When you consider the amount of silent films that have gone missing or been destroyed since the start of cinema it kind of puts the aims of the videogame preservation community into perspective.

I agree, it's very important and since we're living in an age where storage space is much more affordable than it was a decade or so earlier, and absolutely that goes for movies, books, cartoons/anime and any other media for that matter..

Sadly film preservationists have a very challenging job, unlike video games, very old film reels were not mass produced. Only movie theaters had them and it could be just one of each with no space for keeping everything, also some studios used to show their movies only on their theaters. And the film itself deteriorates with time very rapidly, specially if not kept in perfect conditions. It is very sad indeed

@JustAFilmGuy

@@user-yk1cw8im4h I don't understand why you'd watch this. What's the point in preserving weird anime video games from the 1990s on a niche console? Who is going to want to play the Fairchild Channel F? None of this stuff is going to appeal to everybody, but this stuff is important and worth preserving. It's history.
@diegog1853
@diegog1853 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-yk1cw8im4h Even if no one enjoys it, people can learn from them, Either old methods, old trends, the birth of some ideas and genres. Like if you want to learn about the history of horror films, drama, comedy, you have to start with silent films. There is a lot of value in art aside from personal enjoyment. And that assuming that no one enjoys them, but there are people that enjoy it and if they do there is nothing wrong with providing the product that they seek.

[Try4ce] This is definitely the episode for people who feel that way. A big part of why we do that in other episodes is just because we think the official versions are interesting, and we figure, if you're into emulation, then you probably already know how you like to emulate. So if we tell you about the official versions, then you can decide WHICH version to emulate. That said, this episode did give me a lot more experience using other emulation tools, so perhaps you'll see more of it in the future... but the scene moves so fast, and it's so hard to keep up, that sometimes we feel that's best left up to those who follow emulation the closest.

The best episode of the channel has been created in my opinion after years of being a retro game enthusiast and experiences with emulation.

Great work! I know from your live streams how much work has gone into this and I found it really interesting to watch. My favourite part so far! I've also recommended it to a couple of friends who aren't hardcore retro gamers, but I know they would be interested in something like this.

Awesome video! I really liked the segment on Evan Amos. I have his book on my bookshelf but didn’t know the story behind the pictures. It’s amazing how much work and effort these people put into this for little to no monetary gain.

I rewatched part 1+2 today and this, and now i have to wait... waiting is annoying, but this series is just high quality! Simple, but very informative and good structured. I applaud your effort. I hope you can keep that up.

Such a well made, presented, & edited documentary. You got the A-List of the retro gaming community and gave them all a voice and opinion worth hearing. I love the balance that this had. If only we could all agree there is no right or wrong way to play these games. Its all done to personal choice.
