There isn't a rule in my school against bullying. Because of which kids don't think about bullying and therefore don't bully people. It's like asking a toddler to not eat that cookie and now toddler is thinking about eating that cookie. But if I don't mention anything about the cookie to the toddler then the toddler won't think about the cookie and therefore not eat it. But I still empathize with you guys because I have been bullied in my previous school and no one cared about it.

I can't remember if it was freshman or sophomore year, but my history teacher told my mom I raised my hand "too much" and "hogged the conversation". Up until then I was pretty much the only one who bothered raising my hand at all, but after that I just stopped trying to answer questions in her class entirely. And no, me going mute in that room didn't make anyone else raise their hands more often, nor did any other teacher ever raise that "concern".

I almost got suspended because I wouldn't let a girl cut in front of me in third grade. I have neurodivergence (not going to specify) and I wouldn't let her go in front of Mr. She started pushing and it got into a full pushing match. She claims I bit her after turning away and biting herself. I saw her do it. But no one believes me because I'm the weird girl in class and we had a brand new first year teaching teacher. She only admitted it after a kid who'd gotten in trouble and was in the hall who saw her came clean. He'd originally told them I did it because I'd gotten him in trouble and that's why he was in the hall, but he told the truth and she got kicked off student counsel because I refused to let her lie. I even bit my own arm trying to show them see the teeth don't match, I had just lost a tooth and the space wasn't missing. I still remember sitting in the office with everyone pressuring me to admit I bit her when I knew I hadn't.

I was sent to crazy Baptist skool growing up, and we were berated by our 7th grade English teacher after one of our fellow students (not my grade) died in a freak accident. Our teacher blamed us for the death, as our faith in God wasn’t “strong enough” and God punished us for it through the child’s death. Dude, that entire classroom had nothing to do with it, our faith wouldn’t have changed the freak circumstances, the child would still be dead, and any possible faith I might have had in the future is permanently (and thankfully) dead after experiencing such a traumatic event. Anyone who believes crap like this shouldn’t be allowed near children; inflicting guilt of someone’s death on a classroom is abuse of power, position, and of children.

I got detention once for sticking up for my friend against a well-known school bully (that teachers and students knew alike) as a young teen. Me and my friend were essentially nerds with near exemplary behaviour records and decent academic records. I used to get bullied, not the worst but not the best (I had older siblings who were well-known and popular, so it never got physical, or too out of hand compared to others), but one day I saw my friend who was nerdier than me say no to the bully when he asked her for something. She never did things like that, and he was just going at her, something in me snapped silently and I intervened (he was a tall guy and I was a small girl at the time). Our dumb f*ck for a head of year, who was teaching the class and watching the whole thing then gives ME a detention. I was livid and made that clear, but to no avail. I did that detention knowing I was in the right, but that my secondary school was just mega sh!t.

There were three things that I got punished/in trouble for that really pissed me off in school 1 Writing with my left hand in 2nd grade. My teacher insisted that I write with my right hand because quote "It's impossible to write in cursive with your left hand" At the time my wrist was broken and I thought the cast was the reason (I worked around that either way by just holding the pencil differently) but when the cast was off he still tried to correct it. I became ambidextrous as a result and just to mess with him would switch which hand I wrote with every few sentences around the end of the year. Sidenote, forcing a leftie to write with their right hand in their early years of learning to read and write can lead to learning, speech and other such developmental and mental issues so yeah. 2 Correcting my 9th and 10th grade English Teacher at a military school about a password for a state exam (same teacher both years). I didn't personally get in trouble, but me telling her the password on the board wasn't working she flew into a fit that the kids on the second floor across the school could hear. She was yelling and screaming, slamming her hands down on the chromebook keyboards, throwing shit and going ballistic about how we're all disrespectful, stupid and ungrateful and that she's the teacher and we should listen to her. That caused me to have a small panic attack because I was (and still am) going to therapy to recover after being stuck in a home where domestic violence was frequent. As a result of this, my friend started to record the freakout on an audio recording app. 3 The same teacher I just mentioned tried to reprimand and restrict me from using my inhaler (which I had permission to use anywhere as needed due to my severe asthma) during a minor asthma attack. This was around when covid restrictions were just being lifted, and they were still administering covid tests every other week so I didn't want to start coughing and wheezing in the middle of class out loud. The English teacher told me to put the inhaler away or she'd take it and said I wasn't allowed to use it in her classroom, and so I just stood up out of my seat and went across the hallway to where my flight (homeroom) teacher was and used my inhaler in her classroom. She was fired for unrelated reasons but yeah.

So here's a story of how I went to the principal's office for "going against the rules" even though I was perfectly following them. In the school diary there are 12 pages dedicated to for what not to do. And there are a lot of loopholes. There are fruit and water breaks in my school, I brought fruit juice for both. You aren't allowed to bring electronic devices to school, nothing about bringing electronic components to school and assembling them to make a device. My physics teacher found the loophole funny. The third one got me in trouble. It was stated in the diary that you aren't allowed to eat during class hours. There are three instances where there are no class hours going on, the designated breaks, the school programs and, my target, the terminal exams. So I just brought a Thermos with coffee in it and a small cup to the exam. The examiners didn't stop me as it wasn't against any of the 20 exam rules. So there is a very serious atmosphere in an exam hall and there's this dude who's casually drinking his coffee. Enter the principal to the exam. We greet him as normal and just when he's about to leave he sees a dude drinking his coffee... that dude is me. For the next 1 hour I had to write the exam in the staff room and the teachers were scrolling through whatsapp at full volume, sharing their recipes, laughing at my reason for being in the staff room and to make it worse ORDERING COFFEE. The conversation in the principal's office went something like this:- Him: "Why did you drink coffee in the exam are you mad?!" Me: "No sir." Him: "Then why did you bring it? We don't know what is there inside of the children's bottles and why were you drinking it openly IN AN EXAM?" Me: "Because it is stated in the diary tha-" Him: "THAT WHAT? DRINKING BEVERAGES IS ALLOWED IN EXAMS?" Me: "Not exactly but it's stated that we aren't allowed to do that in class hours." Him: "AND?" Me: "There were no classes going on during the exam." "..." Me: **smiles kindly** Him: **smiles back** Him: "You're lucky that I'm in a good mood and that this is your first time doing things like this so I will not call your parents or suspend you. But never do anything like again. Got it?" Me: "Yes sir." I was the first student to come out of the principals office without getting their parents called nor getting suspended nor with a chocolate I just barely passed the exam :p

TLDR: Teacher makes me take a extra test during recess, then can't admit she was in the wrong. In 5th grade reading class, the teacher was splitting up the kids into groups to read this book called Fire Girl. I love to read, so when I got handed the book, I started reading. By the time that the rest of my group got to chapter 3 and was marking in their journals where they had left off, I had finished the book. One of the girls in my group tattled to the teacher that I had finished the book. The teacher came over to me and basically said that I was lying and that there was no way I had finished the book. When I said yes I did finish the book, she made me stay in for recess and take an AR test on the book with her not letting me see the screen and just asking the questions. After I had finished, she clicked the submit button and stared at the screen for a few seconds. I asked her what I made on the quiz, and she moved the mouse and clicked on something. She then said that she clicked off the page and didn't know what I got. By this time our 25 minute recess was over and she told me to go join my classmates and get lunch. She didn't to me for the rest of the year unless she absolutely had too. I just ignored what she said for the rest of the year and just read. Made an A in the class.

I was like 7 years old at the time, and one of the neighbors down the street (who was around 15 and had serious mental issues) held me down and stabbed me with a sharpened pencil, right in the chest. My older sister (who was about the same age as the other guy) tried to pry him off of me as he was stabbing me, and eventually punched him in the face and kicked him off. He didn't get in trouble at all, but she was permanently banned from riding the school bus and had to go to detention for the entire rest of the year. I got a week's worth of detentions for "fighting" on the bus. Which just about sums up how fair that school was regarding me, since I was constantly getting bullied and abused, never once instigated _anything,_ but was always getting detentions for fighting, despite the fact that I was always the victim and was often covered in my own blood due to other kids assaulting me. For instance, I yelled out in class in pain because a kid sitting behind me kept using a rubber band to fire bent paperclips at me, stabbing me in the back, neck, and head with the sharp ends. My back is covered in blood from getting stabbed pretty deep by fast-flying pieces of metal, and I'm the one getting detention for disrupting class by yelling.

ive gotten more comfortable talking about this, but heres something from the last month of my senior year, which by comparison has the same level of Stupid Teacher as Story #9. ---- I was diagnosed with AuDHD around my junior year, which did provide clarity to why i had no friends in high school and why i figured high school was wasted on me. All i really liked doing was art, ranging from paper sculpture, flash animation and drawing/painting. somewhere in the 1st-2nd week, i had gotten to the last class of the day, its 35min long and i had made a pair of working paper headphones. they looked simple and a little janky, but they did play audio and i showed this to the teacher right after the bell rang and she closed the door. At first she was impressed, but then got angry when she saw the speakers, and i had told her up front that they worked. She pulls a Karen Move about a decade before that becomes a social term and send me to the prinicpals office to be punished with no reason given. I am confused and speechless at what just happened. The vice prinicpal says its cool and send me back about 5 minutes before the last bell rings. I turn the hallway corner and see the teacher from across the hall trying to sneak a look into my classroom without getting caught, i ask her whats going on, she tells me everyone has been laughing since the start of the period, making out comments like "he's going to kill us" and "serial killer". This hit me hard mentally and emotionally, on top of still being completely confused why my teacher pulled a karen move in the first place. I told the other teacher that i was going to go home, she didnt stop me and tried to apologize, the doors to the cafeteria parking lot were unlocked so i just walked out with no one stopping me, walked 2 miles to my house, got into bed and slept. To this day i remember nothing but that 35 minute span of time when trying to understand wtf happened, but the lack of mental health resources + the social bs of "going to therapy means you are a psychotic monster" wasnt going to shrink in size until well after 2015, meant that the only rational option i could think of was repressing that memory. That crap felt like a painful false accusation giving me both a fear of becoming a murderer and intrusive cognitive distortions that grew over a decade until i confronted all this in 2021 to regain most of my sanity and not be something i never wanted to be. Im doing much better after 2-3 years of processing it, going to a therapist and taking in any relevant mental health research, but a small part of me still wants to find out why that bitch reacted as such, sparking a lot of mental stress i clearly never needed or consented to.

This was 3rd grade, I finished a test early so I went to use the bathroom. As I walk in I see 3 younger kids flooding a stall, I ignore em and head to the stall next to them and do my business. After I wash my hands and leave, the janitor heads inside to see what they were doing. They see me leaving the bathroom and they assume I flooded the toilet and ran. They call my mom and I get suspended for 4 days after a long lecture from the principal. The kids never got caught too.

In English class, first year of highschool, we had the common rule of forgetting your homework 3 times -> Detention. I was a generally silent student and my teachers have confirmed they appreciated me always trying hard yet somehow, that english sheep still felt the need to fuck me over Somewhere halfway the year, I didn't make my homework for the first time. She wrote down my name, I apologized and it was all fine A week later, I was sick. I called in sick, on time and everything. Apparently, precisely THAT week, she decided to hand out exercise sheets. No one told me anything, so I didn't know I had to make them- and I didn't have the exercises to begin with. We get back to English, she checks for sheets, I say I never got the sheet, she's like 'so you didn't make them?' and writes down my name. She then proceeds to check the homework that HAS ALREADY BEEN CHECKED and writes down my name a THIRD time for 'not making it' So I effectively got detention for really forgetting my homework once. It was not up for discussion. My day of the detention: this bitch called in sick, and apparently the rule of that school was 'if you don't attend to your detention, no matter WHAT the reason is, it doubles'. (Thanks to my year coördinator, I could sit put my detention in a general classroom so that was nice though). TLDR: I almost received DOUBLE the punishment for a THIRD of the amount of homework needed to be forgotten to even go to detention once.

The DUMBEST thing i got punished for in school was when I was being bullied, this girl really hated me, I was and still am autistic and was probably annoying to everyone, I must have said something which made her want to fight me, she kicked me in the leg and it really hurt. A few of the older kids saw this, and told teachers, but the teachers were under the impression that I was the one who started the fight, as in they thought I hit first. I got detention, and this girl got away with it. I met the girl years later in college and she was sorry for what happened and she's pretty chill now. But I still think its dumb that I got detention for that.

So I was very confused when I got back to my psychologically abusive and highly vindictive special ed teacher, and she immediately and aggressively demanded I explain why I wasn’t in French class. …I don’t miss her. In fact, part of me hopes that every time she goes on a trip somewhere, the weather is the opposite of what she wants it to be, and it doesn’t stop until she goes home.

And kept going at it, even with me crying my eyes out due to previous bad experiences. No one in that god awful class did anything, my mother didn't either, no one did. I remember being really fond of that teacher, but now I just see it was just straight up an abusive relationship. Many teachers were abusive in that hell hole and no one did sh!t. I was, no joke, 7-8 years old. Also, throwing up six times in a 30 minute interval. The b of a higher up of the school didn't believe me, even with WITNESSES, THAT SHE DIDN'T LET ME BRING. Not just me...the entire class. I was in a general studies English class in college. The instructor, who was still working on her PhD, gave us a whole assignment to do a revision on our first paper...but she emphasized that she didn't want a "rewrite". She considered almost anything any of us had ever done for a re-draft or final draft to constitute a rewrite, including almost every thing every student in the class turned in for the assignment. She considered them all poor work, and so she wanted us all to redo it and spent almost an entire lecture "explaining" what she wanted in a revision. Except all of it was vacuous, metaphorical, and made no sense to anyone in the class. Even when we tried to give her feedback and examples of what she wanted, all she did was keep saying everything we thought she was saying was wrong and would explain it again just as vaguely and incoherently as before. By the end of the class, none of us knew what the heck she wanted but we tried again anyway. The next period, she was mad at the entire class for again not giving her whatever she wanted. She basically told us all that, since she had "clearly" explained what she wanted in the previous lecture, we were obviously all failing on purpose just to irritate her and so we would all get bad grades.

I got in school suspension for reading a book in the library during high school. Our whole class was in the library to give a book report on a book of our choosing. After I finished giving my presentation the librarian saw me reading my book I brought from home. She tried to grab it out of my hands, no warning or reason given. My grip proved to be stronger and like any rational person I refused to unhand my property when someone tries to take it without reason. I was told to go to the office and left without complaint. After waiting the librarian had enough time to explain her side of what happened before I was asked to see the principal next. When asked if I knew why I was in sent to see him I replied "Because I was reading in the library." He said "No you are here for Insubordination". Nothing I Said after that mattered. Reasoning that listening to the other students would have no effect on any grades. Protesting my reading did not disrupt the students or teachers unless they disrupted the class to make a scene about my reading quietly to myself. Telling the principal insubordination is just an umbrella term that excuses disciplining any student for any reason without justification or reason needed, and is a unfair misuse of authority. Keep in mind my arguments were not as well thought out during the time, I do not speak well without prep time and am not a fast thinker. Point is American school systems are totalitarian in how they handle rules, policies, and discipline. Ironic considering they preach American values about freedom and justice for all.

For story 4, sometimes in Elementary school a pair of teachers would swap classes for certain subjects. Primarily because the subject one swapped to us to teach was either better at teaching it or enjoyed teaching that subject more than our primary teacher. I grew up neurodivergent, but even though I was, I was always treated like a neurotypical child (even though I wasn't in the slightest). I remember I was sent to the principal's office quite a bit In my first years of school and 9 times out of 10 I never really knew why, but it was always chill for some reason probably either because the principal knew that how I acted wasn't something I could really control, or that most of the time, I was sent to his office for the stupidest reason, or both (to this day, I still make a joke here and there about how going to the principal's office was part of the school day for me). One particular instance is when we had a substitute teacher in kinder garden and she was reading us a book. She gets to a part in the book in which it asks what animal made a certain sound and In my mind I was like "I know this, I'm smart! I'm gonna say the answer and show everyone just how smart I am!" so without hesitation, I just blurt out "Chicken!" and the mf just pans over to me and glares as if I just cursed or something. I understand now that It was rude of me to interrupt, but at the same time, I was a kid.

My second grade teacher yelled at me, then gave me detention because I forgot my agenda at home. (the agenda was basically a communication book for parents/teachers that was brought to school/home daily). The same teacher also yelled at me for both misspelling a word in an assignment, and then forgetting my snack in my backpack (we were supposed to bring our snacks into the classroom prior to class starting). I really don’t know how anyone could expect a 7 year old to be “perfect”. I switched schools a few months later since we had moved cities. I had forgotten my agenda one day again. I was brought to tears, terrified that I’d get yelled at or given a detention. Thankfully this new teacher was much more understanding and caring towards us.

I finished it quickly because English was always my best subject and started reading a book like I usually did when I finished early. Don’t remember exactly what he was doing, but he was making it hard for me to do my work. Apparently disrupting class is totally okay but rolling my eyes at someone who deserved it isn’t?? Yeah it’s totally inconsequential but it still bugs me that the teachers at my school picked favourites based on the students’ family members

While a teacher was talking, my brain was in a sort of ADHD mode where I lost all self awareness of who was speaking at the moment. I look at phone and realize there's less than 10 minutes in class while we were in the middle of a lesson. My mouth spoke before my mind and I accidentally interrupted the teacher by stating how much time was left. Beforehand I've never done anything like this, so this was the only time this happened with the specific teacher. I promptly apologized but it was too late. The teacher gave me a sort of death stare like I was a criminal who murdered one of their close family members, and punished me by giving me detention and assigned me a few pages of homework in the same day while everyone else got out free. To add matters worse, they assigned the homework to me to be due the very next day. I was pretty rubbish towards the lesson we were learning that day, so I really had to think my darn hardest to figure it out. It had to do with writing poems and the meaning for towards what the poems meant and had to do with my own reasonings for why I wrote said specific poems. It was a nightmare ... I got a "C" altogether.

Once in 4th grade we were playing this game called Pescador (Fisherman, it only existed at my school) at recess, It starts off with a race and whoever is last is the fisherman, then the fisherman has to stay at the middle of the court, then they yelled Fisherman, and everyone has to get to the other side without being touched by the intended fisherman, and whoever is touched becomes another fisherman until everyone is tagged, and I was one of the last ones to get to the end, but I wasn't last by like a second or so, there was this sort of annoying kid who accused me of being last and kept harshly pushing me out of the small red area you had to get to, I started fighting back and then my cousin helped me, then the kid threw himself to the ground and pretended he was in pain and me and my cousin got scolded, we had to return to class early for this. And later in the year the same kid got my cousin sent to the principal's office because they were doing a group activity and my cousin went to get his stuff, then the kid stole his seat, and my cousing obviously got angry and started wiggling the chair, and since the table and chair were stuck together it fell and the kid started crying loudly, he explained everything and me and all of his friends present defended him, and us, his friends that defended him got in trouble for "fighting with the teacher". So glad I switched after summer break. Crying at a teacher’s memorial. When I was ten, a favoured teacher passed away. She was always kind to me and cared about my success in subjects I was struggling with. Another teacher I had for grades two and three, a nasty old hag who should have retired a long time ago and who did not like me, got offended at my grief, which was quiet crying, nothing obnoxious. She proceeded to glare at me and started loudly and dramatically shushing me; people stared and I was super embarrassed. I really hope that old hag has no one crying for her when she goes, it would be poetic justice considering her offence at the show of grief when someone else died.

When I was in first grade, we were cleaning up and I found a paper clip with the pointy part bent. I was holding the paper clip with the pointy part facing forward, and I was walking near a group of friends. The teacher screamed at me and was furious about that. No one was hurt or scared, so I was confused about why I was in trouble. That day, we had an event where we practiced a song and had a concert in the school. I got sent to the principal's office because I was being "Dangerous" and "Threatening". The teacher was in the room with me and the principal seemed to understand that it was a bit ridiculous. I still am confused about why I got in trouble... SOOOOO, then about a month later during math, I was playing around with a pencil thinking about the answer to a question, and accidentally pressed the pencil too hard. The bully and the teacher saw it since they were sitting next to me. They both thought I did it on purpose. The teacher was shouting at me and asked the bully to throw the pencil away. Why can't you just sharpen the other side and make 2 pencils? The bully kept going around the room, holding the pencil and announcing " (My name) Broke this pencil!". I was both embarrassed and worried. The bully went everywhere. Even the little passageway behind the room. The teacher (Who always gets you in trouble for snitching) clearly saw the bully announcing but completely ignored it. Why does the bully get to do it if we can't? Aaaaand of course, I get sent to the principal's office again. It wasn't bad in the office, because the principal seemed to understand me. But when I got back to class, the teacher was still furious, and since she wasn't having the best day, she decided to send an email to my parents. Yes, an EMAIL for breaking one pencil accidentally. A few years later in sixth grade, my friend intentionally breaks a ruler and pencil. The teacher sees it but all she said was "Please do not do that, that is very unpleasant" and that's it. At that time, I thought it was a normal thing to get in trouble by breaking a pencil or playing with a paper clip, but thinking back to it, it was absolutely ridiculous. Sorry for the long comment.

a kid in my class kept turning around and making noises at me. I got two detentions for not stopping him and he walked off Scot-free. Every teacher I had previously told me to ignore students like that, this teacher wanted me to hit the kid for acting up. Yup! I only went to one of the detentions. If you can give them to me at once for the same 'crime' then I can serve them at the same time. Sat somewhere else after that.

Pencil held wrong: Deduct points for that isn't allowed as far as I know. A teacher can't be so petty and subjective.

I got detention for opening a window to let a wasp out of the classroom, and shutting the window after it flew outside. The teacher claimed I was “disrupting class”, so I got a detention. I showed the detention slip to the principal and explained it was unjust, I had two classmates vouch for me, so he nullified my detention. My friends and I egged her house and her car three weeks later (we knew where she lived), she never knew it was us.

I was getting beat up at school and I didn't fight back because the person beating me up was a girl and I knew that if I even touched her I would get suspended. There were no teachers around so I screamed for help and got suspended for screaming because my scream "disrupted the learning environment" the girl , who was a huge teachers pet, got in no trouble at all. And it's not like there was any"learning environment " in the first place, we were at recess

This is unfortunately common. ZT policies sometimes force both kids to be punished, but generally bullies don't actually face significant consequences. My source? I'm a parent of several children, and a former public school student. It's highly likely that I'm biased.

I got detention for speaking Russian. I was conversing with a friend about our HORRIBLE book report book. Now any Russian speaker knows that the word for book sounds like the N-word. A black student overheard us and reported us to our teacher. We went to the principal's office and explained we were just speaking Russian. The principal asked why we were speaking Russian in the first place. Last time I checked, in Canada, you can speak any goddamn language you want. But here is the kicker: We have multiple Arabic speaking students, and whenever they spoke Arabic no one batted an eye, but me speaking Russian is problematic. Double standards much?
