I watched that game as it happened that was truly one of the greatest moments in fucking sports history. That game was one of the greatest 76er victories in franchise history and I was on cloud 9. I hated the celtics I hated ML carr and Chris Ford , Ainge, Larry Bird I hated them and then only grew to love and respect them. That was the most dignified sports act in the history of the game That moment in time incapsulates what eighties basketball was all about , hard nose competition between men who played with respect and pride for themselves and the game. The reasons for the demise of the game are many and it starts with expansion and rule changes. Now we are left with a 3 point shooting contest that passes as NBA basketball.

JL I don’t know about that remember when they played the lakers for the NBA Championship in 1983 the Lakers was injury riddled among the big time injury’s was Big Game James Worthy and other injuries as well . Let’s be real they beat a depleted Laker team . I understand that is how it goes sometimes but Big Game James would have and could have made a difference and the other injuries the Lakers had . I’am a 76er fan & I loved Dr.j old school of course,but The lakers was not full strength .That is sorta kept quiet about that championship because most fans and people in general wanted Dr.j to win a Championship . It was emotional everyone was pulling for the 76ers.When they faced each other during the regular season the 76ers had no answer for Big Game James.
@scottdavidson70016 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Williams nice reply. if Moses is with Philly in 79-80 we beat Lakers in 6 games.
@emmanuelwilliams60046 жыл бұрын
Scott Davidson I can’t say that for sure or 100% .Moses may have been able to neutralize Kareem but yet we don’t know but let’s say they cancelled each other out.Now let’s focus on the rest of the ballers.Jamal Wilks destroyed the Sixers they had no answer for him in game six .For some reason Magic got all the headlines. Wilks had a monster game & the Sixers still had no answer for Magic and Magic being 6ft.9 in. His rebounding which fueled the lakers fast break was devastating for the Sixers and Norman Nixon out played Mo Cheeks all Series long .The lakers had a better bench as well.Michael Cooper & Spencer Haywood.& I know you remember Michael Cooper .The Lakers was faster and a better team all around they played better team ball than the Sixers .The Sixers relied on Dr.j to much & if Moses was there they would have only had 2 big guns the Lakers had 4 or potentially 5 big guns .break it down by position. I was born in the 60’s I’am old school I loved that era Sixers they were my favorite team & at that time with the most exciting player ever Dr.j . But even with Moses I think looking at how both teams played .I have to respectfully disagree.
@scottdavidson70016 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Williams I like chatting good ball. And of course I disagree. Here is the kicker....we can debate 80 Lakers team that won and I can debate 83 Sixers winning. But their mute points. The Sixers were entirely a different team with Moses in 83 than in 80 and 82. Especially offensive rebounding where they went from 23 in the league to number 1. More importantly their team defense as Bill Russell pointed out prior to game 4 of 83 finals....Sixers defensive so dominant. I simply don't think L.A. would beat them. Injuries or no injuries. Personally I think of all the Lakers teams I have seen the 81-82 was their best. Great time for basketball. Peace love dope.
@emmanuelwilliams60046 жыл бұрын
Scott Davidson There defense was dominant I will agree I do see where you are coming from .Even with that defense they were no match for a laker team without Kareem .The Lakers ran them off the court in that final game.And let’s get to that center match up .Moses was And is top 5 centers of all time but all around there is none better than “ Kareem “. Look at how both teams played out of offensive sets .If Dr.J had a off game the Sixers was in big trouble even with Moses .The Lakers could compensate for any of there star players if even two of them were having a bad game .Come on Man you know all around player for player and playing style offense & defense all being factors the Lakers win in 7 then again they probably could do it in six again.Please talk about the match ups how are you gonna stop The Magic Man -Silk Jamal Wilks -Stormin Norman Nixon -& TheBig Fella “Kareem”.Like I said Those 76er teams were my favorite teams also but I knew the Lakers had them beat also the lakers were better coached .Sorry I for got to hit you with that one Billy Cunningham was not a very good coach at all .

I watched Andrew Toney from his first minutes in the NBA, what is never mentioned is his defense. 6'3", Toney was strong, quick and committed. Toney was a mix of Joe Dumars/Super John Williamson. Not a whole lot of sauce on his game, quick moves and a kill, no hop scotch dance. Toney was shat on by the 76er front office when he got injured, it was absolutely terrible how he was alienated and scapegoated in Philly by management and the press. There is no ring in 1983 without Malone OR Toney. I was at the parade on Broad street and in the Vet. He was a very, very high IQ player who came into the league, game one and played like a man, a vet. The closest player to Andrew Toney is Joe Dumars. This is 32 year old Doc, hardly Prime Doc. Philly played the Larry Legend Celtics in the playoffs in 1980,1981 and 82. Philly won two out of three, should have been 3 out of 3. NO MOSES MALONE. Caldwell Jones, Darryl Dawkins and Doc BEAT Larry, Kevin and Robert. Doc was 30 yrs old the first series, old Doc beat Larry 2 out of 3. This 1982 version of Doc was NO WHERE near who he was in 1977 against Portland. Had that 1977 version Doc been playing it would have been Philly over Boston 3-0 in series instead of 2-1 without a doubt. 1977 Doc was nasty

It’s not talked about anymore but, there were problems with the 80’s Celtics teams, especially in 1982,1983 and 1985. I can’t put my finger on it 100% but, there were personality clashes, selfishness, and issues with head coaches. There were also injuries. They were better than the Sixers in ‘82 and lost. The Milwaukee sweep in ‘83 was a disgrace. They were going to give up in 1984 vs the Lakers after being humiliated in game 3 until, Bird ripped them a new one in the press conference. They didn’t exactly leave it all out on the floor in the ‘85 finals loss after theIr Memorial Day massacre victory. It seemed like the Lakers wanted it more. Bird has said he thought after the ‘81 title that they were going to win 5 or so in a row. He said they had that much talent. I tend to agree. He also stated right in that same breath that they just didn’t do the things necessary to win multiple championships in a row. Obviously I wasn’t there but if bird said it I would tend to agree with it. If Len Bias made better choices in life I believe the Celtics collect two more chips in the 80’s.
