Yeah I don't use shooting benches, Never have or will unless it's someone else's weapon and it's already set up, like a static concealed precision setup. I never saw the point because practicing active shooting and combat awareness seemed way more relevant.

Been doing this forever. If you need "quick detach," just stick a plastic snap hook on the end so you can clip in and out of the paracord. Sometimes you gotta step away from the gear market and ask whether the fancy stuff is actually solving a problem.

In ITB, we always received broken gear, including slings. my sling was attached to my M4 with a bootlace on the metal sling loop at the bottom of the stock, and my broken flak buckle was repaired with a zip tie I found on the ground. lol good times.

In STA we used to replace All our ALICE clips with high OD speed tape 550 stitched through the cartridge belt eyelets, all stitched and melted. There's an art to duece gear jungle adaptation.

Harness' metal attachment clips replaced by 550 thru the eyelets in the belt? I rocked ALICE whenever I could in Hawaii, and watching Jungle School vids it seems old school is best school as some are still using Rhodesian-rigged ALICE.

@@hateferlife Tbh. Turns out my Asspack Does have the clips, but it's reinforced with 550 cord sheath and OD cloth tape. Nothing more annoying than a magazine pouch or first aid kit falls off somewhere during a hump,, patrol, or left in a trac. We call that "target indicator". When I was in, Vietnam era duece gear was still issue. Did I mention Hawaii? or did you recognize 2/3??

@@BattleGn0me Happenstance on the Hawaii mention. Was in Schofield 2002-09 and glad for it. Knowing how Kahuku and Pohakuloa Training Areas treat gear gave me a good eye for quality kit, and failing that, how to operate thread and needle. Often bumped into MC in the field and deployed. It was always a pleasure to bounce ideas back and forth with fellow Grunts.

@@hateferlife I was a Dragon gunner in WPNS 2/3 in the late 80's(GenX) and did a lot of demo shoots out at PTA. Then went to STA school at NTA. Lava tended to turn gear red and shred it. Alot of patrol gear we just bought out in town and modified it for purpose.

Necessity is the mother of Invention. During the Iraq Invasion of 2003, I tied 550 cord to the slip ring of my hand guards for my M4/M203, and to the buttstock so I could use the standard issue black sling. I didn't have access to any high speed slings, and attachment points were limited due to the M203. It worked fine.
