Got my first Apex controller 12 years ago alongside my first reef, but I did get my Neptune Systems Trident only a couple of weeks ago. First impressions, initial setup and more in this video. I've hooked up AquaticLog to my Trident so you can my realtime water parameters here: aquaticlog.com/treasurecorals

I've had the Trident for about 4 or so months. I've calibrated with Neptune's solution and my own tank water. It is accurate on Magnesium and Calcium. It's consistently 1 dkh low on Alkalinity and always has been. I'm not the only one with that issue. I do love it though.

Interesting. I will run a few tests and compare the results.

Same here. I bought mine back in Nov 22. As long as my alk is in a range, then I'm happy. I do still test all parameters weekly just to make sure things are still on track.

I have loved the Trident since I purchased it years ago. I don't ever see myself without one. Mine was very comparable to Hannas results.

I am certainly enjoying mine and it has made a big difference to my schedule already.

I have had a Trident for two years. Best piece of equipment I have purchased for my reef tank. On accuracy, I find my dKH about .5 lower with Trident than Hanna checker. It is absolutely consistent with all three tests. Calcium and Magnesium are right in line with my manual testing. The Mastertronic is another auto tester that will also measure nitrates and phosphates. If my pockets were deeper I would love to try one of those.

Wow, great to hear this Gary. I am putting another Trident on my other system, it has been exceptional so far.

this is kind of a lot to ask but, can you make a par reading for the ai blade while resting on the tank, with a single and dual blades. and the intensity used for testing?
@TreasureCorals
@TreasureCorals Жыл бұрын
I have done these recently and got about 200-300 par easy. They are a plenty.

I know you just got the trident, but do you think the time gained from not manual testing is going to be switched over to maintenance for your controller? I've never owned an apex or trident, don't know much about them. But I just think about the more you add makes another thing to look after. Although I think it's a perfect device for a farm system like yours. Hope it does well for you! Great video!

It is a very good point, so far I can't really comment on this as I am still new to the device. I love that initial feeling and will get a second one for my other tank. Now where will I get 6 or 12 months from now - no idea. Right now it solves my biggest problem - I sometimes forget to replenish some of the 3-part and may find this out days after. I also still feel that I want to dial in more.

It will need maintenance once in a while, and the lines plug up once in a while and calibrated 1 time every month or so i've found out.

Thanks, I have done the first calibration. Looks good so far, and I can't see myself running a reef without it.

what frequencies can you change the testing to? 1 test a day possible? wondering about recurring reagent costs.
@TreasureCorals
@TreasureCorals Жыл бұрын
I am still using the stock 4 alk, 2 mag/cal, but I think with some tweaking you could change it to less frequent - I've seen some threads on it. At this moment I still like that ability to really dial in so will take a hit for now, but will eventually see what other options are there. If you come across one - please let me know.

I can see the appeal. I'd really like something that is standalone that measures the big 5 plus pH for under $700 and $50 a year for KH, PO4 and NO3 daily and Ca / Mg weekly. At that price I'd probably test 4x that. I think the reagents will come soon and the machines not long after. I'd love Potassium too - I think K is more important than Ca and Mg. For now though I'd rather take that money and do 4 ICP tests a year and just test KH and occasionally PO4 or NO3 because everything is pretty stable. If they had that machine I'd run my tank differently with carbon dosing plus NO3 and PO4 dosing to keep a perfect 150-200:1 ratio probably with 0.1 PO4. I just don't see much value in testing Ca and Mg if you use a good salt.

Clearly getting free stuff from commercial entities does influence what you say and do as you would not be talking about or using the product had it not been supplied for free.....

I beg to differ - if you look at my channel's Product Reviews section - I review a lot of things I paid with my own money. And I have put a disclaimer when I did not. Seems fair to me.

Why people bashing somebody that is reviewing product, whether he got the product free or paid. He is simply showing what it does and how it works. You don't like it move on, go to another KZfaq channel. I enjoy his content even he got the stuff for free. Being negative in life is not good for your mental health. Simple

I wish I had 2k$ for an apex and trident. So overpriced man. We need something new to compete with the apex with a more affordable price.
@TreasureCorals
@TreasureCorals Жыл бұрын
As someone who is familiar with manufacturing and distributing products, I must say that I understand how the price is formed. There are many people involved, rent, upkeep, marketing, distribution. I like the idea of tiers, for example - EcoTech is a high tier company and is charging an appropriate price for a high tier product, but they should also be judged differently than a low tier brand with a lot cheaper product.
