Come along with me as my mother, my siblings and I fly to KY to my aunts funeral in a conservative Amish community! It was a sad but special time, meeting cousins I had never met!

I’m from Springfield, Missouri and we have so many Amish and Mennonite communities around us. My husband and I visited in Tennessee to meet Michael and Debi Pearl over 9 years ago. When we were there we befriended an Amish couple who traveled from PA to meet the Pearl’s as well. They were born again Christians but asked for prayers for many of their elderly family members back home in PA who were not saved! My husband and I along with many of us assumed because of the simple Amish lifestyle that they were Christians. Like all of us, they are in need of a Savior too! Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of your family with us! Very special!

How lovely that you honoured your Aunt and at the same time you and your siblings supported your mother in the loss of her sister, it cannot be easy when a family is splintered by belief’s or religion.

With Old Order strict Amish you are not allowed to photograph them etc even If it’s your family. They have a lot of rules that must be followed.
@norastorvik4155Ай бұрын
@@jenniferlynn8503 it is my hope that over the last three years you have acquired some insight into the strict rules of these people. The fact that we get to see THIS MUCH and THESE MANY glimpses astounds and amazes me. Cameras/video/photography are so very much not allowed I am shocked at the amount of footage we have the ability to experience!

I admire that when you speak of your relatives, even with having gone through some tough times, you have no bitterness in your voice or heart, only love, compassion, and gentleness. The Father's love coming out of you is apparent, unconditional love! We all pray that the blessed assurance you speak of will be known by all our family members. Thank you for sharing. A wonderful glimpse into the "Old world Amish" lifestyle done with great dignity to the members. Oh, do I remember well the funerals as a little girl. As I was watching the video on the way to the burial site, I could smell the wool blanket and feel the itchiness I felt like a little 4-year-old girl. My great grandmother would tell me to keep my face in the blanket, it was always a snowstorm for a winter funeral, and little girls want to SEE so keeping my head and face in that wool blanket was really hard to do. My great grandmother did not permit power in the home, running water, and I remember learning to use the washboard to do laundry, too. Although those years were hard, I am so grateful I had that experience and learned from my wonderful great-grandmother. Thank you, Priscilla, for sharing this video and experience. Happy New Year to you and your whole family.
