Lesson learned: A Chiefs team in the playoffs that's kinda down is way better than any team you have faced all year, Ravens and Bills.
@teewhy6994
@teewhy6994 5 ай бұрын
One of the Chiefs' superpowers is their ability to scheme, and by the playoffs, they just have too much data to go on. They know what choices Lamar will make based on the formation they present, and they scheme to use those formations to exploit, because during the season, those plays just work, but now Spags has 16 games of data to make them not work. Mahomes is the better QB because he is as much X's and O's as Reid and whoever is the OC. Mahomes is like Brady in this important way. He is essentially the assistant head coach of the team. He leads on the field, he leads on the sideline, he leads in the locker room, and he leads when he is in the media. And he has the work ethic and personal dedication to back up any demands he has of his team.

As many mistakes they made that added up to a big frustrating day, they fumbled on a play trying to cross goal line and they were still down just by one score and trying to get to the ball back. But then added to the frustration which I called before it happened, that they were vulnerable to a long pass when they had them at 3rd down and a minute + left. Then boom, they let that WR get straight down the field and get that last 1st down.

@@Willworld.Probably a smart move on Lamar's part. He wasn't going to outrun Sneed or reach the sidelines. He no longer has QB protection. As a former DC, I taught my defenses to force the pass because 4 things can happen; three of them are in our favor (interception, sack, incomplete). So, look at it this way: if I keep running, 3 things happen. I get a few more yards; he knocks the ball out; he goes low into my legs legally to tackle and I might get injured. Slowing down and going down softly was a better decision when weighing a few yards vs turnover or injury.

I said in 2019 that Lamar would have a career arc similar to Michael Vick. He would win a ton of fantasy leagues but also have the same level of postseason success. That has proved to be more true every year. Last year he just skipped the playoffs to protect his contract, and that happened because he wasn't smart enough to hire an agent. Do you think Mahomes would ever sit out a chance to go to the Super Bowl over money, especially when having a pro negotiate for you means you just concentrate on football. My hot take? With good execution, the Ravens win that game. On offense, at least 10 points and probably more were there for the taking but squandered. The offensive mistakes didn't just take points off the board, they also cut drives short and interrupted the team's momentum. On defense, too many mistakes of discipline that kept Chiefs drives going and the clock ticking. You can see the result in the big discrepancy in time of possession. So - whatever one thinks about the game plan, all they had to do to win was avoid huge mistakes in execution. Not even perfection, or close to it - just avoiding big mistakes. How they could hold the Chiefs scoreless for the last half of the game and still lose is baffling.

The Ravens did Ravens things. Being from the NFC North they reverted to cheap shots after the whistle instead of physicality between the whistles. Textbook case of the Chiefs trolling the Ravens until the Ravens lost their sh*t. Chiefs are prize fighters who weren't intimidated by a school yard bully. Chiefs just had to jab them until the Ravens started throwing haymakers. Ravens anger was the 13th man on the Chiefs (the clock was the 12th).

The thing that has me shaking my head more than anything is why did that have Lamar attempting so many designed on-schedule bombs TO THE SIDELINES. As an outsider, it seemed to me the clear weakest part of his game, and it certainly was that day. What were there, 5? 6? overthrows on open receivers with no backfield pressure? Did they think they would surprise the Chiefs by going to a weakness? Were the WRs slower than they have been all year?

KC’s defense plan was to not let Lamar run up and down the field. Watch the tape. Every time Lamar scrambled there were three defenders tackling him. Stop Lamar from running and make him throw the ball and harass him which KC defense did. They got into his head. If there was no Lamar MVP talk he would have played better. He played hero ball, ie, catching his own pass and throwing into triple coverage. The defense played bully ball while Lamar played hero ball equals a loss.

Guys he was very close to winning it if it wasn't for the fumble in the endzone and a couple bad calls on the ravens defense. Despite horrible coaching and play calling the defense kept it close enough and he had key moments that could've resulted in at least a tie game. Ravens as a whole lost that game and frankly slandering Lamar is outdated when he's literally the only one on offense doing anything. They'd never slander any other QB as badly. They so desperately want Lamar to change the narrative that a dual threat unapologetically black QB can win the prize despite all the hate against him. Instead of calling lamar out, we should be calling out that unfair standards and expectations put on qbs like him
@teewhy6994
@teewhy6994 5 ай бұрын
Then he didn't deserve the contract. With him at QB, the Ravens have had their season low in points in the playoffs every year. But championship-caliber defenses will beat him every time. Guys who get that money are the reason their teams win. If you only want a QB that is just not the reason they lost, they are much cheaper to come by. I was absolutely more worried about playing Buffalo than the Ravens. I had no doubt Spags would bottle up Lamar and force mistakes.

I can't remember where I read it but they mentioned that Spagnola with his defense dictated what the Ravens did on offense and that's what great DC's do. No doubt some of it was self inflicted but the Chiefs d is legit and they were flying all over the place.

At the same time, I can't respect a coach that goes against everything him and his team stand for and are good at. This should be a fire-able offense for Harbaugh. He needs to go. If the Ravens played the same game they have all year long as far as scheme, they win this game. Harbaugh and everyone complicit in this game plan HAS to go. PERIOD.

The ravens didn’t run because they anticipated mahomes to continue scoring throughout the game. It’s hard to comeback just running the football. This game is 70% on Lamar Jackson and that’s coming from a day one Lamar fan. Lamar has proved that he can throw the ball with 200+ yard passing games with 3+ TD games comfortably while still utilizing his legs. Let’s just stop sugar coating the real reason ravens lost. Took too long in the pocket, did not take advantage of most scrabbling opportunities and played nothing like he did in the season.
