First off, THANK YOU for your patience! (This is my 5TH ATTEMPT POSTING THIS LMAO) I’ve been working on this video for the last 3 weeks combing through 8hrs of footage directly from the Miniatur Wunderland. I didn’t want to leave anything out at all especially After what I witnessed during my experience there! The Wunderland felt like walking through a beautiful dream! I was there for roughly 8hrs filming, and arguably could have discovered so much more if there was more time in a day ! Where should I visit next? Oh! And don’t forget to start using my link to start your language learning journey today with a discounted price : try.lingoda.com/James-Bray

my daughter, boyfriend and I aren’t in the best financial situation. But in January the Miniaturwunderland had the „Ich kann es mir nicht leisten“-campaign („I can’t afford it“). They let people in for free, who couldn’t normally afford the tickets… So we went and I was barely able to hold my tears in thankfulness. When we decided to get some fries in the restaurant, one of the inventors was there as well. So I took the opportunity and went up to him and thanked him. We both had tears in our eyes as he thanked me for thanking him. He barely gets to meet the families they are making happy with this, so it was emotional for him as well… I don’t even have the words to express my thankfulness and love towards these two men…

I was there, 2003 or something around that time. Back then they had only one floor of the building and it was small, hard to find and a secret attraction. Even back then there were so many details and love for the small things. When we came back again a few years later they had already doubled the exhibition and the Cafe was new I think. The moving cars came actually very late in comparison. I got a ticket for my birthday and will go there this year. I'm excited for the moving cars and the water tank! In the past I criticized that the ceiling didn't get any attention (you could see silver ventilation pipes, cables... ) Now it looks like they went beyond fixing it - they use the ceiling now too. A plain white ceiling would've been enough, but not for them!

Dear James, it's "DER Frau" because it's the genitive case here. When you start learning German you will hear: "It's 'DER Mann', 'DIE Frau' and 'DAS Kind'." And that is totally correct and helps you understand that there are THREE genders in the German language. BUT these are only the nominative cases of these three genders. In German there are four cases for nouns (for each gender and the plural): nominative (1st case), genitive (2nd case), dative (3rd case) and accusative (4th case). In the feminine declension, for instance, the definite articles are (in the same order): die, der, der, die [the indefinite articles are (in this order): eine, einer, einer, eine]. And as I said, in the construction "Das Bild der Frau" ("The Woman's Picture/Image") we are dealing with the genitive case of "Frau" (therefore feminine gender, as you already know, 2nd case). The genitive case indicates an attributive or possessive relationship of one noun to the other noun. E.g.: "The woman's father", "The daughter's book" is "Der Vater DER Frau", "Das Buch DER Tochter". So "the woman" as a grammatical subject is "DIE Frau" but "the woman'S sth." is "das sth. DER Frau". That's why the promotional sign on the roof says "Das Bild DER Frau". I hope I was able to formulate that in a more or less comprehensible way. 🙂

Ah, this brings back memories. In 2021 i did a Germany roadtrip together with a friend and also stopped in Hamburg for a night. Thanks to Corona you had to book a ticket in advance which we of course hadn't done. So what was the logical consequence for two stupid 19 year olds? Sleeping in the car (an old Audi A4) in the parking lot directly in front of the Miniatur Wunderland. We woke up extra early, ate our muesli on the edge of the canal and got in the Miniatur Wunderland as soon as they opened. It was no problem getting a ticket so we had more than enough time to enjoy this amazing place and discover everything. Great time all around.

The car system for the MiWuLa was actually developed by the team themselves. Before they did it there was nothing like it. The cars are all self-powered electric vehicles so they can drive at different speeds, and theoretically overtake each other if the magnetic track under the road surface is configured for it. When the sensor for the battery charge level indicates a low charge the cars automatically return to their charging stations without any intervention by humans. The outer mirrors are the charging anode and cathode for the battery. A firm but gentle clamp grips the cars by the mirrors automatically to recharge them. When they are recharged they pick up their routes again. However, like you said these routes vary constantly as the cars recieve orders and signal their position to the central server. They can follow the magnetic rails under the road surface only. Unless the crew do some 'manual' changes the cars have a randomized program they follow within certain parameters which do not require human interference. But even that was developed by the team themselves. They also coded the software for the train and car controls themselves because there simply was no system around that was as intricate as they wanted, yet as flexible as they demanded. So they did it themselves (again). Edit: Monacco gives them a LOT of trouble because they want to ACCURATELY simulate a race with constantly changing positions and cars switching places. That is a LOT more complicated than simply allowing cars to drive along a single magnetic rail with switches to turn them onto another lane. So I'm stoked to see how far they have come since Gerrit's latest Tagebuch / diaries. BTW: Gerrit is one of the two twin brothers and genius brains behind all of the MiWuLa. He has his own channel where he reports on the current projects and updates. He still looks like a little kid in a candy store afraid he's going to wake up and find out everything was a dream. 😂

I remember one time when I was in Miniatur Wunderland in the early years, less than 5 years after they openend. It was already stunnig, a lot smaller but everybody thought "It can't get better than this!"... and it gets better every time I visit. Back then, I asked a simple question when one of the Wunderlandians (the people working there) came past and a second later I found myself on a backstage-tour with my personal guide explaining everything I wanted to know. For me as a tech guy that was one of the best things ever happend to me. Every year during January they have some days where people who can't afford the tickets are invited to come there and just tell the cashier they can't afford it or just sign it somehow to get their tickets for free, they request no proof or anything, just be honest. That is the spirit behind all of this, they love to make people smile.

Coming from Munich, Germany, I have been there three times until now, and every few years there is so much new. 25:50 That's true. In July 2012 I took the guided tour and when I saw the Thai Airways A380 in the airport I said "Oh you are ahead of your time" The guide: "Why??" "Well in real life Thai Airways will not have the A380 before November." "Oh", the guide replied, "I will not tell the bosses because they would take it out until then, and that would be a shame because it is so beautiful". There is a departures table in a little display and the destinations always fit to the airlines that are taking off. The Millenium Falcon has the destination "Tattooine". 36:50 DJ Bobo is a famous musician from Switzerland, very popular in Germany.

The soccer stadium with the 50,000 small spectators stood in Hamburg's Europapassage in the city center a few years ago. The two inventors and creative minds and owners of Miniaturwunderland (Gerrit and Freddy Braun) advertised Hamburg's 2024 Olympic bid there and in many other places (in competition with Paris and Boston). So the stadium was there and 50,000 real visitors to the Passage glued each figure there themselves before the stadium was transported to Miniaturwunderland. Unfortunately, Hamburg, like Boston, withdrew its application because the people of Hamburg narrowly decided against applying.

I reacted at the begining (long video, but righfully so). Now, 22:06 in and I have to visit it. We are already talking about it with my girlfriend. I seems like you could spend like 4 hours plus a day and then the city... next day 4 hours+ and visiting the city. That would be a nice week-end trip for me and my girlfriend (it is not far away... see, already planning :) ). But gratz on the filming and editing etc, really high quality video... thanks James !

Yeah you should actually consider a full day jsut for the MiWuLa ... but you can split it into two or more days.. But uh yeah ..... no less than that. ;) (And in the summer, there is more then enough stuff to experience elsewhere in the city. ;) - like in every "bigger" city (big is in germany another thing;) )

@@hackbyteDanielMitzlaff Yeah, like I said, it could be a whole nice weekend trip (I have to take my girlfriend into consideration... but I think that I could spend two days of 8 hours there). But looking forward to it and the city to. It is maybe not enough but for a start I think it will be great. I have been to Germany often but not like that

I was there, 2003 or something around that time. Back then they had only one floor of the building and it was small, hard to find and a secret attraction. Even back then there were so many details and love for the small things. When we came back again a few years later they had already doubled the exhibition and the Cafe was new I think. The visit was not as pleasant, because it was overcrowded so badly you could barely move. The moving cars came actually very late in comparison. I got a ticket for my birthday last year and will go there this year. I'm excited for the moving cars and the water tank! It is a fantastic gift! In the past I criticized that the ceiling didn't get any attention (you could see silver ventilation pipes, cables... ) Now it looks like they went beyond fixing it - they use the ceiling now too. A plain white ceiling would've been enough, but not for them!

I can already imagine myself looking at a scne for over 30 minutes just to see all the details and the "easter eggs" that they obviously have (like the zebra, the nons aroung the small car etc). You should have a sponsor code from them because there will be many people visiting this because of this video (maybe they don't need publicity, I don't know hehe).

Real story: The "Feuer und Flamme 2024" stadium you showed at the end with all the people inside was created when Hamburg was going to apply for the Olympic Games 2024 in 2015 (eventually, the public had to vote and they voted against it). To express support for the application, people could place a miniature figure inside of this stadium model. Me and my grandma actually went there and did it, I think it was in the Europa Passage. I had forgotten about it already and didn't know they put it in the Miniatur Wunderland until you showed it. Btw: The concert stadium you showed is also pretty neat. It is the Olympiastadion Berlin and you can actually buy tickets for the Helene Fischer concert going on inside; if you buy a ticket you get to place a figure inside and it gets donated to charity.

It is absolutely incredible that they have kept their level of detail and childlike fascination for funny and nerdy references. Including staying up to date with current topics by for example introducing "Greta on ice". They grew and grew and grew, improved the technical stuff, introduced new technologies and it is still as lovely as in the beginning. Just bigger and better. It's a real gem and nobody who has not been there really understands that you can to visit multiple times and still discover details you missed before.
