I think the point of cassian getting arrested is to show how corrupt the empire is. Even tho he’s a wanted dude they still arrested him for pretty much nothing not even knowing his true identity

@12:06 you call out that Andor is arrested for nothing as a plot hole. But it's also something that has already been highlighted 4 episodes earlier. In EP4, the very first line of conversation on the first ISB meeting we see. The Empire has been giving out detention quota. Numbers harsh enough to cause security concerns for the ISB leadership. We also see that the court system has been rigged to help make sure those quotas are reached. So the arrest wasn't for nothing, it was to fill a quota. The Empire just needs more slave labour to build the death star.

Going from Kenobi or Boba Fett (even Mandalorian) to this show is practically neck breaking in the uptick in the quality of writing and story telling. Goes from being a "Star Wars show" to an actual very good TV show. I don't know what Tony Gilroy said to them to allow him and his team to make a properly serious drama espionage thriller but I'm glad they agreed to it because it's miraculously turned out to be one of the best things I watched this year.

On your point on Cassian getting randomly arrested. It's to show the effects of the P.OR.D, the public order resentencing directive which the emperor put in place in response to the Aldani heist. Mon Mothma also goes to the senate to challenge the legislation. Under the directive, policing and punishment is cranked up really high. It also shows that Andor is indirectly held responsible for his actions. Also, Andor's tablemates ask him about P.O.R.D since many prisoners were getting randomly arrested for no reason as well. In my opinion it's pretty connected.

The reason Cassian got arrested is because the Empire was most likely arresting random people to use as labor for the Death Star.

I feel like Andor is what Lucas wanted the prequels to be. A political thriller interwoven with awesome action set pieces. I would kill to have Tony Gilroy make a show like this set during the Clone Wars and have it actually delve into the other politcal factions and their goals.

Andor has the high ground now

Cassian's arrest was integral to his arc. He starts out the show stating he just wants to get some money and escape to live his life quietly. He doesn't care about fighting against the Empire as long as he's left alone. And Episode 7 shows that! Andor got his money and is chilling out in Niamos. This is what he wanted. But then reality comes around and he gets profiled, arrested and then given an extremely harsh sentence because totalitarians gonna totalitarian. The PORD was set up before as well and explains his random arrest and harsh sentence. Either way, this is the midpoint of Andor's arc. He realises that he'll never get what he wants till the Empire is gone. From there on out you see he's a much more active character in the show and not just pushed around by the events surrounding him. He's the one who instigates the Prison escape and he's actively participates in the final 2 episodes, culminating with him begging Luthen to let him fight.

Cassian getting arrested made sense to me because I saw it as a second-hand result of the Aldhani heist. super ironic that he gets arrested not for participating in the heist itself, but because of the extreme measures the Empire puts in place as a result of the heist. Other than that, I kinda agree with escape from Narkina criticism, but i think that's small enough to let slide

Binged it 5 days ago and am still on a high. I didn't realize how much this universe meant to me until i felt the glow this show put in my heart.

The hardest jump of "how did we get here" I found this show makes is from the end of the heist arc to Cassian suddenly living at what almost looks like some kind of tropical resort. But even that does check out perfectly with who hes been established to be as a person up until that point; Cassian at the start is pretty cynical all around, with relatively few hopes of actually going anywhere, he's just trying to survive under the boot of the Empire, thinking as long as he can carve out a relatively comfortable, stable life for himself, he'll be safe, and he'll be okay. And I think the way the story progresses from that point makes perfect sense as well. It takes getting arrested for essentially just being in the wrong place at the wrong time because a cop thought he looked suspicious for him to realize that no matter what life he manages to carve out for himself, there is no promise that that boot wont be back one day to step back down on him again. With that, the show is explicitly saying that so long as the boot, the oppression of the authoritarian regime of the Empire, exists, there is no real freedom to be gained. There is only one way to be free of the boot, and thats to get rid of it entirely. Its a remarkably direct message of rebellion against an unjust system to be coming from a corporation as massive as Disney, really.

I love Andor so much, its definitely the best show they've made and it's better than most of the movies too. It might even be my favorite piece of Star Wars media of all time

This show made me more than ever, want to see Edwards and Gilroy's original cut of _Rogue One_ before the reshoots (40% of the movie was reshot, if I'm correct). They set out to make a serious war movie, but Disney ordered them to add in all the fan service and levity.

This was such a memorable show for me because I recall sitting down expecting really nothing much and pausing it 5-10 minutes into the show because I was already awestruck by the juxtaposition of this next to kenobi . The cinematography, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the music; it was already blowing me away with everything I wanted for years and my brain honestly couldn’t keep up with it. Had a huge smile for the whole initial 3 hours, and it came back during every episode week after week. Great stuff.

Andor is a window to the harsh reality that is: The Mandalorian is a "good" show. But that's all it is, Andor prominently Showcases how the Mandalorian is missing so much potential when it comes to the presentation and how it's chosen to handle its characters. When watching Andor you truly felt like you were in the room experiencing the lavish parties with Mon Mothma. Feeling the mounting underlying tension of her like Luthen having to wear two different masks constantly throughout their day. Funny how even though Mon disagrees with Luthen they both have that in common. I'm there with Syril as he fights to find Andor who he sees as a destructive force who needs to be stopped. Being fired from his job feeling bad for the guy and seeing he's not just a bad person but a son to a mother who worries and who works his ass off to get Dedra's attention. The imperials on Aldhani playing poker, starring in administration at the Eye, drinking coffee, getting killed trying to negotiate the release of an innocent child. Working men going about their duties are being killed by a group of thieves stealing the paychecks of hard-working imperials who have families to take care of. Ferrix had people doing various activities. Construction work repairing the building, welding, cooking. Coruscant airport had people in various clothes moving in every direction. So much activity happening all at once like what you experience at a football game, malls during the holidays, packed restaurants, etc. At the ISB you feel the frustration over the bierocracy prominent when Dedra tries to do her job. Major Partagaz wants to help Dedra but keeps her Grounded and warns her that if she pushes too hard and a situation arises where she has been discredited the sharks with injured Egos caused by her will gather to feast on her at her weakest. The Mandalorian is the exact opposite the world feels artificial, small, and simplistic. Characters aren't like Mon Mothma, Luthen, Kino, Arvel, Syril, Dedra who feel like in every scene there's an emotion or thought that is being held by the character that he or she can't verbalize only convey through their multiple layered expressions. Andor is a prime example of what ALL star wars live-action shows should be. The Mandalorian should have been about a man who likes Joel in the Last of Us was a man just doing the next job without questioning Morals. A look at the dirty brutal underworld of the Galaxy. Think of 1313 and the outlaws of Red Dead Redemption 2. But who slowly gains their humanity back by taking care of a child who needs his help. As for thoughs who say it's "Boring" sadly and frustratingly. Today's majority audience lacks the attention span to enjoy a slow carefully crafted buildup to the explosions, blaster fire, and fistfights. They subconsciously want to go straight into an action scene with minimal thought put into the actual motivations and multiple plotted events leading up to the first blaster bolt being fired. They just care about the next cameo, and fast-paced tv shows that lack a strong story that stands the test of time.

Andor is the best Star Wars thing to ever have happened. I really loved it.

No one was expecting this show to be better than Kenobi and Boba Fett. I remember so much hype for those two shows and almost none for Andor, people almost scoffed at it. I however always had hope for it, even if I didn't anticipate the fuck ups that the kenofett shows did, I always thought it could have more smaller scale stories with an unexplored character leading it to be open towards more possibilities. I wanna say about the shoretrooper arrest. Although Andor getting arrested for simply standing there is kind of really dumb, it does sort of make sense. The prisons were extremely cheap labour and they were mass producing important equipment for the empire. I'm assuming nearby systems orders their troopers to take in extra prisoners if they can (I also assume they get rewarded extra for it). Andor was near criminal activity happening and he looked identical to the culprits, so it was a perfect snag for the prison labour. I know it does come off as writing a lot of it in my head as it's not shown onscreen, but doesn't it make a lot of sense? The prison is a factory, prisoners are worked to death, people's sentences get reset, they add little tiny things as rewards for the most productive groups. Then Andor was arrested for seemingly nothing and was not given a fair trial. It's a slave camp for labour, hidden away from the rest of the empire.

Gonna be totally honest, as someone who liked Disney star wars, I kinda realized how starved I was of good content. I love Mando, but I’d never call it deep content. It’s just a really well made show that’s kinda cozy. This show felt like an actual TV show.

1:24-1:31 the side by side comparison of the scenes in TBOBF and Andor shows a very fundamental reason why Andor is loved the way it is. Production quality, thehe sheer depth, natural colouring and creative boundaries an open world production offers to something shot in a room with a 270 degree screen is pretty evident.

Cassian was probably 6 years old when whatever the Empire did to Kenari happened, and I'm guessing it's been about 5 or 6 years since then, so for him he's been involved since he was 6 years old.

I've seen the kinds of people who would call this show "slow and boring". I've seen them on Mr Brown's streams. To be honest - they're basically "The Nerd Crew" Lite. "They should include characters we grew to care about." and "I don't care about the empire goons, except for Vader, cause Vader is badass." is their whole game. Bunch'a morons is what I'm sayin'. After I found the Lost Chord (pun, I know), learned to trust him and he gave Andor a rave review, I was on the fence if I'd ever watch it since the last thing that I watched from Star Wars was the prequels. I sat on it for a few weeks and decided that there's so much more praise for it, I gave it a spin... Not lying I was impressed by the time I got to episode 3. One of my top games of all time is Tie Fighter - mostly because of the setting and lore. Andor delivered what I wanted in terms of characterizing the empire in spades. Basically if you enjoyed Tie Fighter you are the target audience for this... But there's a scene, a very specific scene in episode 6 (which, by me, is the best episode of the series) where... Ok, from the top: Classic cliche trope: we're doing a heist, we've just opened the vault. One of the side characters (more often than not it's a side character) walks into it slowly, seemingly in awe and says something trite that the movie shoots as if it were the most profound thing ever. Classic cliche... And clearly, CLEARLY you can see that Andor went for it hook, line and sinker. But then - again you can clearly see it - instead of letting the cliche line run through its course, the editor (god bless Dan Roberts, as I believe this to be his doing) just cut it out entirely. What we instead get is the setup for the cliche, the slow walk-in, the pause in the action and instead of the stupid line - a hard cut to a different angle and the same character turns around and screams "Let's goooooooooo!". And it is at this moment I had to pause it, get up, take a break just to compose myself because I was too overwhelmed with excitement. That is how you subvert expectations, Ryan Fucking Johnson. That scene is what made me love Andor instead of just liking it.

Something I really liked about Andor was unlike a lot of past star wars stuff, death actually means something when someone dies that's it dead is dead in this show and I like it and its so abrupt as well when people die in this show it feels impactful. Which is something a lot of star wars lately really either danced around if it wasn't a main good guy character or just pretended it didn't exist. And in moderation its fine, but i I think thees been to much of that recently and death just doesn't feel real anymore in Star wars. Another thing I like about Andor is there is really no hand holding in this show, the show expects you to watch it and understand what's going on, and that's kinda nice cus the past few shows have felt i dunno I feel like they think the audience is stupid and it felt very patronizing to watch. And it always irked me when the most criticism the show got was "I can't tell whats going on its so boring and confusing" Cus if you pay attention to the show its fairly easy to follow. Now it being boring? Well everyone has there own style of story telling and I can't fault someone for prefer faster paced shows. I prefer a slower paced shows like Andor than say compared to a lot of what we see out of Marvel I don't pat to much attention to those movies and TV shows cus a lot of them are much to fast paced for me,to enjoy my experience watching a lot of marvel movies recently has been "wow things are happening I don't know why but the music is nice to listen to and the visuals are nice" They almost feel overstimulating to me so I don't really like watching them.

Earlier in the episode where Cassian is arrested and sentenced for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Klem (his adoptive father) is shown in two flashbacks to have been captured an executed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This isn’t GL’s “it’s like poetry”, because the repeated plot actually serves a purpose: It expresses intention in the script’s decision to have Cassian arrested arbitrarily, as it essentially doubles down on it by doing it to Klem before-showing us that Cassa’s arrest WAS arbitrary, and that it being arbitrary was the point. All the rebels in the show do bad things, but Cassian goes to prison for literally nothing; it’s infuriating, as it is when it happens in real life in more authoritarian regimes, and even at home in our quasi-oligarchical semi-democracies. Systemic issues like being arrested and improperly processed are hard to portray through interpersonal character drama (aka, they had to show it twice to suggest it isn’t a flaw, it’s a feature of the galactic empire-unfortunately, humans prefer sets of threes to suggest patterns, not twos.

The fishing aliens who helped Cassian were actually a refreshing take. If it were the Mandalorian, the fishing aliens would give them a ride to Niamos but ONLY AFTER retrieving their sacred artifact from another local alien species, but they're buglike and swarms of them so you can kill tons of them senselessly. Andor would then return with the artifact only to realize the aliens were liars and getting into a blaster shootout and then the ship explodes and he's stuck there another 4 episodes trying to grind enough credits for ship parts while hiding from the blahblahblahblahndjnspnvs

Cassian getting stopped and arrested was very realistic actually. Just cuz he “fit the description”. Happens all the time especially wit minorities. The show was definitely tryna draw a parallel to that.

I watched rogue one and was disappointed because it wasn't andor. Then Andor came out and I was like, holy shit this is exactly what I wanted, and it's so good.

13:35 This was my exact feeling after finishing the season. Even though I liked Rogue One, I honestly wish it never existed and Andor came out in 2016 instead of it. I would've loved to see Andor be a 3-5 season show that explores his entire journey all the way to the Battle of Scarif and his death. I would've loved to see characters like Jyn and Chirrut fully fleshed out in this show rather than how they were in the movie. But instead, the show's ending will probably be fairly unsatisfying.

I'm also quite curious to the amount of people who called this boring but still enjoy other character drama type shows like House of the Dragon. Perhaps people took it as a Star Wars show therefore they could play on their phones or computers like they did in during the other Disney+ Star Wars content. This is definitely a put your phone away kind of show.

I loved Season 1 of “Andor”, so have been watching most of the videos the algorithm feeds me and really enjoyed the outstanding candor & insight saturating this commentary. Looking forward to more shows worthy of more of the same - and then, well, more of this

I thought that the point of the conversation Andor had with Luthen about his involvement in the Mimban war was to show how he was prone to exaggeration. He was already shown to be a hustler so his claim to Jyn about being in the fight since he was 6 years old could have been just another exaggeration.

I finished bingewatching it myself. The way the writing excels in the show serves the critical eye when you can see the patterns and parallels between opposing sides. We can appreciate these ambiguous characters for the right reasons, and we can understand the wrong reasons that push them in whichever direction. I enjoyed this show on an intellectual and visual levels. A masterpiece.

I think Cassian’s arrest is meant to show how he can’t escape the injustice of the Empire. He can’t do a quick act of rebellion and then live a normal life, rebellion is now his life, and must be his life.

This show has so much substance it was overwhelming but oh so goood! I hung to every single line of dialogue.

I may be reading into it too much, but I think Andor's home planet and his people got screwed over by the Republic. Apparently the ship that crashed on the planet was that of Republic and Andor's adoptive mother (or father, can't remember) said the Republic ships are coming.

Cassian being arrested for nothing shows how bad the empire is. How oppressive. He wants to just chill and lay low Cassian says " it's better to live your life do what you want" than to fight the empire. The arrest for nothing proves him wrong it isn't possible to just keep your head down and pretend it isn't happening when you live under an authoritarian state.

i think the two problems with the plot you brought up really shore up the themes the story is going for. The Empire tightening its grasp over the galaxy i believe there was an ISB discussion about needing to increase quotas and prison times due to the theft Andor took part in. The Aliens defying the empire really speaks to the goals Luthin set out to accomplish in the galaxy to further the rebellion. Also i really love how Andors adoptive mother became a LITERAL weapon against the empire. :D

I maintain my belief in that this show provided much needed character and world building. Season 1 provided the depth for the action we will see in Season 2, I’m so hyped! My favorite parts of the show are the the insight to the Empire we see and the grass roots of the rebellion. LOVE watching the game of thrones nature of the senate too

Will get a Disney Plus sub JUST for this show, love the reviews. We need more adult Star Wars content and the people running it have to stop babying their audience. Its not for only kids anymore.

I think the arrest scene works great, and is one of my favorites how its done. Andor being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and how the trooper accusing him being in on 'it' is intimidating. The empire is as wide as an ocean and Andor is this shell that gets pulled into the tide

the best use of the volume was actually book of boba fett. having one continuous shot of an entering and exiting an elevator is awesome and helps connect you to the empierce

Man I feel really at home on your channel The plot contrivances you talk about are exactly the one thing that stood out for me too in a negative way, but I am able to look past them because the rest of the show is just so good. Like, the show made me tear up in a couple of instances. Imagine the whiplash I got when Andor gets arrested in a kind of comedic way right after his heartbreaking split from his mother. I had given up on Star Wars after Episode 7, it was clear that everything made by Disney would just be a themepark ride with no substance. I am grateful KZfaqr like you who I respect fight the good fight and recommend those lonely islands in a sea of drab ( btw I watched your review after I had finished the show, I never watch reviews about stuff I might find interesting before watching the actual show).

Cassian getting arrested is more a result of the empire in the wake of the aldhani heist has stepped up their sentencing for crimes while making it so there needs to be less justification for such harsh sentencing. The ISB people basically say it’s maintain the order through cruelty and display the power of the empire when the heist finally showed them they can be beat. It also makes sense that if they’re just starting the death star at this time they’re going to need a lot of Manuel labor to do so more than they already had so the harsher sentencing kills two birds with one stone for them. Allows unchecked authority for the empire to still look like they’re in control and allows them an avenue to find the labor needed for their war machine so Cassian getting nabbed is probably very similar to anyone else in the galaxy at that time where the empire is just looking or even making up reasons to put that newly granted authority into effect.

The point of Andor's arrest on Niamos is that in the runtime of the episode prior to that he was trying to run away (like the rebel cell on Aldhani said, he's not a believer, not yet) he wanted to take Maarva with him, but she (heartened by the very heist Andor helped pull) isn't willing to abandon the fight on Ferrix, because she knows what Andor doesn't yet; he thinks that if he can just keep his head down he won't have to worry about the Empire, but it's not that simple. Even when you try to keep your head down, tyranny doesn't discriminate.

I don't think you actually got the idea of why it was important for Cassian to be arrested for "existing" on 'Space Miami'.... He mentioned in earlier episodes he just wanted to get away from the Empire's reach and have enough credits to do what he wanted. He got his wish but the fact he got arrested by the Empire means that it's impossible to escape the Empire's grasp, you have to fight against it. Everything from his arrest to the whole prison sequence is to show Cassian himself how evil the Empire is, how Maarva was right and ignite the flame in him to rebel.

Although the show may be "slow" with not a lot of action scenes (RELATIVELY speaking when compared to other SW shows and movies), I still found the few action moments in Andor to be super engaging and exciting. And that's because I actually found myself sincerely giving a damn about the story/characters. There are very clear high stakes on the line and you come to really find yourself caring about the characters due to how well fleshed out they are. It's even more impressive to see me caring this much due to us already knowing what the efforts from the people of this show are going to help accomplish in Rogue One and beyond. Because, usually, I tend to notice with a lot of these "expansive movie universe" franchises I hardly find myself caring about what goes on in one movie/tv spin off because it just usually ends up feeling like I'm watching filler/fodder for something else. But Andor miraculously bucks that trend exceptionally well. Because they made you care about the "struggle" aspect these people go through and made it super engaging/exciting to see how everyone forms their motivation. Truly embodying the mantra of "it's not about the end destination, it's about the journey" God I'm so hyped for Season 2. It's been stuck so prominently in my mind even after being done watching the first season 2-3 weeks ago. And now I'm just obsessively scavenging every inch of KZfaq to see others talk about it because how much I just wanna see more Andor stuff. It's so fucking crazy man. Never thought in a million years I'd never give a shit about Disney Star Wars like this. I mean, I was pretty stoked when Rogue One and thought Mandolorian was a fun time. Other than that though, I was pretty tuned the hell out of anything Disney Star Wars. But, man, Andor is seriously some next level stuff when it comes to Disney Star Wars

For me the 2 Aliens that let Andor go is not really an issue for me. It shows that there can be good people and don't have to be part of a rebellion to do some good against the empire. I think its very plausible that people can hate the Empire and want nothing to do with the atrocities and do small things against them such as help out 2 people escaping them.

I wonder if Andor will "contaminate" the rest of Star Wars or if it's just going to be a standalone way to build a story.

I feel like the arcs do connect together because the Aldhani arc is tied to the prison break arc because Andor getting arrested and given a massive sentence is because the Heist on Aldhani made the Empire crackdown.

But I watched this on your recommendation and it was a straight banger. thanks a lot man, good job.

The Andor arrest scene was there to prove Nemik right when he said that the empire would overreact to an attack, and that would then push people to rebel. Cassian was minding his own business but got forced into building Death Star parts, which was the final push he needed to truly join the rebellion.

After they're finished with Andor, I'd love to see this director and writing team tackle the nuances of the New Republic's formation after RoTJ. Like forming a new government after collapsing an emprie isn't as easy as people think. The empire's collapse should cause economic devastation, and it'd be interesting to see the former rebels question whether or not destrying it was the right thing. It could give us new characters and context for the stuff going on in Mando and Ashoka, once again from the viewpoint of the everyday man Of course, I'd also love to see them do something completely unrelated to the skywalker saga, too. If there's anyone who I think could make a fresh, original story with all the worldbuilding necessary to stand on its own, it's the writers of Andor

Andor is everything I love about star wars in a show, as a fan of empire at war and loving the regular people in the galexy

Andor's arrest reminds me of the first Zorro film when the noble Alejandro asks where the Don found so many people to work his gold mine and we get this from the captain with a smile: "Anywhere we wanted." It was a perfect remark describing the Don's willingness to do evil for his dream. Many of those workers were innocent yet the system was willing to turn a blind eye so that the Don had his manpower to mine that gold. And, once he had it, it was planned for the workers to die with the mine's destruction, so as to remove any trace the Don was mining what never belonged to him. Putting this in context with Andor's situation, construction of the Death Star was kept secret from the Imperial Senate so as to avoid any unnecessary political strife. Therefore it was simply necessary to outsource its construction in a variety of underhanded ways to meet deadlines that would never happened without them. Honestly, it wouldn't have surprised me in the least if the real reason those prison labour camps were offshore was because the Empire intended to sink them so as to cover its tracks, once the remaining prisoners onboard outlived their usefulness.

In a way, the getting randomly sent to prison is there to explain how the Empire doesn't care who gets sent to prison, as long as someone takes the fall for a crime.

Isn't it sad that they broke down both Boba and Kenobi to give us this?

I actually really liked how Cassian was arrested because up until that point, he was completely indifferent to the idea of rebellion against the Empire. Getting arrested and jailed for nothing gave him the push he needed to start fighting for something other than personal gain. Even with all he's been through, he's been lucky enough to dodge the Empire at every turn up until that point, and he doesnt even get charged for any of the crimes that he's previously committed. It's the perfect show of how unfair the system was.

The show is gold. I’ve watched it seven times now. It’s that amazing of a show.

One of the biggest things I love about this show is the environments and how it looks. I haven’t seen a Star Wars project look this good since the prequels. Fucking THANK YOU for actually using on location, real sets. Fucking thank you for not using the volume. It was driving me crazy how bad that shit looked. It’s so refreshing to see something Star Wars related that doesn’t look like a fucking fan film and actually looks like a real, natural fucking place. Thank you for making look as though it was made by real, professional, filmmakers (which it clearly is). FUCKING THANK YOU!!!!

One of the things I loved about Andor was how it showed the precarity of living under the thumb of the empire, not only for the little guys but also for the actual imperial goons and officers. Everyone, the bureaucrats/apparatchiks/security officers even the senators are all trying to keep their head down and out of the line of sight of this awful destructive machine of tyrannical control. I also liked the way Syril was presented as a fool who honestly bought into the Imperial/corporatist BS, and who repeatedly keeps being disappointed by the very system he was fully committed to upholding. I was almost rooting for him to have a political awakening more than Cassian. I hope they have something interesting in store for the character.

I was hoping the Obi-Wan series would be more like this series. There were a few times while watching each episode of Andor that I thought the creators put so much time and care into actually writing this and developing a high level screenplay. It's a slow burn for sure but it's top quality, whether it's Star Wars or not. Another thing to note is the excellent musical score throughout. My conclusion was that Star Wars can be defined by two basic categories. the movies revolve around the Jedi and their affairs and battles. Rogue One + Andor + Bad Batch show the everyday world and regular people and their struggles against the tyranny the Jedi are fighting at the top level. The Clone Wars + Rebels series are a bridge between the two. I watched the series with a couple of friends. One was a woman who knew practically nothing about Star Wars. She likes Hallmark type stuff, with happy endings and little to no violence. She cringed and hid her eyes and even walked away a few times. But she stuck it out and by the end she was fully invested in the story and characters. Again, she knows almost nothing of Star Wars. This was basically her introduction to the world. Now she's curious about other Star Wars shows, and we'll probably have her watch Rogue One next since it'll follow Andor nicely and be a good set up for the original trilogy.

Agreed. I loved this show because it contains what ‘Star Wars’ has always lacked: Intellect, subtlety, lean and sharp dialogue, layers, lived-in settings, NO ABSOLUTES. Nothing else to add that you didn’t cover, Emperor Sheev.

I'm actually really proud of myself that I watched all five hours of the Kenobi videos... It's actually some pretty good advice on how to avoid bad writing. Huh. I should probably check Andor out. I've been getting a lot of mixed responses from people who have watched it

Plot critique critique: Aliens "randomly" taking Andor back to Niamos was confusing on first watch. But they lay it all out: The aliens are fishing, they say that the prison ruined the water. Andor asks for a ride to Niamos, a water planet, so the fisherman are like "might as well give him a ride and fish there!" But this video is great, Andor is awesome and I love your work - keep it up, amigo!

This is the Star Wars show I was least interested in going in, to the extent that I waited like a month until it was finished to watch it and I almost didn’t even watch it at all. And it ended up being my favorite Star Wars show by far

Great review. Great show. I admit l skipped it even being a huge fan of Rogue One. Finally watched it and was just blown away how good it is. One thing l feel strongly is this timeline of Star Wars is the chosen one. The Empire, Vader still alive in his prime out there somewhere, the Episode IV uniforms is so rich and beloved. So much potential here l cant wait for season 2.

andor is a start for a darker star wars projects like the story of darth bane, maybe a tv series about palpatine and plaguies, something with evil protagonist

9:17 The original backstory for Andor was that he was from a Separatist world and his father was hung by Republic troops rather than Imperial ones. When Andor said that, he was including his time fighting for the CIS, because the Republic and Empire are basically the same thing to most people in the Galaxy, with the Republic having been more corrupt and pretentious while the Empire became more openly ruthless and authoritarian than its predecessor.

If you think that the biggest thing we learn about the Empire this season is that they're "not all bad guys" I don't think you understand this show as well as you think you do, considering some of the worst crimes they've ever committed on screen happen in this show. The greatest thing this show does is that it shows just how terrifying the Empire really is, and how soul crushing life under a fascist dictatorship can be for the people just trying to live their lives.

I agree with everything you said. I’m glad that we finally got good Star Wars content. I’m also in the same boat in that I have zero expectation for any of the other SW content coming out within the next year or two except Andor. I think after season 2 comes out, I’ll be done with Star Wars with it being the cherry on top of my headcanon as I continue to ignore everything else Disney has produced.

Did you see the post-credits scene ? That's why they have to send people to prison/slavery under any pretext.
