I'm legitimately curious why it even costs so much for something that doesn't perform well enough or bringing compelling parts choices to the table. My guess is that it's sold with unrealistic profit margins.

The parts are around 1000-1200 so the margins aren't as crazy as you think. I just wish it was more accurate for the weight.

TiN, while very lubricious, is a microscopically very rough, and depending on how your chrome is done it can be the same. That's probably a good part of why those gas rings burned out so fast.

I have 1 of the old Rainer Arms uppers made by Mega Machine that I have over 20k rds through. It's more similar in overall dimensions to the VLTOR MUR1. I got it originally because I was never able to get the VLTOR upper because it was never in-stock. It's on an AA build with the old but nice DD FSP 9.5 handguard and Centurion Arms chf cl barrel. This is the 2nd barrel in this upper as the old 1 was keyholing badly at 18k.

Wild that regardless of the chrome lined carrier the gas rings wore out prematurely… I wonder if their interior surface finish is just trash or their gas rings are of poor quality.

If the owner wanted a side adjustable gas block there are many many more quality options such as PRI. Also that BAT charging looks perfect for those larping in their onesies and this don’t have to worry about snagging it on anything🤣 Curious who the OEM for this barrel.

I have the mystic black and when I took it out of the package the Lil fucker slipped out of my hand like it was covered in grease. Been great for 2k or so rounds with no problems yet, I put sprinco stuff in all my bolts though

@@PureCountryof91 the main issue that many have with TiNi is that it surface hardens too much in many cases cause fractures in parts leading to failures. Cryptic Coatings seems to have figured this out along with polishing the bcg before baking in TiNi coatings.

Whomever told you fluting would “twist” rifling does not understand basic metallurgic principles. Mill cutting while yes pulls metal upon cut occurs at a micron scale. Any issues to potentially occur due to fluting on rifling would firstly and promptly be from improper machine use, and secondly theoretically the low spots on the fluting (the flute itself) could create hard spots over time which would result in inconsistent rifling decompression harming accuracy.

Not twist the rifling. But you know how the barrel whips under recoil, the idea is that spiral flutes can change the harmonics and how it whips. I'm not an expert just relaying info

ktactical says the rail is 7075... it's not. The HG is 6061 but the nut is 7075. Dude doesn't know what he's working with.

TiN is absolutely NOT a top tier coating for firearm parts - *ESPECIALLY* for a bcg. School of The American rifle or whatever the channel name is covers this in detail. Avoid TiN just as you need to avoid nickel boron. This should be near common knowledge at this point.

@FocusTripp We need the academic nerds to figure out the science behind what will improve our guns. Chrome or NP3 for me. I just can't go back to phosphate, the 90 second cleaning and being able to run bone dry has me spoiled. I do have several nitrided and dlc coated bcg's leftover from years past but I'm slowly getting them out of service every time there's a sale or used Sionics bcg for sale. Zero regrets. I'm not a cleaning freak but rather the exact opposite - so when a rifle goes down due to being disgustingly dirty I like knowing I can get it back running stupid quickly with just a cloth and some lube.

@@FocusTripp Are you talking about wedgelock on that Slr? Or beloved MEGA/Hodge/triarc/SOLG wedgelock handguard with solid SS pin half in upper & half in handguard, a true anti-rotation handguard? If you can put upper in clamp in vise and support then barrel. Handguard all torqued to spec and plenty blue loctite then give side edge of top rail of handguard smack with medium rubber mallet right at side of top rail and if it rotate even slightest is acceptable to you? That's big fail to me.
