I've come away from this interview with an even deeper respect and love for Sir Anthony Hopkins as an actor and as a person. He's so insightful and humble.

Such a charming, intelligent man. Seems like a delight to be around.

Tom power you did a brilliant job of interviewing him. You asked him questions and let him answer without interrupting him, requested him to recite a poem.. It was a soothing interview. Continue with the same humility and you will get the best out of your future interviewees as well.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors. It’s truly hard to believe that he is 82. He’s very youthful and he looks terrific.

My husband had dementia and died in 2021. I wish I had seen the FATHER before he died because I would have understood how his mind was working. The way this film was shot and connected shows the inner workings of the minds of people with dementia.

I'm glad he is speaking about old age. Your parents try to prepare you for adulthood but they never prepare you for old age. I didn't realize I was old until I was 60. 😏

When I saw The Father, I was convinced that I,d just watched his best performance ever. I was actually shaken by the last few minutes.

This was one of the best interviews ive seen in quite a while, it's actually kinda relaxing hearing him talk about old age and the inevitability of death, makes me feel better in a way

The secret of being a good interviewer is in listening. You have that gift. Hopkins was allowed to shine.

I just watched this movie yesterday with my mom and we cried our eyes out. Our grandma has dementia too, and we witnessed her going through all of this. She cried a lot because she felt helpless and a burden to us, and no matter how hard we tried to convince her that she is not a burden she wouldn't listen. She used to be a very strong, proud and independent person and it was a real challenge for her to admit that she is not that kind of person anymore. And she also called her mommy... That scene in the movie really hit us. But now several months passed and it looks like she is learning to live with her disease. She is joyful and always makes us laugh. What a strong personality.... Anthony Hopkins is a genius! I feel so much respect for him for accurately portraying what dementia feels like. And the movie itself is a masterpease. This is true art: it makes us feel the pain and desperation of elderly people and empathise with their emotions. It makes us Humans.

I'm beginning to think that the Canadian interviewers are the best!

I was so impressed by this intelligent, calm, insightful, empathetic and respectful interview by Tom Power with the great Antony Hopkins. Because of Tom's demeanor and interesting questions that led on from things Sir Antony said, Sir Antony was able to relax and share some very meaningful insights into his own life, punctuated by his breathtaking poetry remembrances. What a sweet and wonderful interview.

What a wonderful voice he has. I just watched an interview of him in 1978 and his voice is so different -- I know about some smaller details of what happened in his life but, he seems to be an enigma. And that's fine, I'm happy to treat him the way I treat my favourite fictional characters. Love from Australia, Sir Tony.

As someone who is also facing that terminus (I'm 68). I am able to understand very well how the fear and anxiety about dying diminishes as we age more and more . . . perhaps one way we are prepared for that final stage of our journey. And also I understand what he meant about how his childhood and his time in Wales has returned so clearly to him. I feel that too, about my early life . . . it's as if it is just sitting over my shoulder, so much more real to me than what happened twenty or thirty years ago . . . as if we return to our beginnings, complete the cycle so to speak, to enable the soul to review its life on this earth. Sounds whimsical I know, but I do believe this . . . I love Anthony Hopkins. Can't wait to see this film . . .

After watching this excellent interview, I want to watch every movie Sir Anthony Hopkins has ever been in.

Wow what a tragic and heartbreaking film about a father with dementia. It highlights how our brain deteriorates with age and agonizingly loses all the memories we have. The film truly shows how it is difficult to cope with dementia. Seeing Anthony cry broke me down to tears because he was such a phenomenal actor. All aspects of the film including the editing, screenplay and score was perfect. And I’m happy that my all-time favorite actor wins the Oscars, Bafta and Saga award all in one year. He is that good. 10/10.

An amazingly humble and philosophical beacon of incredible warmth and humility and unlimited talent. Soo charming, he lights up the world with his warmth, smile and humor. A pure example of what is indeed possible when a consciousness works within the flow of unlimited potential and possibilities. You may have strove for fame and fortune but you certainly didn't lose yourself in the process. Greatest respect and appreciation. Your an absolute gem and delight to watch and listen to. Sir Anthony does not "act", he becomes. He is extremely gifted. Always, one of my all time favorite artists, and The Father is one of his BEST performances. There has never been a more insightful portrayal of Alzheimer's or a more convincing performance!! It hit very close to home for me as I not only identified with Olivia Coleman's character (brilliant artist as well), but also felt the pain of The Father very deeply. I rarely cry at movies but this absolutely moved me to tears! EVERYONE should watch this movie, including nursing home staff. The ONLY thing that did not strike me as real in this movie is the nurse holding The Father in the end. From my experience, staff in these care homes never take or have the kind of time or empathy to comfort a resident in distress that way. I wish there were such a place but there is not. That is why EVERYONE should watch this!!!! This movie is a first to portray the suffering from their perspective and Sir Anthony is gifted at taking you there! Dying is not the scary part. Suffering and loneliness is the worst part of aging for many, especially those who have to rely on strangers to tend to their every need. And yes, loneliness is a killer as well. GREAT INTERVIEW!!!

This one of the best script and the movie and cast is extraordinary. But Anthony is the best in this roll o my god another tremendous interpretation of him..

I am impatiently waiting for this film to be released! No one compares to Sir Anthony Hopkins! So thrilled to see Olivia Coleman co-starring!

He was amazing in Season 1 of Westworld, and of course as Hannibal Lector, in Silence of the Lambs, but as more of us are taking care of our aging parents and dealing with parents who split from the other parent, or lost the other parent already, many of us are being put into the role of caring for our parents, and the emotions you go through is just a roller coaster, from love to heartbreak, to anger, to fear of dying.

What a stellar interview... it was so relaxed and yet so profound and touching, without a single air of pretension. Tom was fantastic, very Socratic in his gentle leading of his guest. And Hopkins, so generous and thoughtful, nearly poetic in his reflections of life's journey. Very touching and bitter-sweet.

This is one of the best interviews of an icon I have seen in decades. Thank you for this post. Brilliant!

A wonderful interview and a credit to Tom Power. He has such an empathic style that brought the best out of Sir Anthony. Who revealed yet again how wise and thoughtful he is.

That was wonderful. A great man, a great actor and yet so humble. I can’t wait till the Father comes out on DVD. I looked after my husband for 8 years with Alzheimer’s. It’s a cruel disease and yet because we had been married for 58 years we were able to talk and laugh about memories. Gradually reaching further and further back until he died. I miss him dreadfully and can empathise with the Queen now alone. What a great memory Sir Anthony has and he looks so much younger than his age.

I found as my parents aged well into their later years, I adored them and wanted to cling so tight to them but ultimately knew as their health started to fail slowly I had to let them go. Many wonderful memories I do have though.

The Father devastated me in a way few films do, and hearing Hopkins reciting Eliot here set me off again. It's a magnificent performance in a disturbing and dazzling film. Thank you and God bless you, sir!

I've never heard of this interviewer, but I was googling Anthony Hopkins interviews about this movie. What a great interviewer! Great questions, very relaxing demeanor, left the floor wide open for Anthony's personality to shine. Both of these guys seem great! This was a delight to watch!

I wondered months ago, why Anthony Hopkin won awards for this movie. Now, I know. In my opinion, this is the greatest performance by Anthony Hopkins and he has many. Great performance. Very real and touching.

I love love love Sir Anthony. I cried bitterly when he cried in "The Father." I remember how he would attend "American Idol" shows in the US. He was such a big fan. It's just so pure. God bless him.

The greatest actor of all times

My three sons when in their teens used to spend their Sunday afternoons visiting hospices and Nursing homes where many of the patients had dementia. They loved the experience of just being able to give them a small window of joy in an otherwise dull existence. It also taught them to be more tolerant of others .Thank you Sir Anthony. We all love you.

Bless him - the film was heartbreaking… I’ve seen dementia ‘up-close’ first hand. I had a Nan that had it, and I worked in a dementia ward when I was younger. The film really hits the point hard from the suffers point of view - one which people can be quite ignorant upon.
