My 150 pound (68 kilo) female great Pyrenees tried to adopt every stray kitten in the neighborhood and is the reason I have four of the kitten. She was the sweetest dog ever.

@@brianwesley28 neither of those. She just saw the kitten in our yard one day, ran over to it and pretty much adopted it. She just loved making friends with everything.

My Pyrenees is the most lovable and mentally slow love bug in the world!! His response time to commands can be measured in hours not seconds… but as a threat deterrent he is awesome! He loves teeny tiny dogs and babies!

Mine, too. She even had a rat friend who came out of the ivy to meet with her. She was, though, specifically bred to ne both very gentle and to be a guardian. She's a mix called a Colorado Mountain Dog. She was aloof and dignified and didn't let people just walk up and touch him. She was a careful mix of maremma Dog, Kuvatz, Anatolian Shepherd, and Maremma dog. They're carefully bred to be family dogs, not to have drooly mouths, and to have a profound sense of guardianship toward helpless creatures. When she'd see a cat, she'd stand sideways and gaze off away from the cat, putting it at ease.

In real life, it takes 2 or more dogs to take on a bear. More like they will chase off a bear. They very rarely work alone.

My husband and I were camping on the edge of the Boise National Forest 2 weeks ago with my adult Great Pyrenees. The area we camped in is in bear country, and we woke one morning to the howling of a pack of wolves across the lake. The wolves were moving closer, but my Denali made his presence known with his huge powerful bark. It was amazing watching him work. He is a sweet loving family dog, but fierce protector of our family. Neither bear nor wolf entered our camp. We felt very safe with Denali on watch. ❤️ He has amazing instinct with strangers as well, and is a great judge of character.

Wolves aren't likely to enter an occupied camp. Bears are more unpredictable.

I have an 8 month old Great Pyrenees, he's 110 lbs and gentle as a lamb. He is giant, and he is my service dog. He is the best dog I have ever owned.

@@ebonysharee I also have two labs, I forgot to mention. My yellow lab (female) is 110 lbs of pure, unadulterated joy. She is like a steamroller of love. Biggest damn lab I have ever owned, and not an ounce of fat on her. When I brought my Pyr home from the rancher, she started producing milk and nursed him (with his little shark teeth) for another TWO MONTHS! She is about 10 lbs smaller than him right now. He just turned a year old and is about 120 right now. He still has some growing to do though, they grow till they're at least 2. My other black lab is much more normal sized, she's only 85 lbs. Lol. I also have a dog that I brought back from when I lived in South Korea, he was rescued from a dog meat farm, and my 14 year old shitzu who is the boss of them all. And 2 cats. Oy vey.

I have a male, 6 year old Great Pyrenees. It is true, this is a difficult, but loving breed. I went to great lengths to socialize mine as soon as possible. He was twice the size of all the other puppies when at puppy play... he just mowed them down. He is extremely smart. He trained fairly easily, tho only in short stints. He's been pretty much bulletproof with kids, and about 98% of adults. But man, are they STUBBORN. And yes... they're nocturnal... and tend to bark all night long... and if you want a Pyr to do something, there'd better be a treat in your hand. I've had SO many people say their next dog would be a Pyrenees... which I usually try to discourage. It takes two of us to properly care for a Pyrenees... and they CAN be unpredictable... you have to monitor body language closely. Mine is VERY weary of strangers in the house, and is also HIGHLY territorial- even while camping. Wonderful dog (properly trained), but a LOT of work as well.

People!!! What she said at the end of the video.... If you are not 100% prepared for getting one of the Caucasian shepherds, don't. They are wonderful dogs and the only breed I'll ever get but they are hours, days, weeks and years of work. Be aware. They will change your lifestyle. Just saying understand what you're getting into.

Years ago I watched a doc about a Russian super-max prison in Siberia. The soldiers patrolled the premises with Caucasian Shepherds, they claimed prisoners never tried escape or attacking guards for fear of the Shepherds. Coincidentally, my step-mother got a Great Pyrenees which became her hiking partner. An amazingly sweet dog, great with children, and she naturally tries to herd my little ones when we visit. That wonderful creature can’t stand being indoors though, she is very active and always wants to go, go, go!

We had the Great Pyrenees mountain dog, had him for 14 years and he was everything that you would come to expect of these dogs and the best guard dog I ever had, the best cuddle pie with my wife and myself but would give everything to protect and place everything on the line to do his job, and if he got the chance to kill a human if he had to? - yeah, I had seen him all revved up, I wouldnt want to see the outcome - he was a weapon

I love great pyrenees. I have 6. I train them to treat my family as the flock and to follow my family every where they go on our land. They are good enough to make me feel like my family would be safer with the dogs than my family would be if they carried a gun.

My pyres are crazy smart . And it's not about brute strength. They reason thier way thru issues . First they bark to scare things way . Then the confront , not engage ! And if it's people he is guarding then he will semi engage and try to get threat to follow him away from us . Lastly he will engage . I firmly believe he will give his life for those he protects . And he allways protects the weak . I am the boss in my house and my dog never want to cross me . But he will if my girl is involved. He knows she is weaker and he places himself between her and I. And dont for one second think that these dogs arent athletes . They are ! I take the pyrenees over the shepard because u get more for less work . If you didnt have to try to keep on you property they are amazing . But pyres are crazy about going walk about . I know a guy who's dogs go 5 miles down the road to guard a neighbors horses . And they are not welcome there ! Roflmao !

@@c4onmylip He is the boy in my avatar - we got him from a kill shelter when he was just on a year old - had no idea about these dogs so had to study up on them and yep, was exactly as they say these dogs are, he was my best friend, was was a great protector of my wife(no one could go near her and at night when I was at work, he wouldnt leave her side and was with us almost constantly or when we wernt at meetings or gatherings where dogs wernt alowed) we had a good size yard but he was walked virtually everyday - one thing he looked forward to, f*cking broke my heart when he left us, i still tear up just thinking about it - tore me apart, I loved him, he was my boy - but yes, he was that old, I have heard of one that was 17 but i dont know how true that was.

If a tree falls 100 miles away, a Pyr will bark at it. Our Pyr could differentiate my car from other cars and would start to cry for my attention when I was still a quarter mile away. I always had to see Thor first before seeing other members of my family. He never licked me but licked at me and believed that his place was in a family members lap. Once when a friend was visiting with her infant daughter, Thor laid down next to the child sleeping in her carrier keeping guard and gently nudging it to make it rock if the baby stirred. Thor was really an amazing member of my pack.

I own a Caucasian Shepherd. She is coming up to being 4 months old. Having owned many large breed dogs in the past I can tell you already that the Caucasian Shepherd is something completely different to any other breed. She is not the most agile of dogs but her speed of reaction up close is astonishing. Intelligent and hyper alert, she will no doubt grow into a formidable protector. You really do not need, or want to train them to protect you as it is already hard wired into their DNA. Amazing dogs but ones that really do need to be trained and socialised early on. The Pyrenees is not in the same league at all

@@binqilin5088 if you havent had and trained any other dogs yourself, id start with a different breed, as these are typically for experienced dog owners who know how to train more territorial/protective breeds. I want one too really bad but i went and got a pyrenees puppy. ive had spaniels but this will be a good challenge

I want a job going around petting and loving on dogs. We have a lot of Great Pyrenees around here with having a lot of livestock along with coyotes (a lot), cougars (very rare), bears (very rare), foxes (low due to coyotes), and mountain lions (average for their range). They are escape artists, especially if they don't have a job. They enjoy having a job to do. I guess because of the commonness of them, a lot of people ended up getting them as pets as well. I have stopped so many times for various loose ones and they have all been the sweetest, most gentle dogs I have come across. There have been a few that just run off when I stop, but most are happy to see me and just want to stay and play when their owner's arrive to get them.

I'm so sad for the dog kept in a store unsocialized. That was purely the fault of the human. Bless people who do it right. Bless the rescuers who give already under served dogs some semblance of a cheerful life in sanctuaries. Can confirm. My Pyr is 120 lbs of giant wussy, but he will stand up to coyotes. He patrols our fence line on our property all night. He would put himself in mortal peril to protect us our our animals, but otherwise he has zero aggression whatsoever. Unless you mean to harm us or ours, he's no threat to you (man, wolf, coyote).

My Great Pyrenees made very very short work of a large male American Bull Dog that was coming after my son. My dog put it on its back quickly and ripped into its throat like a Great White ripping into a seal. My dog sadly was never the same psychologically, but she did her job. I believe under the same circumstance she would be willing and able to do that to a wolf without much of a problem. It’s the size of the fight in the dog, do not mistake the Great Pyrenees’s kindness for weakness.

I absolutely love Caucasian Shepard's. I actually like the fact that they are more independent. I had an Akita growing up and also have a Chow/Catahoula Leopard mix now. I appreciate the fact that they accept attention when they want it. I find that their ability to think for themselves and not be super needy is quite interesting.

Wonderful video. We just recently became great pyrenees parents and we are in absolute awe of how smart and gentle he is. He's also the biggest snuggle bug. I can't wait to see what type of dog he'll be when he's done growing. But he is definitely cautious when it comes to meeting strangers, but I think he'll grow out of it with as much as we socialize him.

As someone who loves and is loved by two Great Pyrs, I have absolutely no doubt that they would try (and probably succeed) in killing any human who would dare attack me while I was in their care. They are very well socialized. They think everyone they meet is a new friend. They are gentle with other dogs. The larger one backs off when a Yorkie scolds him. His sister thinks little dogs are her playmates, she is a very gentle playmate. But not matter how well socialized they are, they know that my safety is their job. They (especially the female) are very intuitive. One of our former neighbors made my skin crawl. If I was outside with the dogs and he went outside in his yard, she (the smaller Great Pyr) would immediately stop what she was doing to stand by me. She wouldn’t budge until the neighbor or I went back inside. When I am alone with them and they heard a sound that concerned them, she would stand guarding me while her brother went to check it out. She didn’t budge until he came back. Oddly when their dad is around they do not go into guard mode. I guess they feel I am their flock. :).

My neighbor had a Great Pyrenees when I was a child. He was shaved every summer, and had gigantic balls. He was super gentle, like a big Labrador.. But I remember when a stray dog would run around the neighborhood his owner would let him out of the fence. Bjorn (his name) was terrifyingly territorial. There was no situation like that where the stray didn’t end up on their back. Bjorn was always merciful though. Watching videos on their background is very enlightening.

Some shepards do that to A) put the wolf out of its misery and B) As a deterrent to show the rest of the wolves to not mess with this herd since it already took out one of theirs

I loved the video and we now own our second Pyrenees. Our first was a male who died at almost 12 years and 153 pounds. We now have an immature female at 18 months and 100 pounds. Anneka made a comment about Pyr's that we find as pretty much incorrect. That being that the Pyr's she was with might "lick her to death". Normally Pyr's do not lick to show affection. They would rather give her "The Pyr Paw" to be friendly. (Kind of like "shake") Best Regards from Wisconsin!

I have 2 Pyrenees mountain dog sisters a Shar-pei and a pit bull Lab cross.. I got the Pyrenees to keep the coyotes away from the farm. They became half house dogs and half guard dogs. They are out all night barking at everything that moves and in the day they get their inside time. They are excellent dogs. All my dogs get along good.

European carpathian wolf i had was giant and changed the color of the fur from grey in winter ,to red like a fox in summer. Only carpathian wolfs change color seasonally like tigers and arctic foxes. I think he had 75-80 kilos ,but the biggest carpathian wolf hunted( in Serbia) had 110 kilos weight.

Timber wolves average 37kg for males, smaller for d females. Carpathian wolf r slightly bigger, average around 39kg... so compared to this dogs with some weight around 80kg, d wolves r so much smaller in comparison.

I lived in Alaska for a while. My parents bought a ranch In the area known as Sitka. Mom and dad was stationed during the Second world war at LADD FIELD now Fort Wainwright. Both of my parents were military doctors who traveled around the world to different US Embassies and other duty stations. They would split us up and take us to wherever they were stationed. When mom was stationed in India, she put me into a Monastery up in the Himalayan Mountains. The Monks gave me my first Tibetan Masstiff puppy. For my family and I he was very protective but yet a GENTLE GIANT. When dad was stationed in Moscow, I was given a CAUCASIAN OVCHARKA protective, but when properly introduced very friendly. Then both parents were stationed in Finland. That where I was given Shiloh a Great Pyrenees puppy. When I was born dad put an Alaskan Malamute puppy in the crib with me. His name was Thyme. Then dad was stationed in Finland and I was given Pharaoh a Great Pyrenees puppy. All of those dogs were very protective of me and my family. It was Thyme who found a dead wolf and her babies. She died protecting them from a Polar Bear. Foolish me insisted on bringing the pups home to raise them. Now you must remember that this was in the middle 50s. Animal Control Laws were different back then. So we actually raised wolves. The key is SOCIALIZATION. To this day I have a Tibetan Mastiff, Great Pyrenees and Caucasian Ovcharka on my farm. Very protective but yet controllable. They love my children. They are great with children. But when their friends come over to visit. There cannot be any type of horse play between them. I set the ground rules with my children and their friends a no problems. My German Shepherd is a different story. He was adopted and has bite issues and aggressive. With that I am in the process of correcting. So when people ask me does your dogs bite? My reply is always: THEY HAVE TEETH, DON'T THEY?

I had one. I got her from the shelter. I wasn't able to keep her because her and my other dog fought viciously everyday. I was so sad to have to give her away. 😢

I have a Great Pyrenees. Shes my best friend. She literally wont leave my side, even in tight spaces. Shes soo friendly, with new people. She also gets along wonderfully with my holland lop bunny.

I have a 9 month old Pyr, he's training to be my service dog and he is absolutely the best dog I have ever had. I have 4 other dogs and he is by far the most attentive, checks on me, makes sure the other dogs don't knock into me, he's just.....something else. He is my first Pyr, but I think I will always have one after this. They're just special.

We have our second Great Pyrenees and they are just remarkable dogs. They are so loveable and we love our Bubatu which is now 5 . Our first Pyrenees passed Way when she was 12 so we immediately adopted another Great Pyrenees. They are a bit stubborn but you can teach them. You just need patience. We both love animals and pray no one hurts all animals. They are devoted to you and we are devoted to her

At the dog park here in vegas this bodybuilder guy has a great Pyrenees and he's so sweet. The first time he stood next to me and I began petting him. I'd stop and he would rub on me to keep petting him lol. Hed go run around and minutes later come back to me and just wait for me to pet him. He has never started no fights and just goes around from one human to another to get petted. I have never heard him barked now that I think about it.

They are a very mellow breed. When you're that big, you don't need to act crazy or do things to prove yourself. Very secure, confident dogs.

lil late to the pack, but great video of common misconceptions about these dogs. we own 2 GP, Merlin (male) Rye (female). absolutely amazing dogs with a great personality, most good but they do have there not so good ones that u have to be aware of and understand that its part of them. what gets me the most about them is there face, they can show so much emotion and expression with that face that makes them even more loveable...hands down to us one of the best large breeds there is

I have one of each… Yeti is my Great Pyrenees (2 years old and 125) and Sacha is my Ovcharka(7months and 112 pounds ) they’re best friends and inseparable Best dogs ever !

I also have both a three year old GP and a seven month old Orcharka! They too are great buddies, and love my young grandchildren and other family members. We got them to protect our grandsons when they’re playing outside on our property, as there are both coyotes and mountain lions here in central AZ. They are awesome guardians. Our Ovcharka, Mishka, is super intelligent. He learns commands very fast, and even learned to use press audio buttons, that we have programmed with different words, like “outside”, and treat. He always hits the correct button! Casper, the GP, couldn’t care less about using the buttons, but knows many commands. Both are terrific animals.

YES!! This is exactly what I was thinking too. Who wants the liability of an obnoxious huge dog? Especially if you have kids. This was the clincher for me in deciding on the Caucasian Sheppard.

Great Pyrenees will put it's life on the line for any child no matter who that child was. They are the great protector of anything you consider weak or part of their flock. Wonderful breed as long as you don't mind barking, fur and huge paws swatting you for love.

I have seen a loan wolf take on a Great Pyrenees and the Pyrenees won quite easily…. The wolf was almost 5 feet tall from toe to nose and probably 100+lbs. 🤷🏼♀️ I have also seen a pack of five wolves kill a bear. They mostly exhausted the bear to death and once he was dead they left. So they weren’t looking for a meal. They were just playing but they DID kill him. CRAZY

I recently met a Great Pyrenees female, what a gorgeous dog! You could tell that this is not your average dog breed, still she was an absolute sweetheart. She and my WSS female instantly got along and played for over an hour. It was really cool to see the Great Pyrenees happily goofing around since many people think they are aggressive and should never be let together with other dog breeds.

We have 2 GPs that my wife found starving and abandoned on a county road. We also have a German Shepherd mix, an XL Lab, and a little mutt...all dogs that people abandoned out in the country. The GPs get along fine with all of them. The real handful is actually the Lab. He's not aggressive, he's just exceptionally affectionate and needy.

My uncle haves 8 great pyrenees the biggest one is 160 lbs and 33 inches at the shoulder and that pack has killed a pack of wolves but small wolves about 28 inches at the shoulder.

The funny thing is I am terrified of dogs , I cross the road if avoid dogs, if I see a dog off a leash in the distance I will just stop in my tracks and turn away, all that being said, these shows are fascinating, it’s nit that I don’t like dogs it’s just that I am scared of them.

Hey, I know this is 3 years old, but on the off chance you see this, I have a suggestion I hope you will find useful. I adore the GP, had one as a child, and have known many. They give off THE MOST COMFORTING energy I’ve ever felt. 🩵 I met one once in a pediatric hospital that was there with his handler because he was a therapy dog. He was so calm, his vibe felt like a big hug from a loved grandpa. Maybe you could look into meeting and spending a little time with a therapy GP? It might help you with… I was going to say the fear but the sweet boy I met helped me with just about everything! 😂 I was there because my 3 year old daughter was in the hospital and I was so frazzled. He sensed that and took care of me! Anyway, good luck and happiness to you Friend!

I know cases of unprepared owner ending up not feeling safe because ended up with a very difficult dogs to live with.. be very careful with those breeds.. all of them.. Kangal and Maremma included.. take a bloodline selected for show not a working line.. find a good breeder.. and be a good owner.

@@asganaway I have another dog and the breeder got to look at our house and surrounding area. They could refuse sale if they felt we were unsuitable. Animal Watch also showed a Shiba Inu walk for prospective owners so those approaches could work and save dogs from rescue shelters.

We have a Bernese 8y(rescue) and a Pyreneess 9months, already weighs 100lbs. Both amazing dogs. Neighbors and I had a coyote issue, not anymore.
