Great video James!!! Frankie Boyle is hilarious, I’ve seen him a few times and his mind works so quickly! Although the last time I saw him was a while ago now. We have a comedy festival every March in Glasgow and then the festival in Edinburgh every August so it’s really easy to catch a lot of comedians really close to home for me! I see everyone has explained ‘shell suits’ - they really were something!!! Explosion in a paint factory! I had loads of them growing up, at least the photos are entertaining now, looking back! 😂 In fact, I was at a fancy dress party on Saturday night and actually saw 6 people wearing ‘shell suits’! 😂 there was only 30-ish people there so that was a lot! Ha ha!!! We had 2 ‘Jimmy Savile’s’, 2 ‘Ali G’s’ and 2 of the ‘118 118’ guys - I’m not sure how well those costumes translate to the US audience though! 😂 (Also - I’m not condoning the Jimmy Savile costumes).

@@SimplySavageReactions 😂 Yeah, I was lucky enough to be able to tag along as my brothers +1 when he worked in music journalism so have been to loads of shows. Unfortunately he doesn’t work in this field any longer so now I only go to shows where I really want to see the band or artist. For example, I went to see Kendrick Lamar on Wednesday night in Glasgow and it was absolutely brilliant!!! With the comedy shows, Glasgow has a great comedy festival in March each year and tickets are usually pretty reasonable. The main theatres are 15 mins from my house so it’s a no-brainer a lot of the time. You’ll be able to get out and about more when your kids are a bit older, enjoy this precious time with them, it goes past so fast! My son is 15 now, and while I sometimes miss him being really small, we can do loads of these things together, he came with me to see Kendrick this week and also to see Kevin Bridges (hilarious Glaswegian comedian) 3 weeks ago too.

He said “are you working in Anne summers in Dundee developing a crotchless shell suit?” Anne summers is a sex toy and lingerie shop. A shell suit is like wearing joggers and a matching jacket…..only shiny and usually a mixture of lurid colours, we all wore them in the late 80s and 90s

For the first part where you weren't sure what was said, "...working on a crotchless shell suit". Not sure if you have shell suits in the USA, but thing of them as a tracksuit with a more shiny material. Often stereotyped as the uniform for the poor in the north of the UK.

I had a couple when I was a kid. The last time I ever let my mother pick my street clothes. They were originally design as ski wear for cold weather. Wearing in summer was a nightmare. They were printed in garish patterns and colours from the worst parts of 80s retro, they made a hideous rustling noise at the slightest movement and they were incredibly fucking flammable. But they were cheap as chips and my mother could order them from her catalogues to spread the cost over three months. You could tell which catalogues someone's mum had by identifying the hideous designs of their shell suit. I had a black one with gold spots, purple squiggly lines and green strips. It also had dayglow pink zips and a pale blue and yellow lining. It was a dark time in British history. A dark, dark time yet highly visible at night.

5:00 - "a crotchless shellsuit". It looks sort of like a tracksuit, but the finish is called shell and not soft to touch but almost like a waterproof finish, they were everywhere and awful. First fashionable in the 80s and stereotypically worn by 'neds' in Scotland and 'chavs' in England. Apparently Gucci released a $2000 shellsuit in 2019! Later the woman explains she is working for *Burberry* (a fashion brand from London). 6:43 "I'm not saying you look like a *schemie* ..." - a Scottish pejorative word meaning someone from 'the scheme' (obviously not everyone who lives in a scheme is a schemie, it's used to stereotype certain kinds of people. For scheme think of 'the projects'. After that you were right, he said "bottle opener" which in Frankie's accent ends up sounding like 'botloapner".

Yeah, he's basically slagging people for being (supposedly) trashy/vulgar/sluttish etc. Dundee is a city in the NE of Scotland, with reputation for being rough and economically depressed. He's basically accusing the womanhood of Dundee of being "ladies of easy virtue" with terrible fashion sense ("crotchless shellsuit" bit). He and the audience are well aware that it's all based on stereotypes, and no-one's got a fucking problem with that! 😝

This is banter, humour don't get upset it's "normal" in the UK for a comedian to rib the audience, just don't sit in the first row if you are a wilting flower that can't take a bit of fun... You'll notice their all laughing and joining in... It's a fun night out... You'd get similar from your best friends in most pubs around the UK... We're not all easily offended butterflies here, words are just words and this is a night out with a comedian known for this, no-one is taking it personally or seriously. Try Jimmy Carr...

I think you got most of it. Next you should check out Michael McIntyre. He’s probably the UK’s most successful comedian in terms of box office etc. He has a number of good videos on youtube, doesn’t swear too much but his observational comedy about family life is great. Start with one about kids, or trip to the dentist, or he has 1 about the ‘man drawer’.
