Amtrak Train 20 Washington Power Change

Amtrak Northbound Crescent Train 20 swaps out P42DCs #125 & #116 for ACS-86 #628 at Washington DC's Union Station. #125 and #116 are being towed to Ivy City for servicing by Phase IV Heritage P42 #164 as this will likely save on crews. Video includes #628 pulling out from the ready line of electric locomotives on Union Station track #27.
Briefly visible are MARC MP36PH-3C's #32 and 33 (coupled together) and #26 (by itself) making light moves past K TOWER.

I used to watch these every time but I'm hesitant to do it anymore because the last time I did, I almost missed my way back onto the train. They were closing up the doors before they had even started the process. Haven't been through DC since because this was relatively recent but I'm hoping that wasn't a permanent change. I've always loved watching the locomotives change.

I tend to go back as soon as the engine couples since it still takes a few minutes to attach the HEP cables. I've never been at risk of being left behind.

3 Ge Genesis p42 diesel locomotives were swapped for a single siemens ACS-64 electric locomotive in Washington DC.

The first P42 came off another train and towed the other two back to icy city.

@@PositionLight I always wonder why in Albany Rennseler, the dual mode P32acd electric diesel locomotives where swapped to a full p42 diesel locomotive when they already had diesel to go elsewhere, this is the case with Lake Shore Limited, Maple Leaf, and Adirondack.

@@hermanchan2794 They only have 17 dual modes for the NYC service and they are under powered, so they are typically swapped out.

@@PositionLight on wikipedia they sometimes kept the dual mode P32acd locomotives for the remainder of the entire route. They say New York City does not allow diesel locomotives unless they are dual mode with electricity. The dual mode locomotives are the exceptions for diesel locomotives coming into the tunnels in New York City.
