I'm an older gay guy who wants you to know that your sensible, rational yet fun attitude to life is awe inspiring. I've been through some of the questions you have been asked and worked them out for myself. You're conclusions are a lot more understanding than mine and I congratulate you on your plain old common sense! Love from UK. x

Hi bro. Joseph. I'm old enough to be your grandfather. When I wore my PFLAG Pride braclet to church, members who I thought were friends no longer spoke to me etc. God will still love you completely. Do what is necessary to remain commited to Him and yourself. Only you can make yourself happy. xo

Wow, that was a lot of questions, and it definitely looks like a lot of editing. Thank you for putting in what must have been a lot of work. Every time I hear your perspective on what you do and how you think, I am stunned by the beauty in its simplicity. And that is what I love most about your videos. Happy New Year to you and Hayden and your family, both blood and chosen relatives. Wishing you a beautiful 2020.

I started taking cold showers to lose fat and for conditioning..( I lost 30lbs. Thank you Tim Ferris & Wim Hof.) The cold showers had a few unexpected side effects. It lowered my blood pressure, helped my mood (a lot)….and significantly cleared up my rosacea. I highly recommend them. Spend time focusing on your face when you take the shower. 8 min, per Tim.

Thank you for saying that you support whatever makes people happy, whether they decide to stay in the church or leave the church if they're gay. I feel like many people in a church setting aren't supportive of a homosexual lifestyle, and many people in the LGBT community aren't supportive of gay people living according to the teachings of a church that prohibits homosexual behavior. I don't know how true that actually is, but I'm sure it's a fear a lot of religious gay people have.

Wow, I know this is an older video but I to was a member of the LDS church. Back in my 20's I lived in Idaho and I had a lot of my friends that were Mormon. I talked to missionaries and honestly made the decision to get baptized and join the church. It really all felt right but I did know I liked guys but I wasn't out and still joined the church. I am a lot older now and have moved back to the east coast and I am still not out except to one person. I still have people from the church come do home visits and check up on me and they try to get me to go to church. There are a lot of good and kind people but I just can't go back to the church because I know in my heart that it would be a huge lie to go and to pretend to be someone I'm not. The one person I came out to is gay as well but he turned on me. I just thought coming out to him would give me a friend that I could be myself around and just talk to about stuff. It's really hard 😪 keeping this secret bottled up inside me with knowone to talk to. I have severe depression as well. But I admire you for coming out and just being yourself

Depending he may need to seek help for Religious Trauma Syndrome. And no for those that want to start using that as a club it has a very specific meaning. The simple explanation of RTS is that past religions experience *CAN* (not is) be a source of PTSD. The most obvious example of this would be an overwhelming fear of hell or in the case of mormons outer darkness after one stops believing in hell/outer darkness. And before some random commenter says "being afraid of hell when you don't believe in it doesn't make sense". If PTSD is either hyper rational or hyper irrational. If you grow up in an environment where you are constantly receiving the message that you are broken (at best) and that there is something fundamentally wrong with you. And you hear this message both actively and passively for 18 years... you more than likely have at least a little trauma you need to resolve even if you are no longer subjected to that and haven't been for a while.

My coming out took time and some conflict. But I am fully comfortable now. I still go to mass and receive communion as a Catholic. The Bible says if you're a leper, you should stay outside the city walls and shout "Unclean" if anyone approaches you. Of course, no one today thinks that's correct. Why can't our knowledge of human sexuality evolve too? In the days of the Jews and the early Church, they needed everyone to marry, procreate and raise as many children as possible. They could be wiped out otherwise. Today, that's no more an issue than shouting "Unclean" once was. We can be gay and not feel any guilt.

As an agnostic who does not believe in the supernatural and with a rich spiritual life what I am going to say is more than likely going to be controversial. What most people are looking for is a particular emotional experience which can be brought about by a number of ways but is usually dependent upon ones aesthetic taste which is usually but not always shaped by childhood. Think High vs Low Church. I know most people don't think of it this way but Mormonism is actually High Church masquerading as Low Church. Someone coming from a High Church background often finds it difficult to find what they are looking for in a Low Church environment while someone coming from a Low Church environment often finds High Church to be stiff and stifling. Both settings are ritualistic the only question is how formal and tight the ritual is. In many ways it's about finding replacements that work for you. I believe Salt Lake has a Sunday Assembly that is modeled on Ward experience though that may have changed.

I know plenty of people who are gay and religious. While growing up gay and Mormon presents its share of obstacles, you should still be able to have a healthy relationship with God. The Church is just a conduit for that anyway. For the record, I'm a lapsed Catholic, but that's because I realized I just didn't need religion in my life at all. It's different for everyone.

Off topic, but I've watched a bunch of vids by younger gay guys and encounter 'skin care routine' questions frequently. OK, I'm old: 'skin care routines' for guys didn't exist when I grew up. Soap, water and some Clearasil until you got past it. Guys, gay or not, were guys. You played sports, mowed lawns for pocket money and could change the oil in your car. Then again, you also didn't date guys until you (wisely) went off to a pretty big school near or in a major metro area :)

While my local congregation welcomes and embraces any and all LGBT+ folks, the denomination still has the old view that we are sinners. You know Joseph, there are plenty of Christian Communities that openly accept LGBTQ folk. I'm a Catholic, and even though the church has a bad history and beliefs about us, there are many communities of Catholics who disagree with church teaching and welcome us. Other traditions within the Christian tradition are very open to LGBTQ. Even Pope Francis has said "Who am I to judge?" when asked about LTBTQ. My point is, being gay has nothing to do with your being away from a community. Perhaps it's more strict in the Morman church, but God does not ask that you be part of any churchmen particular. You can be close to God whether you are part of a church or not. Good luck on your spiritual journey. If you need someone to talk with, I'm a great listener.

Joseph, do not be so down on yourself for demanding a monogamous relationship. The crowd you travel in may need changing if the sexual press is there to sexualise a first date, or even the second: if the guy needs sex to maintain a budding relationship, change guys. Keep your moral compass in the right direction, if he gives you heartache by doing so, change guys. Trust in a longterm relationship must be used on monogamy, it is essential. Your identity is not being gay, it is who Joseph is a a whole person, being gay is just one tiny aspect of your identity.

I don't think avoiding PDA is necessarily "internalized homophobia." I was raised in a strict religious family, and no one in my family ever does PDA because it's considered rude even if it's the Jesus approved straight variety.
