With a good weather window forecast, I headed to the Yorkshire Dales to explore the Howgills for the first time .
After parking near the Cross Keys Temperance Inn on the A683, I head up to the Calf via Cautley Spout. Once at the summit I was blessed with clear blue skies, deep snow, and no wind.
Once I stamped down a patch of snow I pitched my MLD Trailstar, sparked up the Trangia 27 and cooked chicken in a tarragon, white wine and cream sauce.
A truly memorable solo wild camp.
I hope you enjoy watching.

Cracking video Mate. Hope you're Dad is better as I have had serious teeth issues and know painful it can be. The tent is very interesting, with having no front door 😂. I would be interested in seeing how you can do fish and chips on the Trangia. It would be interesting to see how you would handle a volume of cooking oil .😮😮😮
@belowaveragewildcamper
@belowaveragewildcamper 5 ай бұрын
Now that would be a challenge but I reckon I could do fish N Chips On the trangia. I could take a large bottle of cooking oil. Once finished and the Oil Was cool I could decanter it back into the bottle and take it home with me 🤔 Hmmmm interesting. Aye, nowt worse than tooth ache. No wonder older generations would remove all their healthy teeth at a young age and get dentures fitted before they started causing trouble. Bit like celebrities do nowadays 🤔 hmmmmmm All the best Andrew. 🤔

Cracking video, as always, and stunning conditions. Really enjoyed a look at a walk I've still to do. Glad you made the effort and I know what you mean. I have to kick myself out the door sometimes, especially when tired, but it's nearly always worth the effort. Meal looked fantastic - just the ticket for a cold, snowy day. And you make it look easy, even in the confined space of the tent, and I know it isn't! Another one of your curries would be grand if you're in the mood. Best wishes to Dave for recovering from a procedure that made me wince just listening to it!

Of course you do realise that’s my patch you’re on matey🤣🤣🤣. You must be a warm sleeper, I don’t think that doorless tent would keep me warm enough. I passed the Howgills on Monday on the way to High cup nick. It was snowy and very windy. I was going to camp but the high winds would have meant a very disturbed night even though my 4 season tent would have coped ok. Keep ‘em coming. Atb.

Yeah I got the absolute perfect conditions on Sunday. It was completely stunning in the snow. Yeah, I use your vids for research Pete. That is very much Pete’s stomping ground 🤣 It’s the open door that I like about the tent. Being able to always look out is a great feeling. But you’re right, I think I must run hot as I’m rarely cold. All the best Pete. Thanks for leaving a comment mate. 🙏
