Finished front porch roof and then moved inside to work on getting the wall, rafters and ceiling all tied together. Made some shutters for windows. Moved stove into place but lacked about a foot of pipe so that will have to wait for next time.

You know you are enjoying the video when all of of sudden its ending and you are wondering where you were all this time. Your build is so aesthetically pleasing it almost evokes an ASMR experience.The placement of the boards to cover the gaps is seamless and of course, the shutters are a very creative touch. Its just so beautiful!!! Great job my friend.

I can't tell you how many times I pictured my own cabin with a partial stone front with the remainder being hewn logs. Your cabin is sweet! I imagine mine being much larger, but with that comes a great deal of work, energy & supplies. With the cost of materials skyrocketing, it's nice to be able to use elements from the land, but there are still a lot of things that need to be store-bought such as nails, hardware, plywood, insulation, roofing, etc. etc. A lot needs to be considered in building your own home, starting with buying the land. It's a nice dream if you can swing it! Until that time, I'll be content watching others build their dream cabin on youtube!

As Billy said I'm really enjoying it. It's really taking shape. Just waiting to see the doors go in. I've never quite seen one Built This Way. It is structurally sound. All I can say is wow. I wish I had the knowledge you do I would have built one better than I did. But I suppose I could always tear mine down and build a new one. Except for the price of wood now hahaha. 👍WOW, I mean WOW. A wood burning-heat source stove in the middle of two windows; where it belongs. So many other channels install in a corner next to the exterior doorway. 1) in the corner, ruins the space. Which is at a premium. 2) next to the door, let's the heat out.

I like how you used Conventional lumber to build your logs. My question is to you how much did you spend on building logs like that opposed to having 4 x 8 logs milled.
@TheOffGridExperience
@TheOffGridExperience Жыл бұрын
I'm going to do a total cost video sometime soon. This method was cheaper than having logs milled. Also, the terrain had a little bit of say as well. Hauling heavy logs up and down hills over a creek would be tough. Thanks for watching!

I have been hooked on your episodes, are you a carpenter by trade? If not where did you learn to do all of that work. How big is that property that you own and do you have the main house nearby? Keep on doing what you do, it makes me want to sell my house and build a cabin like yours out here in Idaho. 👍

With all do respect, this collection of videos should be used as a tool on what NOT to do. - Why use all 2” x 8” or 10” construction, bizarre? - What is the “R” value of anything? - How long do you think that foundation will last? Let’s come back in 5 or 10 years and look at this monstrosity, see how it is holding up. There are so many great KZfaq videos to watch with real craftsmen, why watch this hack job.
