternate his performance to mess with our minds as well as Patrick to see if he knows Patrick is delusional or an actual murderous maniac; that ambiguity at the end also plays well into not giving a straightforward answer

The book is better fist read it in collage but am listening to the audiobook recently. Forgot how much more racist and sexist him and his group is. Reminds me of blood meridian how everyone’s a dick. The book is great and they put what they could in the movie.
