While grieving my dad , I found this beautiful song. My parents are from Romania - I was born in the United States of America. We have this instrument at home and occasionally he would blow into it a melody. He loved playing instruments and loved listening to beautiful melodies. This piece brought tears - I cried. I'm not sure if he ever heard this but in my heart, I know he would have loved it as much as I do.

We call it the Romanian Nai. It’s one of my favourite and the Caval Flute .Romania has many beautiful traditions and customs. When I was little my mom used to make me dance Paparuda to make it rain when it was dry. So many beautiful memories keeping our traditions and then I moved abroad and miss every single day Romania.

@@Divinekillerash Because the author of the composition Hansi knew nothing about Romania. That's why he never even gave a concert in Romania in the 70s. I'm not even surprised at him. There are many comments similar to yours. The reason is that the author of the commentary thinks that Zamfir is also the author of the Lone Shepherd. I thought so myself. When I got the piano sheet music, the author was James Last. The piano teacher explained it to me. Today I have to state that she had enormous knowledge during the totalitarian regime without PCs and the Internet.

I am from Pakistan and 47 year man. I listen this beautiful performance in my childhood. I mean in late 80s. When I was just 10 year old. But this performance is still in memories. Music has no boundary and language its multi lingual represting all segment of the society at same time with same feeling. Hence it is very Spectacular & heart touching indeed.

He was faithful. i think his brothers were never with sheep. Because they were not faithful. So, jesai allowed only david to be shepherd., So, God see how faithful he was, then, from shepherd he got promoted to ISRAEL king. He ruled ISRAEL 40 years. During David ruled ISRAEL got zenith. Churra hermosas notas, pero me parece q el señor d la zampoña , nunca a soplado ese instrumento. Lo se en la forma d sus mejillas y sus labios. Ademas nunca un instrumento en vivo va a sonar tan limpio como en una grabacion , y esta es una grabacion.

I am 61 years old and I remember Mr. George Zamfir when I was at student at Seneca college. We went on a field trip to Wards Island in Toronto and I said to my friend, " I hear this beautiful flute music, where is it coming from?" I followed the sound and came to a fence and WOW WEE, there it was, a dream come true. God Bless George Zamfir. I love your music.

I guess everybody who was there that night were having flashback of their entite lifetime, memories about their loss one, their family, their childhood, everything that they had gone through were passing through their mind at that time. But the composer was James Last and I don´t think when composing it he was thinking of the pain, the history, the soul and the spirit of Romania, especially since he composed the melody before he met Gheorghe Zamfir.

@@goned_goose2950 Two reasons: he's not Romanian to play the traditional songs with the heart of the ancestors in his chest, and he's not as experienced as Zamfir. Two generations, each one with his own soul. One does not have to exclude the other but Zamfir's songs have been played in movies and around the world, live.
