I was in the British army for 18 years and never met any American troops who could keep up with us. We had a night out with some guys from 82nd Airborne. They tried to keep up with us but all failed, we ended up carrying some of them back. PTSD, every soldier who has seen combat is effected in some way. Although the British Army has 'inferior ' vehicles to the Yanks, the Taliban fighters couldn't break into a Challenger 2 tank after it shed its tracks. For 8 hours they hit the Tank with everything they had, they smashed all the glass and the optics but they couldn't break into the Tank. The British Squaddie improvises and maximises the equipment hes given. One thing is for sure, the US and the British soldiers are equal when it comes to dying. Respects to them all.

Problem is, the USA hasn't won a single war without outside help, mainly from the UK. Equipment doesn't win wars knits own, you need decent troops as well, and the UK forces are well trained and just don't know when to give up.. I note that the SBS didn't even warrant a mention when it comes to special forces, presumably they are secret weapon no. 1 in the UK army. But I also noticed no mention was made of the one group which could beat the US army single handed, the Gurkhas. (The reason the world will eventually be run by ??-just can't remember the country but think it might be Brunei-, India, Nepal, Singapore and the UK). And policed by the mighty Gurkhas.

Oh... and also? If the Brit's were awful with their empire, as nearly all empires are? Why would the Gurka's freely support us still? Or time in India wasn't simple. Or perfect. But certainly not black & white. Good aspects existed.
@magswoody7892
@magswoody7892 3 жыл бұрын
Nor did they mention the SRR which is part of special forces and has had women in their ranks for years, they neglect to mention most of the US military is a copy of the British military especially their special forces and use the British SAS as their blueprint and Brits have also help train them from time to time. One thing this didn't take into account is that the Brits don't like to lose wars and don't lose them that often, there's a reason for the 3 lions, the US or any other country under estimate us Brits at their peril.
@OiOiSillyBoi
@OiOiSillyBoi 3 жыл бұрын
@@alanleys As for the Gurkhas, it was during Britains' attempts to invade Nepal from India, that the partnership began. British forces admired the Gurkhas' military abilities and honourable tactics (they put up one hell of a fight), and first recruited Gurkha troops in 1815. The Peace Treaty that ended the war in 1816 enabled the British to officially recruit Nepali Gurkhas - and so began Britain's relationship with Nepal, our 'oldest ally' in Asia. It's an old friendship that stems back over 200 years. Both the British and Gurkhas had upmost respect for each other, and since then we've been recruiting Gurkhas from Nepal to the Royal Gurkha Rifles regiment. I would also like to touch on your comments about The British Empire. Despite your current view, the British Empire did in fact do more good than it did bad, so to say all empires are bad is frankly, wrong. The sole principle governing the British Empire was to promote "Freedom of the people". We did that through colonisation, establishing parliamentary democracies, judiciary systems, economic structure, trade routes, public services, transport links, road networks, defence, infrastructure, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of opinion, and so forth. Our methods had roots from the Roman Empire, when they colonised Britain, and built infrastructure, roads, entertainment, food, etc. So yes, the empire had its bad parts, sure; We stole gold from India and various other artefacts from all over the world, many reside in the British Museum to this day. However, we also gave each of those countries democracy, the foundations and values for them to prosper, to grow, and to evolve into vibrant, self-governing economies. We forged much of the world we know today. When people think of the British Empire, they usually bring up the slave trade; We were also involved in the practice, yes, but many forget that we did the MOST of any nation to abolish it. The Royal Navy were actually stationed on the west coast of Africa to intercept and liberate slaves heading to the Americas/Caribbean. They were called the West Africa Squadron, and they liberated an estimated 150,000-200,000 slaves during a period when Britain was the only country to have abolished the trade. To prevent conflict with other nations still practicing the trade, i.e. the US, the British compensated slave owners as a form of mitigation. Many of those liberated started new lives in what is now Sierra Leone, and there is a placard in its capital, Freetown, to this day, in memory of the squadron that liberated many of their ancestors. So, yes, the empire had its bad parts, but it did a whole lot more good for the world, particularly, in forging much of the world we know today :)

Something that was omitted from this video is the fact that the U.S.A. currently relies upon GCHQ here in the U.K. for a lot of its intelligence because of our strategic geographical location and if we were at war with one another it's not as if us Brits would be daft enough to continue with that situation, is it? Another obvious omission is the fact that if we were at war with one another who our allies would be in any such conflict....most noticeably Canada, Australia, New Zealand and a lot of the Commonwealth countries would probably be on our side as well, wouldn't they? After all Queen Elizabeth II is also Head of the Commonwealth therefore most of the member states would probably come in on our side as well, wouldn't they? We also don't get as much medical treatement as we require and often have to spend years waiting for it. Many die while waiting for critical operations on our awful NHS. It is rationed healthcare. There is so much respect and friendship between the US and UK these days that there's no chance any war between them will happen. I don't remember the exact date, but probably back in 2011/2012, I had to give a talk in Tuscon, AZ. I took Pam, my partner with me. She was disabled but enjoyed going out with me in the evening. We were at the hotel's bar when a whole bunch of RAF people joined as - they had been on exercise with US forces but their flight home had been delayed. Pam and I had so much fun with these guys and they were so respectful of Pam's disability. A little later, I had to fly back home and ended up waiting in an airport with a bunch of very young US army personal. I have never seen such a respectful and polite bunch of people before. I was surrounded by them and offered to move myself and my bag so they had more space and they just said "no sir, we're fine, you stay where you are". Obviously, this is nothing about their fighting ability, but I remain impressed by the professionalism and respect both the UK and US soldiers have for others.

Here’s one the biggest important information that I think these videos always leave out. That is it won’t be “The USA vs The UK” it would be “The USA vs The UK Allies/Commonwealth” we Brits know that the American army is way bigger than ours so we obviously know we need help and it would be one of the first decisions we would do even before we start being at war. When it comes to allies the UK always had better relationship with countries than most other countries have even after our empire days we are still more liked even compared to the USA. Now does that mean we will win if we did? No it won’t, but it would at least put us “British Allies” and “The USA” armies at even footing and really the win will only be decided on small technical stuff (which I won’t know as really I’m not really knowledgeable about this stuff at all, all I really only said is from what I know just from a little bit if knowledge I end up getting and from the history of what the UK & the USA have done) Personally the only reason why we would ever go to war is either because of Greed (mostly on the American side as we Brits know how bad it turned out for us with our Greed) or a Tyrant somehow gets into one of our powers (that’s actually one of the major reasons why every other non-American country was glad when Trump got taken out of office as there were obvious signs that he was becoming a Tyrant or I should say a very big Tyrant if he wasn’t already one). Though from this explanation it’s obvious from my point of view I do really only seeing the reason why we would be at war because America would have started it, I’m not saying however that it’s impossible that the UK would start it as we can easily still can start it but out of current possible reasons I can only see America starting and really I think this it’s because a lot of them seem too can’t let go of their grudges from our empire days (and if anyone comes at me saying that’s not a good enough reason well let me tell you that the current issues we are having now with Scotland & Ireland/Northern Ireland that were supposed too be solved centuries ago but they of course came back and we still have these problems, so based on that yes it’s actually a very strong likelihood war could happen between us because of that)

1 was a Chieftain gunner, we had a water boiler in the tank, you used it to heat cans or make a brew. I was in the Household Cavalry, unusually for cavalry we did a full infantry training course, after that we either went to do mounted training for ceremonial duties or went to Catterick to do armoured training. You cannot be sent on operational duties untill you are 18. This came about when two 17 year old soldiers were shot in the back of the head by the IRA.

Not mentioned here is the British SBS or Special Boat Service which is similar to the SAS but with a specialism in water based incursions. In fact during the Falklands war the SBS were used prior to the British response to Argentinas invasion to land and set up reconnaissance to monitor the Argies to provide intelligence for the Brits. They were launched into canoes some 200 miles from the landing zone and had to canoe in to avoid detection. Just as bad ass as the SAS or even more so.

I have PTSD. It’s so exhausting. I hate being so hyper alert all the time and in constant fight or flight mode. Slowly it is getting easier to deal with (I haven’t had to take any medication for it since 2019 so I guess that’s a good sign). I’m relieved I don’t like alcohol as I guess if I did that would have been a crutch for me 💗 xx

£15,985 is equal to $22,691.75 USD and £20,400 is equal to $28,961.23 USD while for sergeants £35,853 is equal to $50,898.89 USD, so once trained an ordinary British squaddie will earn $3,888 USD more than their US counterpart while a British sergeant will earn $21,288.89 USD more than their US counterpart.
