How about getting stuck in college? "Pam" graduated in 1943 and when she came to our house for dinner in 1990s she was giggling about rushing from her sorority across campus and almost missing a Student Government Board meeting. She wasn't drunk or anything. It was just mystifying and sad.

"Teachers who suck up to the athletes and the other popular kids and ignore the less popular kids." I had a specific teacher in mind for that one. He went to our school when he was a kid himself. Now he's the principal of that school. So, yeah, more that what was said here. Nothing screams "I peaked in high school" like becoming the goddamn principal.

I had a friend who was a star pitcher on the baseball team. His fastball made people look like idiots. Not long ago, I saw him walking out of a bar, and he decided to join me for a few drinks, and the only thing he talked about were those days on the baseball team.

I peaked in high school only because I was deeply abused once I hit college and my stepparent went insane wanting to eliminate me from the family-as in physically remove me from the land of the living. I now struggle with many mental and physical health issues, and i’ve never been as productive nor healthy as I did back then. Most days I cry out for the release of death as my body tries to hurt me from the inside…but I’m married and it would be unfair to leave my spouse alone if I suddenly left this world.

I remember encountering the school bully about ten years after graduating (me graduating, him dropping out), unfortunately, he recognized me as someone he beat up once. I flippantly said something to the effect of "So?", and he arrogantly replied, "so I'll do it again." I squared off against him and said "Whatever tubby" since he had gotten pretty overweight which resulted in him taking a swing at me. What the idiot did realize was that I had spent the previous ten years studying martial arts and serving in the military. I went on to absolutely destroy him and casually walked away. He definitely peaked in high school and still considered himself the school bully whom everyone should fear.

Honestly, I feel kind of bad for the people in these descriptions. I don't mean that in a snarky "Look how stupid they are" kind of way, I just mean a kind of genuine sorrow for them. It's fine to feel pride in something that we have done or accomplished at some point in life. Generally, those accomplishments should grow and grow throughout life. If someone hasn't achieved anything worth being proud of besides, say, being a cheerleader or whatever, I feel a kind of sadness for them, because it means that they are not proud with anything they have done in life since that point. That's a sad thing. I also think that some of those people who make a point of trying to relive past memories by going to football games, or hanging out at the bar when everyone is back for the holidays, sound to have a kind of desperate loneliness to them. A kind of way of saying, "I don't know how to relate to people outside of (activity). Please talk to me about it." I sounds like an inability, or a fear of talking about other things. I don't want to be mad or annoyed at them for feeling that way. I just feel bad for them. I'm sure some of these people are jerks, or terrible, or whatever. I think that at least some of them, though, deserve sorrow. I think that showing mercy towards people who might desperately need some mercy is a good thing, and that trying to recontextualize their actions by seeing it not as a "we're still in high school" but rather a "Please remember me _from_ high school" kind of way might humanize some of the actions that they take. I think trying to treat them well, even if they treated us poorly is a good thing, and something we should strive for. Life is a hard and rough thing. It's not good to sneer at people who haven't been able to move past that point in their lives.

I definitely dated someone who peaked in high school. She never left our tiny home town and would always talk about how she got away with everything by flirting with male teachers and even bragged about making a substitute cry. Any time we got into a fight she’d constantly talk about how she could’ve had any guy of the popular guys in school and regularly name dropped them yet she only dated people she felt were beneath her, myself included. She also got pregnant with one of my fellow “losers” when she was a freshman and made her Mom take care of the baby so she could “focus on school” which was code for partying. I finally left her after we had a pregnancy scare and she ended up marrying some dude who got sent to prison for beating up his ex with a bar stool. Last time I checked she had three kids with three different men and tried bullying my niece who’s on the softball team with her daughter but ran as soon as she saw me and my ex sister in law walking towards her!

Happen to me by simple coincidence. Basically i was the: "i wanna finish this crap already kid", still i had some level of respect for my teacher , in a class full of almost snoby semi-well off teens who were in the door step of adulthood, except for one who was already an adult by that point (20 y/o), only because he miss to much after he was blind when he was a toddler, probably the only guy i could considerate someone i can get a decent conversation and he tried his best. Honestly, if someone inspired me was him. He applied more than me, but that still annoys me that everyone considers me smart or a genius for sometimes ace test and been the most high grade of all, only because i understand all easily. I end up as the best of the class, best score for that year and all the years i have been there, and even manage to raise the average grade in that school, and had to hold flag of my country in ceremonies only give to the top of the last year ... only because i try do all quickly and pass to had more time for play with my friends outside school. Even in that same awards ceremony, the "best classmate award", who was voted by the entire class except, you guess it, me and my blind classmate who abstent for vote. It was elected a snobby guy, one of those who probably peak of high school was working on his dad company and owns a car at 17, considerate a feat in my country giving the shitier economy we had and still have to this day. But an event that day change it. That same day during the ceremony, in the police academy we were invited to make the last year ceremony and pass of flag, a girl collapsed beside me, so in an instinct, i broke protocol, give the flag to a girl beside me and took the girl since the only people around were at 50m away from there since she collapse in a way i thought she hits her head, so i took her carefully and start to lift her by her arm around my shoulder to bring it to a shade nearby quickly before anyone could arrive , before scream for a bottle of water since she was clearly collapse from heat stroke. I almost got chew out for break protocol, but suddenly i my other preceptor was chewing the other one for chew me for break protocol in what seems to be something selfless, since i only react as an instinct because i almost suffer a collapse in the same way before. Then i heard loud claps from all the people as i comes back to form again. Fast forward after that ceremony, and the 3 awards i receive, the 4th was coming to "best classmate", but before something happen, i heard some wispers from the teachers and them looking at the principal as she took the mic to announce it. Before the snoby dude stand up, she .... calls me instead to received it. I was confuse, everyone were confused and my classmates were confuse as well. Turns out the principal seems to thought it will be great if i was the one with that award after what happen back then a hour ago, or at least for save face, because i do believe give that award to someone who was a snoby rich kid would probably tanished the school reputation too. That was a little peak of high school, but then university bring my feets down to earth that same year and shows me high school is just nothing compares with that. I never finish my master and decide to study something else who brings me less depression.

@@simplejd7150 It was probably 5 years of my life condensed into that story, and then spend 6 years into that master with a lot of problems, depression, monetary problems and out of job too. But the once i got a job i decide to study something else and save for my equipment in case something else happen. Then half 2017 i quit my job and became full time graphic designer and illustrator since that was one of the things it bring me joy to this day to do.

I still talk about my high college placement test score because 1) I took it in my 30's because I didn't go to college before then. 2) Because I want to make a point about learning. I was functionally illiterate until 11th grade. It was a dedication to writing every single day for sometimes six hours straight handwritten pages. And then using library computer to proof read whenever I could. I use it not because I peaked in highschool, but because I want others to know the #1 person responsible for learning is you!

i personally dropped out of high school because it just felt so boring, i never liked the stuff they taught, and the social status stuff like this just always seemed stupid and irritating to me (and the amount of times i've just sighed and cringed during this video reminds me yet again of that fact). since then i've taught myself a lot of stuff on my own, namely regarding tech, and am looking into becoming a bartender because it seems really interesting to me, just getting to talk to people, and maybe get some cool life stories and such, all while making good drinks, even if a lot of them won't be complex. everyone's got their own path, but people like this i just do not get.
