American Tries German Meats for the First Time at A German Grocery Store in AMERICA

  Рет қаралды 60,899

Hi from Hamburg

Hi from Hamburg

4 жыл бұрын

In this video, My German boyfriend and I go to a German themed village near Los Angeles called Alpine village and we also went to the grocery store called Alpine Market.
We looked for all of the things he had missed from Germany including the bread, meat, coffee, and beer. Then I try the meats including the leberwurst / liverwurst which was a first for me!
Hi! I lived in Germany for 2.5 years where I studied a masters program and took intensive German classes. I am on youtube to share my love of learning about other cultures: specifically, German culture. I plan to make many videos where I compare American and German culture, including some videos where I will practice German. Please subscribe, like the video, and follow along every week for a new video. :)

It is a kind of funny how to see your boyfriend react to Bavaria. I'm Dutch and living in the North-East near the German border and I have the same issue when people say 'The Netherlands? Oh Amsterdam' it is annoying. I'm a lowe saxon, and not someone from the west of the Netherlands. It is a complex story, but I can made it short. The Netherlands (mention the s at the end) and Germany weren't always countries as they are today, but a lot of small countries. The North East part of The Netherlands is Lower Saxon, and the North West part of Germany is also Lower Saxon. So basically we are the same 'tribe' but divided in 2 countries and in those countries there are different 'tribes' too. I'm pretty sure that a dialect speaker from Oldenburg isn't understandable in Munchen, but I would understand it, and I'm having the same issue if I speak my dialect to someone from Amsterdam, but that guy or girl from Oldenburg understands me :) Beer? I know Jever because in the past I made beermugs for it :) Oh and your boyfriend should have known that Haake Beck is the best beer from Germany :P My favourite German meat? Pfff.. that is hard to choose, but Kasseler is good. It is light smoked porkchops.

It's not just a feeling - beers have different tastes, if only because the water quality in the regions is different. More or less from north to south, for example, the lime content decreases more and more, which has a major impact on the taste of beer. You can see (taste) this particularly well with "handmade" beer (craft beer) from local, mostly smaller breweries - industrial beer is another topic.

Germans and Austrians usually buy cheap "premium"(as they call themselves) beers. Smaller breweries stay local AND sell their stuff abroad. In fact, even some of the more famous german breweries like Schneider produce some special beers almost solely for the American market, where people are willing so spend more for a beer.

For coffee i prefer the Dallmayr Coffee, it's has a very good quality. That Shop is nice opportunity if like to buy something different, if like a different taste in the US. For a weekly shopping tour it's a little bit to expensive, but i guess it comes directly from Germany so the price is okay. I saw some Beer from Poland that's really good and Köstritzer Dunkelbier from Germany is a nice beer for ladies, it's a little bit sweeter than normal beer, maybe you can try that one. For liver sausage and stuff like that you need a really good, fresh made Dark bread with some onions, chives and a beer, it's like heaven. Thanks, nice to see so happy together. Very good, a lovely combination. Greetings from Vienna 👏🍻 Stay safe

Bleibt gesund!

I'm frequently around in Germany with business travellers from abroad, often from US. And I have never met more picky eaters than US americans - I feel they dream about a world where all the food is coming directly from an industrial plant...produced 100% artificial without any organic connection ! Last time we went to a bakery and I recommded a local dish - a bread roll made of dark whole flour with gouda cheese on it plus a cup of fresh cuppucino. Imagine what the choice of the US guys was ? An industrial produced plastic cup of cold capucino (mega sugar i bet) plus a sealed sandwich...

I think also 'Jakobs Krönung' is the best coffee, but it gives a lot coffees the are not as bitter and have more other tastes, as nutty, fruity, roasted or something, ut gives a pit good coffees, but of the common brands i think also that the 'Jakobs Krönung' is the best coffee.

I do love Leberwurst on Toast or on Vollkornbrot and sometimes on a Brezel (that's my favourite). The Jacobs coffee ... well .... if you ask me: The Dallmayr coffee was just left of the Jacobs and is in my opinion way better :-) Although insiders say that German coffee has a rather low quality compared to coffee in other European countries.

Hi charming lambkin, like what you do. To go to another country to study the language. Also it helps to get rid of old clichees, when young people study in foreign countries and learn about the culture. Love that. The prices in the german shop were a ripoff. so you guys stay safe and healthy. greetings from the northwestern krautlands.

I like Liverwurst. Wow, it's been many years since I visited Alpine Village! I'm glad it's still there. For the 7 years following WWII, my Mother and her family lived in the Westerthal Refugee Camp, near Kiel (in the broader vicinity of Hamburg), after having escaped from the Russian overtaking of East Germany. Then, they immigrated to the United States. Oma, Opa and one of their children have since died, but the rest of his siblings (including Mom) are still alive.

My favourite beer when I visited northern Germany and my relatives in Aurich and Oldenburg was always Jever, my young cousin is more like your boyfriend, she tells me that Jever is too bitter and she also prefers Astra which I find too bland. But the beauty of Germany is that every town has often a new beer to taste! American coffee is usually brewed too weak and with poor quality coffee! Jakob Coffee is available in our grocery stores as well but ground coffee is never as good as well roasted bean coffee!

Muesli is from Switzerland Manner Waffels are from Austria XD Carlsberg is danish - I think. At least Scandinavia. Soup from Norway or Sweden. Dallmayr is Austria. The "Wiener" are no Wiener. They are too thick..and produced in Calfornia but probably by a german butcher. ;) Looks more like a Bockwurst. Tastes good with mashed potatoes and mustard. The name Bierwurst comes probably as this ham sausage is traditionally eaten with a glass of beer. I love Leberwurst with fresh bread - no matter whether white or black. But only the fine minced not the coarse one. The texture gives me goose bumps. Try a sandwich with cheese and Nutella. *yummie* Northern beer has more sparkle and is more bitter. I am a bit disappointed your friend didn't opt for Flensburger Pilsener.
