He’s my favorite. Over everyone else including Eminem. Elevators is one of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion. He’s just different. His accented, gorgeous southern flow and his unorthodox cadence and switch flow, his incredible, metaphoric and poetic, philosophical lyrics, then he’ll switch to straightforward bars with stellar vocabulary, and alliteration for days which are all just part of what he does in spectacular fashion w/ a skill set that’s second to none. His unique storytelling ability, his eclectic mind and unique perspective, his creativity in mixing jazz and classic r&b sounds with hip hop all while being a multi instrumentalist and composer, makes him the hip hop equivalent of Prince IMO. He’s distinctive, a nonconformist, a true artist. He’s a lyrical and musical genius, which is a word I use exceedingly sparingly. But in the case of Andre, it’s 💯 appropriate and earned. Just love him. LOVE him. Miss Outkast a lot. The genre needs Andre. He’s truly unique, a master of his craft, and one of a kind. Hopefully he’ll return some day. ATLiens FOREVER ❤️

The first rap song I heard was 'Hey Ya!' on some evening TV show in Sweden. I was probably 6-7, and it was so stuck in my head that I knew exactly where I had heard it when I got to 17-18, got into rap, and stumbled over it again. “Flipper didn’t hold his nose” is likely a reference to how a dolphin that had played Flipper in the t.v. show became depressed and according to her trainer, committed suicide in his arms . Seems like commentary on the consequences of capturing and keeping a highly sentient critter. The dolphin did the only thing thing she had a choice over. Since the only way he has to make a difference is to open his mouth and say what he has to say, even if the consequences are severe. Like if he kept his head down and did what he’s told, he could make it by longer. But that’s no kinda life

Hey bro, appreciate you. Normally when I see a vid on here is 25min, I’m like “uh”… that’s long but man… this was in-depth, eye-opening and reflective. I’m a product of the hood (Cape Flats, Hood in Cape Town, South Africa) and this breakdown and lyrics slowed me to reflect on the environment I came from to me relative ascendency to where I am now in life. But more how can we as those who rose out of that environment can guide those that’s coming after us. I agree with you “don’t settle for what ain’t yours”… that is a layered line/bar. Sheet… André is one of thee lyricists but also how to translate it on a track and cause us to relate and understand. Keep it up bro…”I have so much to say” after listening to this. Peace and blessings brother 👊🏾
