That is SO smart. It also eliminates the slight bend I've found in almost every aftermarket alternator bracket. Sometimes the bend is almost unnoticable, but every time you take a pry bar to tighten the alternator, you bend that flimsy bracket a little more, eventually putting the alternator pulley slightly out of whack with the rest of the belt line. This upgrade will keep the alt pulley exactly plumb with the crank and water pump pulleys, which should extend the life of the belt.

@@AndyKruseChannel oh yeah my uncle painted the throttle linkage blue just with everything else from a 90s build so now since I’m bad with gift ideas to give to my fiancé I just give her a list of car parts and websites for Christmas and other events like that just watched the throttle linkage as we speak and love the design

Man my 65 with the 70 water pump makes the alternator bracket all kinds of weird. I actually welded a nut on to the front of the water pump just to add more threads to the stud. Maybe this is something I should look into and see if it will work on mine

Yeah, I know there are a handful of alternator attachment configurations out there, but I haven't been able to quite figure out how to make a one size fits all linkage setup. I think this will work on a lot of cars, but I may need to offer other layout options as I figure them out. :)

What size belt are you running?

It's part number 7400 from O'Reillys Auto Parts. I think it's 40-13/16" diameter, 3/8" wide.

I want to but powder coating costs (due to the quantities I am working in) put this part at a price that begins to be less appealing, despite the nice finish. :)

Excellent. Not having problem but mine is all most all the way adjusted not sure what type of ear I have on my alternator going to look though. Edit... Turns out I am a square. I do have more adjustment it is greasy and oily I can not see what I am looking at. Ha ha ha.

Yeah, running out of adjustment is part of the reason why I have this adjustable linkage. Not everyone has an issue getting the belt tight enough, but it seemed easier to get the belt tight with this turnbuckle. :)

Genius, Andy! Nice work. Have been thinking about a similar application for my A/C compressor to keep tension on the belt. Would love to email you some photos of it and see what you think about a similar type bar because I’m told the compressor belt in my setup constantly comes loose. Thanks so much!

Yeah. these kinds of parts seem simple and I bet you could get something to work with your setup. The advantage of those rod ends is the can keep your part in tension, but the mounting points don't have to be perfectly in alignment. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel where should I source the adjustable linkage from, or maybe a better question is there a particular 'grade' of linkage I should look for? I want to make sure that whatever I try to use will be able to hold up against the stress/pressure of the belt. Again, can't thank you enough...

@@banks412gmailcom Due to the size of the hardware you're likely to choose, you'll be fine for the strength of the linkage. You can look up 'turnbuckle' or something like 'threaded tubing' as I didn't find a naming convention for this type of hardware that was unanimous everywhere I looked. This also leads to why I had to have the center section custom made, no one sells the exact size I need at a price that I can sell these at (lots of custom and expensive stuff out there). :)
