I'm surprised you didn't bring up Evil Dead, Dead by Dawn especially.

I'm a late comer here. But I do remember being scared by Dracula and the Wolf Man in Abbot and Costello, and the Monster in Tennis Shoes from the Loony Toons. Lovecraft's story Herbert West: Reanimator is very funny and truly horrifying.( It was also scary when people chased Abbot because they thought he was the werewolf.)

Tucker & Dale vs Evil It's a parody of the killer hillbilly horror movies where the hillbillies are really the innocent victims The whole movie is based on a big misunderstanding

Spot on omni , Abbott and castelo Horror shows are the best they did in my opinion, some pretty good ones with the 3 stooges also even though they might have taken little less serious the monsters.

Personally I adore horror comedies especially when done well. Especially evil dead, young Frankenstein, and an American Werewolf in London.

I think horror comedies can be well done. It's all about how the films opening establishes the film's tone. If the film is presented as a straight up horror-comedy movie with legit funny jokes and scaries than it can work. If the film is established as a horror but has comedy that conflicts with the scariness and horror, then it just falls flat. It's all about the execution, not inherently mixing comedy and horror in of itself.

Hey omni aren't their some dark comedies that border on horror? Also, what? No mention of the Evil Dead franchise?
@obsidian1794 жыл бұрын
You can mix horror and comedy, but only if you take the horror elements seriously. If not... well, you can end up with something like Dracula: Dead and Loving It. (Of course, it also goes without saying that the comedy has to be funny - again, unlike the previous example.)
@godemperorjacob44474 жыл бұрын
I think that most horror comedies lean more towards either the horror side like Reanimator, Evil Dead 2, or Dead Alive and on the other side are movies that lean more towards the comedy side like Shaun of the Dead, or Gremlins. I just want to know why you didn't touch on the former at all, it seems like it would be an important thing to touch on in this video.

Do you think that a modern comedy duo could make a series of horror comedies? Abbot and Costello met Frankenstein's monster, the wolf man, Dracula, the Mummy, Dr.Jekyl &Mr.Hyde, the Killer: Boris Karloff, and in a cameo the creature from the black lagoon. Could Penn and Teller do horror/comedy?

There’s a balance to everything though it really matters about how you execute the performance of the film and how it’s made.

I think there are plenty of horror movies that work with all ranges and types of comedy. It’s just that it’s seems difficult execute and bad horror-coms are especially rough to sit through.

@@omniviewer2115 it's fine, like you said they were used sparingly to where they weren't seen as tasteless and the second time it was used was a more like a heartwarming callback to the first one to solidify their friendship.

Horror and comedy are 2 different genres and mixing them is like mixing coca cola soda with Hot chocolate. Never, EVER mix comedy and horror.
