I remember being interested in the previous version of this game back in the day but never took the plunge since I wasn't quite into importing games yet. "Phantom Breaker" fits that oddly specific mold of "VN developer decides to make a fighting game" that was quite prominent a decade ago. Nitroplus had "Nitroplus Blasterz", Aquaplus had "Aquapazza", BaseSon had "Koihime Enbu", 07th Expansion had "Umineko: Golden Fantasia", So on and so on. They've kind of changed focus towards mobile and online games now with stuff like "Million Arthur: Arcana Blood" and "GranBlue Fantasy Versus". I don't know, kind of an interesting thing to examine, especially in how prominent each given media style is in each timeframe. But yeah, "Phantom Breaker" is the Mages fighting game. Though kind of an oddity since it's primarily made up of original characters instead of a cast made up of their IPs, only Rimi (from "Chaos;Head") and Kurisu (from "Steins;Gate") getting included as guest characters. Unfortunately, this is another fighter that was doomed to, well, fail. An aesthetic the Western FGC doesn't like, autocombos, no rollback, strange mechanics, etc. And since it's a decade old game now, it's outdated. I mean, heck, even this review had issues along those points. Not to mention that crappy, cringe-fest of a trailer only turned the game into a mockery. It was dead before it even released. And when it did release, yeah, it was super dead. Opened with "mostly negative" reviews on Steam, only managing to reach "mixed" now. Oh well, I was still interested in the game so I got it. Though the physical copy being sold on LRG's which I'm still waiting on. Getting it late isn't a problem since, well, it's not like the online will be popping anytime soon, or ever.

This game is so fun. I do have Phantom Breaker: Omnia on PS5. It is reminds me of Arc System Works’ fighting games such as BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. Someday, I hope Arc System Works will develop new fighting game based on Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

Would love to get a review from you on the battle beaver ps4 smart pad. There are a few mods they do on the d pad which look interesting. I'm looking for an all in one gamepad that works well with fighting games as well as other genres. I don't mind using a fight stick but it makes gaming feel like work. I haven't found anything that replace the old logitech cordless rumble pad 2, which has the best d pad for fighting gamed plus extremely low latency wireless but the analog sticks are rubbish.

Ps and steam both has for 40.00 (cad) For when the guys are over and we want to boot up a fun fighter we have games like Chaos code Omen of sorrow. Wu tang vs Shaolin 2. and battle of the gods available for way less 40.00 is kind of a tall order. However if I do see it for 10 bucks. Isee myself buying it.

this game needs actual lobbies, and to fix its control reading, it takes resetting the game a few times, changing my stick from ps4 to pc, tweeking steam options to get it to read properly by chance for some reason. lobbies are just 1v1, no spectating. most esports games arent really super hard to play or deep. this games kind of simplified but weird and more fun than the popular stuff for sure. i'd choose koihime for a game everyones on even footing though. you just have to play any fg, and you already know how to play neutral in that game, and most combos outside fatal counters are just 5b>special. usually just take most people a few minutes to learn that game, and you are on even footing.

The sprites or whatever you want to call them are real low budget looking. They should have stuck with the retro pixel look of the other games in the series.
