Anchor Chain Replacement On A Sailboat (Episode 50)

Hi everyone! My name is Vasil, and on this episode I am replacing the anchor chain on my 1966 Cal Jensen 40. This is not a technically difficult project, but it is challenging due to the space constraints and the weight of the chain. My boat has a Maxwell RC-8 windlass motor, the proper chain for this particular application is a 5/16" BBB in either galvanized or stainless steel. Please check your particular model for the chain, as they are different depending on the model and spec.
I will also replace the anchor foot switches, as they are no longer functioning. This is what I used:

You connected your chain directly to the boat. You should have some rode connected to the chain so you can cut yourself free in an emergency. That's why there was rode on the old chain. If you sail long enough, you will eventually have to cut yourself free

Arthur.... you make a very good point! I didn't even think of that. The chain can be disconnected in the chain locker by pulling out the retaining pin. However, I can see how in an emergency situation that would be quite difficult. I do have a bunch of rode that I will attach in the future. Bro 50$???!!. I would have spent 100$ and got 200' of chain. Heck I would have spent 150$ for 300'.

I hear you, I would have done the same thing IF the guy had more chain. All he had was that 100', he didn't need it anymore. It was a private listing, not a store. But overall, that was a very good purchase in my opinion. I do have a bunch of rode that will need to be attached in the future. Thank you for the comment!
