Thank you Anne. As a future Author, this is fantastic advice. I have always looked up to you. Your stories got me through terrible times in my life. They gave me strength and hope. I hope you know just how inspiring you truly are. You helped change the way people think. And ever since you helped me, I have always wanted to do the same for others. Thank you. If it weren't for your stories, I don't think I would of gotten through what I did.

I love that she takes time to explain things and put in the details and walk us through it.. most of the time with people it's just them going "So I got an agent.". HOW?!? Thanks Anne Rice. R.i.p.

Its funny @DapperDon how now in 2024 there's a Mandela effect where people believe it's titled "interview with a vampire" but many a time Anne Rice states its "Interview with THE vampire"

This is the most interesting to me yet of your KZfaq posts. Tho I no longer have dreams of being a pro writer, I'm still curious about the details of how my favorite authors work. The length was good, too. Some of your short videos could be more effectively combined into meatier bites like this. I appreciate brevity as much as the next guy, but if you have three distinct thoughts on one book, for example, they are more easily consumed as one 4.5 min vid vs. three 1.5 min vids. Thank you!

I normally devour books in one or two sittings. I couldn't do that with Interview - it was just too dense conceptually. I put it down maybe half a dozen times to think and digest what I had just read before forging ahead. Learnt so many things about the world in its pages. This was a book that bit back... (pun intended).
@Dank951

Same thing here. It took me 3 weeks to finish Interview and almost 2 months to get through The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, which were both so long and “conceptually dense”.

I found " lnterveiw With The Vampire ' in a library, in 1975-76 maybe. It's was gripping if only of the idea. Later l learned that I shared something with the author , the community of Berkeley CA. So to back track ,she's going through revisions ,in 1974...means , she had written it in years prior. I mention this in social media , and there seem to be few hold overs from those days in Berkeley. I'd met her ( l believe ) on Telegraph Ave.working A Street peddler stand ( me). Which sold a large amount of decopauge , meticulously crafted under the tutalage on a person enigmatic - underground- charismatic...( Who had aspirations ,and was in with the people who've been brought to life ,of the movie " Blow". ) Our stand was set up always at the corner where the Waffle House - North Beach Leathers- Darvish ( indian Restaurant )... There was a known published writer seen on the street daily , he wore a cape , everyone knew about him , he had written a book called " True ( or maybe ' Real ' ) Magic ". Also l believe the Actor who became Luke Skywalker character was amongst us. Rock Stars were seen ,Jack Cassasdy for one would buy from us. After all it was the nieghborhood around one of the greatest schools in the USA. Someone l believe , was a model for Lestat then. If you read what Anne said about herself ,her life then......She had revealed in a bio writing ,of recently having struggles with alcohol ism....during the days leading up to the writing of " Interveiw.." This was Berkeley hippie culture days ( Anne remained preppy..exact same look she had exact same hairstyle ). So you would need to understand about what women then , would let themselves into.... of their ' Woman's perogative ' But this very Charismatic person ,was my older sister s boyfriend , and he would say , if you got to know him in intamacy ( Was a serious drug dealer ) " I am the Devil " He would say ; " lm not allowed in a church ..".. He resemble d James Coburn' , had same vocal inflection., and ...was a basic serious outlaw. Women literally threw themselves at him , but , he left a shadowy existence , what we used to call : Underground '.....he sold substances to famius Musicians. He came to wreck the relationship with my sister ,and l and he..for a breif period would go out to bars ....before 20 minutes would pass , some female patron was offered him ' take me home '... So , the only time in the day you could find him , was when he would drive to Berkeley to close the Decopauge stand , which meant packing 60 plaques into boxes. So one day , there is this preppy looking woman and she's acting as if she knows me somehow ,as if someone has told her about me...she is also waiting....for someone. So l saw photo of Anne first published photo , .. ..... ..looked like that preppy looking woman...........who was waiting around to catch Bruce...... ( Bruce Martin , was fit description of Lestat ......he knew every Cocaine Cowboy..operating around the bay area .. he fell into con- artistry..and the Feds caught up with him...) The decopauge street peddling was $$$ success...

The only thing that bothered me about that book was Louis's transition into vampirism. His reticence and reluctance to BE a vampire wasn't believable. Lestat made it very clear what was involved in the exchange. Then, suddenly, Louis was like, 'I don't want to drain human life! Nooooooooo!" As far as the mutating of original work by copyeditors, yeah, they like doing that. Everyone's a critic in the literary world. You, her, me, them. Everyone.
@JesseColton
@JesseColton Жыл бұрын
I think the fact that Louis is in over his head and it's too late to turn back is the point of his story and the main conflict of his life as a vampire. He consents to becoming a vampire but who among us could ever truly make an informed decision about that? Nothing could have ever truly prepared him for what it meant to take life in order to live, and the realization that he must do it and that a part of him enjoys it is a reflection of so many struggles of people in the real world: addiction, love, trauma, violence, these are things all people have to wrestle with and try to understand all their lives. Louis chose to become a vampire and then when it was time to do what he had to do to survive he realized how sickened he was at the prospect. His ambiguity about his own morality is what makes him compelling.
