This won´t fly well with die hard fans, but... The Mandalorian is beginning to suck. I think everyone wanted it to be real good and save the franchise, but the truth is only the first 2 episodes were good. The last 4 were fluff, just short stories that brought nothing to the main plot. And because the episodes are so small, these short stories don´t work because there is not enough time to flesh it out. So we end up with one dimensional characters, short action sequences, and not much else. Sorry folks, but the way it´s looking now, the Mandalorian is a flop. They spent the last episodes on bullshit when they should be working on and developing the main plot. Most of you will not agree right now, but you will as time goes by. It just takes a while for it to sink in. We have to face the fact that the Star Wars we all loved is gone...

Return of the Jedi's ending reconciled the Skywalker's narrative perfectly. Fans wanted Kenobi, but luckily its going live action instead of a 2 hour convoluted anthology film. In everything Yost writes, everyone's incompetent. The stupidity on display was insulting & annoying. It's like watching a Jerry Lewis movie where everyone is acting as smart as Jerry. It doesn't work. While Mando doesn't get a lot of idiotic lines, he still can't figure out how to lock a single cupboard on his own ship. The flight deck Mexican Standoff was moronic, dragged out for "laughs" that aren't there and the only logical conclusion inevitably occurs. It was only there to show how stupid every character is. The dialogue was incomprehensibly moronic. Who writes like this? When I saw the credits, it suddenly made sense.

Yet I didn't even realise he wrote this until the end credits and was cringing the entire way through at the constant barrage of stupid. He can plot a story, but his dialogue choices are just appalling for me. You can't have people being unironically utterly imbecilic and/or death defyingly clumsy most of the time, only for them to suddenly and temporarily be afflicted with competence, not because they've been on a journey of growth, but simply to suit the plot. I put it down to what allowed others to gloss over the stupidity is what exemplified it for me - the guest cast. I'm a fan of them all, individually. Yet I loathed them all here. Well, not Clancy. He worked fine as dumb muscle. The rest didn't work for me, for reasons typified by Bill Burr. Everyone's gushing over Bill Burr being Bill Burr here, but that's utterly immersion breaking for me. He's unbelievable as a mercenary. He'd be more likely to be a contractor getting screwed over on the Death Star who launches into a rant about HR's totalitarianism, maybe capped of by some impotent "workplace violence", rather than someone who's an experienced thief & killer, yet can't hear a heavily armored Mando clomping up behind him in a silent corridor. Which is a bad joke in itself. His lines read like jokes he'd make about the show, not lines that work in it. There's no suspension of disbelief. The stupid absolutely is epitomised by the mexican standoff. The whole point of the job is to be undetected, but the badass whose religion is literally war and survival of the fittest balks at executing an eyewitness? Ridiculous. It was all a sad, pathetic build up to have one character demonstrate their ruthlessness wrapped in a feeble attempt for laughs and tension. Yost can't decide if he's making The Three Amigos or The Departed, so he ends up with the cast and dialogue approach for the former and jams it into the scenarios of the latter. It's jarring, stupid and a hamfisted hurling of fan service easter eggs and instantly recognisable guest stars don't compensate for that with me. It would have played far more realistically if they saw him from a distance, seated on the bridge with his back to them, and then argued about killing him, with Mando wanting to tranq dart him or cold cock him from behind, put a bag on his head and stuff him in a locker. One he hopefully figured out how to actually lock, since he can't manage it with any of the ones on his own ship. That's a plausible approach, as is having her end the debate with execution. What's not plausible is drawing weapons on a crew that outnumbers you three to one to protect an eyewitness you cannot possibly afford to let live, or buy them time to summon reinforcements, first by trying to talk them out of it, then threatening the rest of your own "team". Why didn't he apply a few ounces of pressure to the device already in his hand? They wouldn't've even noticed. Oh, that's right - stupidity and brain damage. The plot device the entire episode can't work without.

I agree with you on the horrible writing, and screenplay; but disagree with your idea of the mandalorians psyche at this point in the arc. Especially after what chapter 4 sanctuary?
