In this episode we introduce the new camper van build on the channel. This is a 1997 Dodge Ram B2500 Vintage Conversion Van. We picked this up for an absolute steal with only 90k original miles on the odometer. The high roof allows us to almost stand up which is a huge upgrade from the mini-van. Stay tuned for this in depth build content coming soon to the channel.

This is my van! Didn't catch if it's a 318 or slant 6 but the 318 is bulletproof! mine's the shorty with a low top but it is an absolute BEAST. Built the slat bed from your previous video in it and a shelf/ sink/ trash storage combo, I'll post pics when I have a minute. Keep up the good work, and GOOD CHOICE!

I believe it’s the 318 is what I was told from a gentleman who was totally geeking out about the van!! He said he owns 2 of them and they are absolutely incredible. I’m really happy to hear all the positive feedback. It makes my decision feel justified, and gets me excited for the future. It was a hard deal to pass up with such little mileage and the high roof. That’s awesome you have found my bed video to be useful and implemented the design into your build. Would definitely really like to see pictures of it!! I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching!

@@SeizeTheAdventurelet’s talk about the hi top roof lol. I have this van but just without the hi top 🙃. Honestly is it worth building out without the hi top.. I know I hate having to be slouched when I stand. I have no money invested at all into the van, have taken it on a couple 300 mile adventures and would love to build it out to make it more suitable, hi roof is just holding me back..

You picked a good one going with the 2500 of that gen. The 3500 has a 25" extension off the back that makes it look ugly, IMO, not to mention it tanks the departure angle when you're trailing. On the flipside, the 1500 isn't any longer than an Astrovan despite being taller and wider. One more thing. This is the third video of yours I've watched, and all 3 have had different frame rates and shutter speeds. Please for the love of OCD pick one setup and lock it down. IMO 30fps with a 1/50th shutter speed is ideal, but if you WANT or NEED to be low frame rate, go 25fps with a 1/40th shutter speed. And like I said in the other comment, set your camera's auto-exposure to only affect ISO, that way your motion blur (which is what shutter speed affects and has a huge impact on how natural your footage looks) won't get messed with. One more thing; When you edit, if you're editing 24, 30, or 60, be sure to check if your camera is shooting true or decimal. If it's shooting decimal (and it may not tell you in the settings what it's doing, so you'll have to look it up) then you need to match the editing timeline to that and export it as that, also. Otherwise, you get a judder artifact where moving objects will randomly skip forwards in motion. 25fps and 50fps avoid this entirely because PAL never used decimal framerates, so 25 and 50 will always shoot true framerate regardless of the camera. And you know, if you aren't afraid of using the storage space, experiment with 50fps, too, if you want some REALLY primo smooth footage. The ideal shutter speed for that is a locked 1/60th, and that's for two reasons. 1. to prevent interior lighting in the US from flickering on camera, and 2. Because it's as close to the natural motion blur range as you can get with 50fps while still doing the first thing. Oh yeah, the 1/40th is the only one (besides 1/60th, which is too high for 25fps IMO) that'll work with 25fps in USA, for the same reason of interior light flickering. 24, 30, and 60 will work with any shutter in the US, but in, say, Australia they will flicker unless you use a 1/50th shutter (or 1/100th with 60fps since you can't have a shutter less than the frame rate) Long story short, "universal" setups while remaining as close to natural motion blur as possible are: 24p 1/50th, 25p 1/40th(superior in every way to the 24p option), 30p 1/50th, and 50p 1/60th. If you camera supports 40fps, then 40p 1/50th, but I doubt it does. Plus neither YT nor editing software supports 40p uploads, so... ((They really should though, cuz 40fps looks great and saves a bit on storage compared to true high frame rate 50, 60, and beyond))

I am definitely happy with the overall size and look of the B2500. Feels like a big upgrade on space from an Astro. Especially with the higher roof. I appreciate your camera knowledge and hope to learn more myself. I just switched to a new editing software and have been getting used to the presets and settings, so bare with me! I use a GoPro Hero 9 which could probably be adjusted to produce a higher quality video. I’ll look into that. Thanks for watching.

@@SeizeTheAdventure Cool, man. One more thing since you're shooting on a gopro is when you get the auto-exposure set so it doesn't mess with shutter speed you wanna do two more things. Make it bias 0.5 to 1 step darker than normal, and also set a max ISO of like 600 or so. Usually on action cams anything past 400-800 ISO (depending on the cam) will get REALLY grainy/noisy, so if you have to crank it higher, just break out some lights and light your scene more. And for the making it bias lower, that's for two reasons: 1. IMO slightly darker looks better (way better than blown out), and 2. Slightly darker is much easier to fix in post where you can bring up the highlights and un-crush the blacks, whereas you can't do anything about blown out footage in post. But above all, once you search and read up on the controls, EXPERIMENT. You might be okay with a little higher ISO than I rec and could live with the grain/noise in the picture. Oh, almost forgot, look into ND filters. You won't need them all the time, but on the BRIGHTEST of days when even the lowest ISO (I think either 50 or 100 on a gopro) is still blown out, you'll be grateful for that little lens that can darken things up for your camera's sensor.

@@SeizeTheAdventure I have 2 100w solar panels and a max fan on the roof, inside is all gutted and has a subfloor Now I'm working on removing the rear AC unit so I can lay some vinyl planks down. Next would be the ceiling to finish up my lighting needs built out and set me up nicely to finish up the electrical You're vids are super thorough, only found u today! Amazing that you're doing my exact model van! They're so rare to find on youtube lol Are you gonna go for a full bed window to window layout or your usual sideways / pullout bed with the hallway in the middle? I'm gonna go for the latter!

@@fr3847 I’d like to have the same set up on my roof. Seems like the perfect size for that set up. Nice sounds like you are moving right along!! I’m glad this build is going to be a more unique one on KZfaq! I think it’s a really great platform for what my plans are. I’m not set on a layout yet, but I’m leaning more towards a bed window to window. Id like to have that extra “garage” space to set up my battery system, and allow tons of storage. Although I like this idea I want a pretty functional sitting area because my current set up allows for that. Maybe one of those bench style U-shape beds with a drop down table in the center. Not set on anything and open to suggestions. Thanks for commenting, and stay tuned for more content on this build.
