Join us today as we harvest grapes from our vintage grape vines and show you how we process them into grape juice. It is time to start seeds for a fall garden in zone 8a, we show you our easy method. If you want to know how to stencil sourdough we will give you a demonstration.
Looking for a refreshing drink made with kombucha. Then watch until the end.
Thank you for watching and have a blessed week.
Best,
Caren and Glenn

Would you be open to the idea of selling a few of your grapevine cuttings? I have mustang grapes all over my property that I just love but would like to have some more variety. So many plants cannot survive our harsh Texas weather ( I’m in CenTex) or our alkaline soil, yours are obviously Texas tough and can take the extremes our great state can dish out. I have made jelly with the mustang grapes and it’s one of the best jellies I’ve ever tasted. My dad told me stories about how him and his cousin had to harvest all the grapes for my grandmother on their homestead up in the Mineral Wells area each summer. Being new to the unique experience that processing them and the itchiness they cause the skin I inquired as to how they handled this problem before latex gloves. He shared with me that grandma used baking soda and would rub it on her skin to neutralize the burn when she needed a break or to sooth little boys’ grape picking fingers. The next time I processed my grapes I used that trick and it worked so perfectly. It always makes me smile when I use this trick because it makes me feel connected to a time long gone and people (my father has since passed) no longer with me. Who knew baking soda could bring such joy? 😊 Anyway, let me know if it’s something you’re open to and then we’ll work out the logistics, cost, and best timing. Thank you Blessings to you

I love the baking soda story and I will use it next time we pick mustang grapes. The grapes in this video according to some of the vineyard growers here are a sweet wine grape. We bought the homestead from a woman who had lived there since the 50's. The year we bought the property was 2011 one of the worst drought years and we didn't know the vines were there. Somehow they survived and we realized they must be very resilient. There is a mustang grape vine close-by and apparently mustang grapes will transfer disease to introduced grapes but this grape vine has adapted and seems disease resistant. I have had viticulture experts look at it and they say it must be a very acclimated to the environment. They told me to send a sample to UC Davis to find out the variety. We have a video about mustang grapes, you might find it interesting. Years ago I would pick at least 50 gallons in August but now it is rare if we can find any to pick at all. We have been able to pick some grapes from these vines the last few years despite drought and I am thankful. Yes, I would be glad to share a cutting with you. In at the past when I started vines from a cutting seems it was in summer. I would put the cutting in a bucket of sand under a tree and keep it moist. Hope this helps! Blessings and Happy New Year!
