@@ZelphOntheShelfit absolutely is. I had a cousin with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (X Linked Genetic condition with no cure). He died at 11…she was around 9 or 10 at the time, and clearly very ill-not many months from his death bed- and in a wheel chair…some man tried to “heal him” and encouraged his mother to help him “get up and walk and shed his wheel chair” right then and there-in the middle of a Krogers in a Mississippi. Apparently my cousin got upset…he knew he wouldn’t likely live very long (they never lied to him about his illness. He had an uncle who died of it too. He knew). How they explained what that guy did and said to a sick, confused child with a very limited life span, who was raised to “trust in god and believe in miracles”…I don’t know exactly, but he was pretty upset for some time (at a time he should have had peace and love and kindness around him …but instead experienced something of an existential “why” crisis the experience brought on…mostly ‘why can’t I get a miracle they talk about in church’). His mother was pretty religious and “always welcomed prayers” and even she was upset and broke into tears and blessed the guy out. The manager kicked the guy out and called his pastor who blessed him out too…small town in the South. (He wasn’t mentally ill…that they were aware of…but I have a hard time believing anyone who would do that isn’t pretty ‘off’ themselves. Either way, he was still culpable for his actions…if he wasn’t sick, and did still did that, and there is a hell…I hope that guy is there).

I wouldn't call my self a clown fetishist per se, I just respect the hell out of clowns. They boldly, often wordlessly, embody anti-traditionalist, pro-chaos perspectives, reminding us of our own socially-constructed identities and gently drawing our attention to the futility and inhumanity of modern culture. Mad props!

My inner child demands to know how them “religion is my identity” folks really feel. My outer adult is content with not knowing. The angel on my shoulder strokes my hair and tells me it’s all going to work out just fine. The rooster on my other shoulder was traumatized by a life of cock fights and just screams and makes threatening gestures.

I've had the claymation vid show up repeatedly in my feed, so I can't speak to the shadowbanning, but... Just the thumbnail tells me that it is an incredibly high-effort video, and I want to devote high-effort viewing to it, and haven't had time yet. I wouldn't feel right having it on in the background if I can't watch. It's on my list for this weekend. Promise.

Sooo… this whole we have to break up because you might have AIDS is totally my past. I was a convert to the LDS church and had to admit to my (now ex) husband-to-be that I wasn’t a virgin. The shame! The immediate you could have AIDS (it was the 90s)He had to pray to get “approval” from God to marry my dirty sinful self. And I a TBM didn’t see that as a red flag and still married him. I then spent 20 years being told he knew better than me in almost every decision because he grew up in the church, went on a mission, was basically just more pure, etc etc. took way too long to realize how messed up the whole thing was

This is embarrassing but when I was a teenager, up to about 15 when I started deconstructing my faith, I thought most people were virgins until marriage. Even if they were older and unmarried. Now I would be uncomfortable with the idea of dating an adult virgin because I have not met many who were mature in terms of their romantic relationships. I would not be comfortable being someone’s first.

Also, why do Christian’s who think women shouldn’t work, assume everyone is comfortable asking someone else to financially support them? I would not want to ask my husband for money because I was not raised to do that as an adult. Asking for an allowance was framed as a thing to do as children. If I could clean the majority of the house in a weekend and get just enough money to go and see my friends and buy a movie ticket and a cheap meal as a teenager, that life would not be fulfilling to me at 30. I believe that self growth and maturing isn’t something that ends in your teens or 20s. I believe that people should not be content and feel fulfilled with the same things that were at the top of their skill set at 13 when they are fully grown and mature enough to be married.
