Күн бұрын

This is week 2 of our Homestead Frugal Living Master Class. We will share 5 tips from our lifetime experience of frugal living. Mr. Rueffer grew up in a German pioneer family with a strong culture of frugality out of necessity. He picked cotton, no indoor plumbing until he was 13 years old, and made do with what they had.
Listen in to gather wisdom from Mr. Rueffer's lifetime of living a life of only taking what you need and making the most of your God-given resources.
I did what many of you dream of doing. That is leaving the city and moving to a homestead! I did this back in 2001 and it was uncommon, but the Lord did lead the way. So I am here to encourage you to continue your pursuit in moving your family out of the city and living this amazing agrarian life.
Blessings,
Caren

My husband & I worked hard all out life & we put our son through college. And now we are retired we don't travel or smoke or drink, but we have a new SUV. &And we enjoy going out to eat & we buy what we want at the store. I cook fresh meals we don't lie frozen food meals & I bake a lot. I have a big summer garden & I can things. But no way would I put myself through all that when I know we can afford things. We invested our money well & now are enjoying life. Enough with the hard work for us we are both 65. But I guess it's what the person enjoys. God Bless you both And we bought are mattresses we have very good sera mattresses.. And we just love them.

Thank you for the video. I loved listening to your husband speaking about his experiences on the farm. Also, I have an old truck that has been paid off for several years and I am driving it until the wheels fall off. New vehicles are just so expensive.

I love the tip about the car! We have 3 young children but we both drive old, paid for, cars. It’s not fancy or pretty but my car holds the kids and my husbands old truck gets him to and from work. You also have to roll the windows down in his truck :)

Thank you both for investing your time and knowledge to share this content! I’d love to know where you source the latex free mattress and the wool cover. Love this and yes to the best sheets! I have fallen in love with Red Land Cotton sheets.

You are welcome. I bought the mattress on Amazon and the wool cover from "The Vermont Country Store." Thank you for the sheet suggestion. I will take a look at them.

You refer to "Our Houses" are you doing rentals? I buy my beds from The Original Mattress Factory here in central Ohio they are the old fashioned kind that can be flipped over and rotated and made right here in Ohio. Queen size runs about $800 for a Set. When you said you didn't use a mattress or box springs I was expecting you to say you had a feather bed, that's what my grandparents head.. pure heaven. I wonder why they stopped making those? And feather pillows. Anna In Ohio

Thank you for sharing about "The Original Mattress Factory". I will look them up. I would like a feather bed and that is what Mr. Rueffer's grandparent had as well. I have heard some of the older German people say their grandparents kept geese for the down. I definitely would be interested if I saw feather beds for sale. Thank you for watching! We have an 1870's German rock farmhouse on our property and actually we filmed this series there. It is set up for off-grid living.( wood cook stove, windmill, etc.) Best, Caren

Should you feed chickens corn all year round or just in the winter? Or does it really matter?

I don't think it really matters. We will ferment grains in the winter for chickens. Our chickens are free range. Thank you for watching!
