Megadeth is my favorite band of all time, but Anthrax has always been so consistent. And, out of all the thrash bands, there is no one that has more energy and more fun on stage. They always sound tight. They make strong albums and the last two is some of the best material they've ever written. Don't ever let anyone say they don't deserve a spot in the Big 4. No one is like Anthrax. As a native NYer (Bronx), I always have a soft spot for my hometown boys. Long Live Anthrax.
@jamesmeeker6933

Anthrax were easily the tightest, most consistent group of the Big 4 (especially live). Metallica were always sloppy live, Megadeth were hit-or-miss (great shows, not so great shows), Slayer were up there, but Anthrax were a lethal, well-oiled metal machine. Each band brings something to the table, but Anthrax always had the best band dynamics. Their timing is scary perfect.

@@jamesmeeker6933 For sure. I've seen Megadeth 22 times since 88, including with Anthrax. Seen Slayer and Metallica obviously a bunch of times too. But, Anthrax is my favorite live act. They are heavy. They are tight. They have great songs. I never stopped buying their albums, so of course I bought this when it came out. And I use to call the radio station in NY to request 'Inside Out' all the time. I don't like to crap on the other bands, because they all have a place in my heart, but Anthrax has a flavor no one else has. I also love both eras of Anthrax. And man, since this video series came out, I'm been going back to listening to the catalog. They are the only band in thrash that hasn't lost their edge. They went through changes, but never for worse. They sound as good, if not better than at anytime in their history. I do miss Dan, tho.

I'm giving it another listen right now for the first time in decades and I'm just not feeling it. The first four songs are good, not classic Anthrax but good, then the album just plunges into completely forgettable trash songs, 5 songs in a row are just boring, now I'm up to "Hog Tied" and this is alright....but its still not an exciting song. They just sound lost in 1998.

I am very proud of the drum sound we captured, thank you. For clarity... Not sure if you are generalizing the DIME solo comment... Charlie is playing the solo on CATHARSIS. Fun trivia... Dime submitted his solo for INSIDE OUT. Charlie didn't like it. He called DIME and asked him to change it up. Dime wasn't all that pleased but wanted Charlie to be happy. The solo you are hearing was his second submission.

Hi @@PaulCrookMusic thank you for the reply. Yes I was referring to Dime's solo on Inside out. It is magic. I'm glad Charlie asked him to redo it. I love that "whaling" sound he does in the beginning of the solo. He was a true master. You and the team really did a great job with the sound. I was disappointed when WCFYA was released and it didn't have the same "attacking" snare sound as on Vol 8. But hey, that's just my opinion. You guys are out there playing music and making it happen, while I'm here giving my insignificant opinion... Thank you

This album brings back bittersweet memories for me. I had been living in Mesa, AZ for 4 years at the time, and the first years or so, the heavy music scene in the Phoenix/Tempe area was great, but then it began going steadily downhill in 1996 and by the time Volume 8 came out, everything had pretty much gone to shit and pop punk and ska had taken over both locally and nationally. And personally, I was going through a major depression over a girl I was in love with who rejected me and over my band falling apart. I was also going through an existential crisis thinking about the meaning of life, religion and all kinds of heavy shit like that. I remember sitting on my porch blasting this album, thinking about life and reminiscing about the early 90's. Even though it was only a few years prior, so much had changed for the worse.

I know the history of the band during the 90's/00's but if you are a music fan, every album from Sound of white noise with Bush just carried that incredible energy where my benchmark is if an album sounds incredible and then the band tours it and just takes it to another level where you go into the album with a crowd who have all been through the good and bad days, then this is one of the most undersold classics in music. Sound of White Noise tour in the UK was to same sized arenas but a fraction of the crowd but the boys just played a blinder live and the balls on Bush's voice just made live gigs exciting again. Stomp 442 album and tour was even more potet and thanks to word of mouth of fans just needing a good time gig, same venues but more heads and buzz, with a new generation of metal fans loving the big energy, Volume 8 album and tour just confirmed how damn good this band is live as the album/live experience was totally blurred. Even as a support act (which many times I've seen Anthrax live) they just raised the bar for the headline act to pull their balls out of their ass or be destroyed. Just loved the new tone and drive Bush's voice added to the bands roots. Can't work ut if they toured in the UK as support with Motorhead but it was one of the best, balls out best gigs I've witnessed for being in a crowd thinking that this could of been the best gig to have at the end of the world. Big love to this era of Anthrax.

These are the nicest guys, man. Paul (! not John) Crook is such a lovable, kinda nerdy character. He and John Bush were *part of the band*, but they talk about Anthrax as if actually they were something like their biggest fans. I love it.

You mean Paul Crook? I always dug that guy on stage. I don't know why they didn't make him an official member and put him in the band photos. I liked him a lot better than Beanie Boy that came after him.

@@HabAnagarek I remember that too. But he's a super nice guy, so he's not gonna say that now. John Bush has said he wants Paul Crook involved if he ever puts together a band to go play Anthrax songs from his era for a special tour. Paul went on to have success with Meatloaf as well. So good for him!

Wow... Thank you for the kind words, guys!!! I haven't ever made a negative comment about ANTHRAX or Rob. That would be ridiculous... I consider Rob a friend and his family beautiful. I worked with Rob and his band BOILER ROOM years before he joined ANTHRAX. BUSH-THRAX... Yes, John and I have spoken about this on a few separate occasions. I hope it happens. Thanks again, guys!!!

I love this album. I wore it out with my friend in our senior year of High School. I remember seeing the video on Headbangers ball the new version. Inside out the twilight zone type video. It was awesome. It is without a doubt the most underrated album they have ever made. The riffs and Bush’s singing on the album were killer.

Volume 8 is such a great record.......one of their best IMO. Such a shame the label folded and physical copies of it disappeared shortly after. I think Scott mentioned in his book that they tried to buy the music years ago from the label so they could re-release it and got nowhere. Glad it’s available on Spotify so people who missed it when it first dropped can hear it

@@shaunbritton939 I think it is fact, not opinion! Zazulas opened the door and Metallica anthrax overkill and testament sprinted thru it. Don't forget the Old Bridge militia, which is the shirt jon is wearing on this video. They were a group of nj fans who let bands like slayer and Metallica crash and ultimately helped make their success possible. And lamours, that famous club. Anthrax and their peers would routinely play there and apparently it was pandemonium each time.

At the time Vol. 8 came out, I wasn't really into it. Didn't sound like the Anthrax I expected. Now that I'm older, I appreciate it even more because it didn't sound like the Anthrax I expected.

Fell for Anthrax in my mid-teens, '86-'87; (they were always my no. 1 as far as the big four were concerned) but the sound and the songs from the Bush era will always be my favourite. Loving the walk through memory lane. Getting to hear new stories and old. Keep cranking out the videos and tunes! Can't wait for the next vid, WCFYA. If I was forced to only have access to one Anthrax album for the remainder of my life, it would be that one. Hx

Volume 8 is my favorite of the Bush years and has some of my absolute favorite songs of theirs. Crush, Catharsis, Big Fat and Pieces are classics. I got to see them that summer or fall and it was one of my top 5 concerts ever. Obviously the crowd was a bit smaller but they played as if 70,000 people were cheering them on. While I'd love to see them play Catharsis in current times, I'm not sure Joey's voice is meant for it. Hey John Bush, please come do a special encore next time I get to see Anthrax!
