I think he was poisoned by his upringing and the amount of stock people put in him. I don't necessarily think Amos is a bad guy or that he actually did anything wildly bad, yeah even the CP stuff is mild compared to other cases, he could have benefited from stronger parental figures and less attention/praise /shock for whatever bullshit he was up to. He strikes me as a crafty and resourceful individual who had a cushioned and boring life with no struggles to temper his attitude, he rebelled against his own culture and religion only to become a stereotype of the other end of the extreme.

Update; Shortly after this video went out, Yee was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Some of his sentence was backdated due to time served. He should be out in 2026. He'll likely be deported and, as Tom says, may end up serving time for dodging national service. The guy is only 24 and he's already totally screwed up his own life. It's weird how some people in the comments defend him and blame everything on his upbringing or Singapore. This guy made his own choices. Blaming his actions on getting 'too much support as a child' is a terrible excuse. He wasted his potential and is likely to be in prison for most of his 20s.

@midouban628
@midouban628 2 жыл бұрын
Also just because kids can say "yes" and "no" doesn't mean "consent". Consent in this context only occurs when a person voluntarily agrees to the proposal or desires of another WHILE fully understanding the risks and benefits. This is why attorneys and medical staff before getting your consent signature are required by law to ask do you fully understand everything that was being said/explained; and do you have any questions/concerns.

I was fully convinced that I was going to find, catch, and become friends with my very own Gengar. I was one dumb kid, but I am glad that my imagination let me have fun and believe in the magic for a while too, it was very fun. @RaiunHana
@RaiunHana 7 ай бұрын
As a fellow Singaporean myself, I grew up feeling pretty free actually. It was only around the time when I started learning about our history that I realized that there are laws regarding hate speech towards race and religion (and it is through learning our history that I know why these laws are important for us). Human psychology is weird. For some reason, people seem to place a disproportionately huge amount of importance on race and religion and when people get heated up about these issues, the irrational hatred stirred up in these groups are like no other. Seeing this type of crazy hate, I do understand how things like racial riots and maybe even wars can be started, thus why such laws are needed in many countries. "Oppressive", "dictatorial" are terms that are unfairly used on us and we have been conditioned to accept these terms being used to describe us. Many countries perceived to be free such as Canada have the same laws regarding speech but don't get the same rep as us. Why? Because they're western countries and not asian ones? That said, we may not have true free speech but I've never felt as if I wasn't free enough to say whatever I want to say and also we are so much more free in ways that other countries are not (like the freedom of going out alone whenever we want without fear - for example, think of a petite woman at 2am taking a solo walk in a quiet park / around quiet parts of towns - that can't be done in many countries but I've done this type of stuff for years).

@@BlackNoiseCat Kanye isn't a dissident. He's not being jailed for what he says. He says a lot of things that are unappealing for others. But at the end of the day he has no legal consequence. In order for free speech to work there does need to a be a societal standard of what is ok to say and there needs to be freedom of association tied to it. Kanye is choosing to say things that go against society's standards of what is acceptable so many are cutting ties with him. That's free speech at it's finest. He's no dissident.

As a Singaporean, I remember everyone around me laughing when Amos was granted asylum. Most of us were glad that he wasn’t our problem anymore, and that the US would eventually see what we saw in him - not a free-speech activist, but an attention seeking narcissist. I may not agree with the punishments dished out to him, and I personally feel that SG is rather dated on their stance on free speech, but Amos was definitely not deserving of the support or praise he was given. Absolute waste of an opportunity many would’ve killed for.

Also, I saw that it wasn’t covered in this video but the first few weeks of him going to the US, he made a lengthy FB post accounting his entire experience about losing his V card in full detail. What a deranged weird guy.

While Amos Yee was a narcissist, arresting him for it in the first place only encouraged that behavior AND was screwed up morally. Laughing at something like this is gross when people can be arrested for what amounts to being an edgy brat.

This video is a great document of how internet and premature fame can push some people to believe they can do and say anything, and even badly hurt people around them, without facing consequences. That's very alarming, and very sad. Amos got what he deserved, but what freaks me out the most is that I genuinely believe he thought he's always been right. Nacissistic disorder can be dangerous if left uncontrolled. By the way, loved the Wish Linkin Park cover you used! Got it at first glance, it's nice to see some LP love!
