Dear Jeremy.. In your campaign to show us the many bad drivers that exist, pro-rata, there are many more bad cyclists. No harm done here, no drama, no finger waggling, but if the rider had cycled into my car, who would have been to blame?

I had one do exactly the same on me last week. There was a woman walking on the pavement & as he came up behind her as i was passing he just went into the road, never looked behind him. I had to swerve It's a narrow road & if anything was coming the other way there would have been a serious accident 😡👇

Looks like an ebike and from the behaviour we can add the following 1. No registering a motorbike 2. Probably not having the right license 3. Not displaying an L-plate 4. Tax evasion 5. No number plate. 6. No insurance 7. No hire and reward insurance 8. No carriage of goods insurance 9. Red light. 10. On the pavement 11. No signalling 12. Using a vehicle on a pedestrian crossing Interestingly they don't trust their own riding, so they have a proper motorbike helmet.

"don't tar all cyclists with the same brush".. I hear you, except Jeremy Vine and a few other vigilante cyclists appear to tar all drivers with exactly the same brush whilst excusing all cyclists of any wrong-doing anytime anywhere. Jeremy Vine did that himself a week or so ago, when he narrowly avoided a cyclist going through a red light but banged into another rider. He would no doubt use the tried and tested cyclists’ argument that being hit by a cyclist is not comparable with being hit by 2 tons of car, and he’d be correct.. but back to this video.. If the lad had hit my car, without dashcam I would almost certainly be culpable; I would have to claim on my insurance for repairs, pay the excess and lose my no-claims. The cyclist may even try to claim for damages too. Or, lets say the cyclist didn't hit me, but in my taking avoiding action, I hit another vehicle or swerved into a pedestrian. While the cyclist disappears down the road, I'm left facing a careless driving charge. So my video - and I could produce them almost daily - is not a jibe at all cyclists (I am one), but a reminder that we all need to exercise tolerance, especially while moving around a busy city. I also recognise Vine orchestrates a fair few of his ‘incidents’. I recognise the roads he rides. As for me, here is my mtb when I stripped/refurbed it a couple of years ago twitter.com/AndyMbbsc I am just about replace the gear & brake cabling and will post a vid shortly. I’ll send you a tenner if you can identify the frame! This bike does 20-25m a week at the moment, mostly at weekends on a single run.

@@andy-maunder Actually most of what you're claming here is rubbish. If they damage your car you're entitled to take a civil claim against them. Doesn't have to go through your insurance company at all. And cyclists do have insurance sometimes. And if you think JV tars everyone with the same brush, you're very much mistaken. Just another insecure car driver that sees cyclists as the problem.

@@hairyairey See, you're just another apologist. Pointless. Try making a civil claim against someone who disappeared down the street. Without dashcam, a civil claim has no chance, one person's word against another. Try understanding the comments before rushing to respond.. and why would I be an insecure driver when I've demonstrated my own passion for cycling. You're lost in space.

Cyclist go through red lights, in anay and all directions, including cutting through via pedestrian crossing walking routes, every time I drive. EVERY FCKING TIME !!!!! They pass stationary cars within cms, then cry when cars only leave 1.4m gap when they overtake. I'm a cyclist myself, and use that rare thing, common sense, always manoeuvring to stay safe myself, get out of vehicles way, pull over to let them pass and keep the heavier fuel consuming traffic moving. Stop start stop start for combustion engines uses more fuel.

I would say it's highly unlikely you spend much time on a bicycle, otherwise you'd have a bit more of an understanding of the issues facing cyclists. A vehicle close passing a cyclist at 20cm is highly dangerous due to the speed involved and could kill or seriously injure a cyclist, whilst a cyclist passing stationary or nearly stationary cars is rarely dangerous due to the very low speed of the car. It's physics. Few cyclists get the measuring tapes out and complain about 1.4m either, I couldn't personally tell the difference between 1.4 and 1.5. However I have nearly been taken out by cars passing at much, much less than that, which is highly dangerous as if a close pass happens at the same time as a pothole or a sudden gust of wind, the cyclist could be in serious trouble.

@@BM-xd7cm I might be being tedious, but I note you haven't actually engaged with any of my points. I don't think you can spend a lot of time on a bike and not be aware of them, which is why I would seriously doubt that you spend much time on a bike at all.

I agree that the cyclist should have dismounted and walked through the red light to avoid breaking UK law. Cyclists can pass through red lights in Paris, Canada and some US states but not in the UK at present. The cyclist shouldn't ride on the pavement either. The cyclist did stop though to let you pass and yes, had he cycled into your car he would have been at fault. The big difference though is that in vehicle cyclist collisions, the cyclist is almost always injured, often seriously, whereas the driver is highly unlikely to be injured and any damage to their vehicle is likely to be minor and far less than if the collision had been with another vehicle. Drivers kill 1,500 people (including about 100 cyclists and another 100 pedestrians) every year. That is why Jeremy Vine and many other cyclists believe drivers that fail to follow the highway code guidance, when encountering cyclists, need to improve their driving or have their licences revoked. When it's as safe to cycle or walk a mile as it is to drive a mile (currently the accident rate is about 15 times higher) then cyclists and pedestrians will no longer have reason to pursue bad drivers.

It doesn't matter what Cyclists do in Paris or Canada and US states. In this country we have our own laws. I did a very similar little vid to this one a few weeks ago when a cyclist entered a dual carriageway ahead of me. The point of these vids is not to contribute to the daft cycling v drivers 'war', that's raging, but to highlight the fact that many cyclists are a complete danger to themselves. Just this evening I literally passed two riders - within 100yrds, both texting on their phones, with complete disregard for the main road we were traveling on. In the scenario the chap in this video cycled into me, without dashcam I would almost certainly be culpable. If he damaged my vehicle, I would have to claim on my insurance, pay the excess and lose my bonus. The cyclist would probably claim against me for damages. Granted, I'm nice and comparatively safe in my car and of course less likely to get hurt than the cyclist, I've seen the stats.. but I've also watched many of Jeremy's videos and it is clear he is going way further than calling out bad drivers. He is actively contributing to this daft resentment towards drivers. He cannot expect, living and riding in London, to have a 'free unencumbered route' every time he goes out. Even walking through town there are people who cross in front of us, stop suddenly and so on. If we reacted to them each time like Jeremy does to motorists, we'd end up in fight. For the record I cycle a lot. I've become tired of people questioning my opinion 'because I'm a driver'.. so here is my refurbed mtb that I do at 20-25m per week on. Just about to change out the brake and gear cabling and will post a new vid ..twitter.com/AndyMbbsc. I also walk a lot!

desperately trying to justify the stupidity of the cyclist and failing. the cyclist broke two laws for no reason. the cyclist stopped because he realised his error and that he was about to throw himself under the vehicle who had done nothing wrong. the big difference is that this video shows that the cyclist was at fault and only the cyclist. any injuries to the cyclist was the cyclists fault. if the cyclist had been injured or killed in this situation. the driver didnt injure or kill the cyclist, only the cyclists actions did that. if jeremy vine was correctly wanting safer cycling he would be saying the cyclist was an idiot, riding illegally and dangerously, who should have followed the highway code. simple facts escaping the cyclists of youtube there.

@@andy-maunder I agree that in the UK cyclists should adhere to UK laws. My point was that, providing a cyclist gives way to traffic that has a green light, then riding through red lights isn't dangerous, which is why it's permitted elsewhere.Traffic lights were, after all, introduced for motor vehicles and cyclists maanged for decades without them. This video demonstrates why traffic lights are needed for vehicles but not for cyclists kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pteBhtqCsaqte2w.html I never cycle through red lights, but fortunately pedestrians are permitted to cross roads against red lights in the UK and a cyclist becomes a pedestrian when they dismount. There are of course cyclists who take risks and hence could be regarded as a danger to themselves. This is also true of drivers. Again the dfference is that, in the case of a cyclist, this behaviour is most likely only going to injure the cyclist, never a driver and occasionally a pedestrian. Drivers taking risks kill 100's of innocent road users every year. I believe cyclists are generally far more cautious than drivers, because they know they'll be injured in any collision. I can agree that there are many cyclists who believe more should be done to make the roads safer for cyclists (and pedestrians) particularly in urban areas frequented by many pedestrians and cyclists. There would be far more using active transport, if it were safer. Government policy www.gov.uk/government/publications/cycling-and-walking-plan-for-england is to encourage more people to walk and cycle in urban areas, to reduce congestion, air and noise pollution, improve air quality and improve the health of the population through greater fitness. This and past governments have already done quite a lot in this respect - cycle infrastructure, 20mph speed limits, congestion charging, higher parking fees, highway code changes etc. Some cyclists want to push this agenda and hence have something of a crusade against drivers who fail to treat cyclists as equals on the road. For the record I also drive and cover roughly equal mileages, cycling and driving (each about 4,000 miles a year). I don't tend to walk much normally, but will for leisure but not in urban areas.
