I watched this entire series as an 18 year old in '82 my senior year, I loved this Brewers team and the '82 World Series was a classic against St. Louis, I was saddened to hear about the passing of Bruce Sutter, He was awesome. 🙏

Viewed this from the LF bleachers w/a couple friends. Memory that will stay intact forever. Thanks much for posting, I don't believe I ever saw the postgame interviews. Harvey Kuenn wasn't known as a great in-game strategist, but the '82 WS may never have been a Milwaukee memory if not for his decision to insert Marshall Edwards late in the game in CF.

Interesting booth with Jim Palmer and Earl Weaver together along with Keith Jackson (3:43). After this series, Jackson would not be back on the MLB until 1986. Bob Uecker’s last appearance as part of the ABC Baseball team (2:51:14). In 1985, he’s George Owens on ABC’s “Mr. Belvedere” Sure today there are MLB Playoff games on ABC or ESPN, but it’s just not the same. Thanks for these posts and showing real ABC Sports Baseball.

This series I believed, forced Major League Baseball to change their policy pertaining to local television stations broadcasting the League Championship Series. Before 1984, local TV stations in the participating teams' markets were allowed to produce and broadcast their own separate telecast to go along with the national broadcast on either ABC (usually in even numbered years beginning in 1976) or NBC (naturally, in odd numbered years, when ABC was otherwise, in-line to broadcast the World Series). The Atlanta Braves wanted TBS to be allowed to do their own "local" broadcast of the 1982 NLCS. But Major League Baseball was worried that since TBS was a cable superstation (meaning, that it could be viewed in places in the United States outside of Atlanta), they were already in effect, producing their own "national" telecasts. So MLB went to a Philadelphia federal court to ban TBS from being allowed to produce their won separate telecasts to compete with ABC's.

Angels acquired several All-Star/MVPs & contributors that had past successes: Jackson, Carew, Lynn, Boone, Foli & DeCinces. Plus Don Baylor, who won the AL MVP for the Angels in 1979. '82 ALCS was a clash of 2 stacked teams & appropriately went the distance.

The NL series was plagued by rain that year. Game one was postponed one day and after that game two was also postponed by rain. If the series had gone the full five games the World Series would have been delayed as the NLCS would have ended on Tuesday

Imagine having Rollie Fingers for 85% of the season, then losing him, then somehow navigating that Angels lineup and pushing St Louis to the brink without him. Brewers pen were the unsung heroes of that October, but it seems like they ran out of gas.

I was a junior in high school when this series took place. The NFL was on strike so this was must see TV. Angels taking a 2-0 series lead I thought the Angels would finally get to the World Series, but not to be as the Brewers will come back to win 3 straight to go to their 1st and only WS to date. The playoff format was different then compared to now.

How is it that Milwaukee played 3 in a row at home but games 3, 4, & 5? That says too me they had a better record but may have only played 1 game at home if they lost game 3. I was 13 years old and this is when I became a baseball fan. Harvey Wallbangers!!!

He does. The best Vukovich role of course was as Clu Haywood in "Major League," leading the league as Harry Doyle said in every offensive category, including "nose hair." Though it seemed Vuke always led whatever league he was playing in that category, not just cinematically. Our man turns 70 this Thursday, October 27.
