He only got into a shootout because the IG unit wandered in, guns blazing. If he just lands his ship 50ft away from the place, they'll be ready for him, and he won't be able to complete his mission. On top of that, he didn't know what type of weaponry they had, and landing too closely could get him shot down. This caution is shown to be valid, because they have a hovering blaster minigun.

He landed far away because he only knew the last known coordinates, the general direction and not the exact location. Showing his concern for money we know he has limited funds so not using his ship for scouting would save money on fuel and also prevent them from spotting him and maintaining an element of surprise. Nick's character was there to help him reach the final destination sooner than later. and given how his character said the terrain is rough and only riding will get there, we could assume there are not many good landing spots. *edit* So the whole riding the monster bit may have been forced as an additional throwback to the holiday special (a 40 year old cartoon) where boba fett is riding a dinosaur-like creature (I think its the creature that nick's character said his ancestors use to ride) The do you want to go in warm or cold wasn't a reference to carbonite, it was just a typical western dead or alive line (as in a cold corpse) The Droid had a different contract (Maybe from a different contractor). He had a kill on sight contract and the Mandalorian had a capture contract.

This show makes me have hope for Star Wars again.

I've no idea how Alex missed the fact that the Mandalorian can barely afford fuel for his ship. Of course he's not gonna fly it all over a planet's surface... it doesn't make sense to waste money.

I love the scene where the old wise man is teaching him. It’s a moment of the Mandalorian being susceptible and not this pure bad ass. The old man says “you are mandalorian” as he has high expectations for these people. The scene where he had to tame the animal was brilliant. Showed lots of emotion and made the mandalorian question his capabilities.

Does the Mandalorian find all upgrades on missions or does he also have to buy lootboxes to progress further?

When he said I can take you hot or cold. That equals Dead or alive. Had nothing to do with Carbonite. That was a ridiculous criticism of the show just because you misunderstood the scene.

Joe just gets this episode, You have the guy explore his ship and asks all the questions soooo the audience can learn about the character with it being to in your face. We learned he doesn't take off his mask, he has a lot of bounties, and a little about the layout of his ship. I think other joe and alex just wants to watch the beginning and end of movies and don't care about the journey. This was a 10/10 for me episode. Oh, also, he doesn't like droids because of the clone wars, they killed a lot of his kind.

I can’t believe they referenced the Holiday Special and seeing the Salacious Crumb aliens in cages and on a spit really made me laugh.

This is the most I've enjoyed Star Wars since Rogue One.

Alex nailed it when he said he dosent jump any anything star wars anymore. But this show is amazing. I hope this carries over into future films. Also seeing John Favreau's and Taika Waititi's names attached made me happy.

Just started watching it, but I think that reason the droid thought it was dead only contract is because they were hired by two different people.

Bringing him in "hot or cold" was dead or alive. He only let him get to the back of the ship so he literally walked himself up to the cryo pod, no fus, no hassle.

Alex, regarding the "bathtube" moment, actually promotes good character development for the Mandalorian because it shows that he really was just giving his captor a chance to use it, showing his humanity, but also that he's still no-nonsense when people cross him.

When the Mandalorian asked his bounty if he wanted to be brought in hot or cold I thought he put his hand on is weapon. I took cold meaning dead at that time.

When the droid said the contractor wanted the baby dead, I took that to mean he was sent by someone else, not the empire.

The thing that impressed me the most is the attention to detail and quality of the sets, direction of photography and effects (which were damn seamless - that ship looked real). This first episode of the show looked like a feature film. I'm going to go so far as to say it looked better than the new Disney films by quite a bit. There was a bit of wonky stuff such as the weird mustache guy "I have spoken". His lip sync in that mask was bad. But overall this show is awesome.

The bounty was issued from two different parties. One was under the table, one through the guild. Whoever wanted to target dead is at odds with the imperial’s objective. However, my theory is that there are in fact three parties involved; two that want the baby alive, one that would have it killed to deny the two parties who want it alive. The imperials would take the baby alive but also have it killed to deny the other interested party.

A better option, if Mandalorian is basically the main reason for someone thinking about buying a subscription, is to wait until the first season is done and then buy Disney+. Binge watch it, there will obviously be way more content by that time, and you don't have to keep it for more than a month. Also, they might be giving out free trials at some point, so you can possibly watch all you want for free.

Honestly feel like most people aren’t realized that he didn’t land the ship by the bounty because he didn’t know where the bounty was. He landed where the last known location was and just happened to be by nicks character, so the mandolorian had no choice but to do what he asked to find the target. At least that was my understanding of it.

Working solo, the LAST thing you want to do is alert your quarry by landing at their compound. Ships aren't cheap, nor is all the BH gear on it. We have to assume their scanners can see most ships approaching the planet. You see an uninvited ship coming your way, approaching your remote hideout, you can run, or set up air defense. But... If you see some random ship, landing at a town, you are hard pressed to tell if it's anything but regular civilian traffic. Working as a pair or squad, sure, you might risk hotzone insertions as your pilot can back off to safe distance. But you still alert your quarry to your intent. Also if the specific target isnt there, you have played your hand. Either his buddies tell him, or their corpses do. Nope. Better to do it the hard way.

He lets him walk around because he knows there's nothing the guy can do. It's like saying the most badass gunslinger would never tell another to draw first. No, the most badass gunslinger would do that because he knows just how good he is and when he does that, he tells us just how good he is.

What i liked was that the bounty at the end, it was something cool. It wasnt what i was expecting, but it at least is something. Take notes rian johnson, this show didnt “subvert expectations” by having his bounty be nothing

Episode one was a 10 imo. The whole way through I was excited, the entire time I couldn't help but feel that this was far far the best thing made under the Disney Star Wars brand. Even if the rest of the series is terrible this episode is worth the watch, to remind people what Star Wars can do.

From the beginning of the show, up until his meeting with Nick's character, the Mandalorian was essentially an unspoken, cold, bounty hunter. The scene with Nick allows the writers to present a "human" side to the main character. It was a very important scene.

The whole thing with the sandstone pillar surviving the fire vs the metal door being cut open has to do with conductivity. The door, being metal, is extremely conductive, whereas most forms of sandstone is pretty unconductive.

30:30 Yeah I don't get it either, however I kind of assumed that there was someone putting out bounties to terminate the baby yoda BECAUSE the empire mercenaries wanted it. Unfortunately, at episode 3 and we still don't know if that's the case. I'm wondering if this IG droid does get repaired or something later on and meets with Mando again because he or a droid of the same model is on the cover of the series.
