I just donated plasma and platelets today for the first time! They used the same machine and I only had to be stuck in one arm! It took a long time because I have small veins, but we were able to make it work.

Never mind I saw your profile, you are a deplorable. How’d that last 4 years feel😂😂😂😂 I don’t care if orange hitler wins this time, the last 4 of watching you all cry was worth. Plus, even if trump wins, he still doesn’t get to say he held two consecutive terms like Obama did. So in the end, Barrack outdid him😂 and I know that makes the right cry because of the color of his skin

Important to note that if you do an Apheresis Power Red/Double Red donation, you have to wait 16 weeks before donating again. Also, not all blood types are suitable for a Plasma/Platelet donation. If you already know your blood type, you can save yourself the trouble prior to signing up for a donation. If you are O- or B-, you will most likely be discouraged from donating platelets and plasma, but depending on the donation center, be asked instead to do whole blood or power/double red if they have the set-up for it.

Exactly. O- and B- whole blood is in much higher demand than others. I am A+, and they told me I would be better off giving platelets, because my blood type is so common.

the experience is rewarding....it's also nice if you get a pleasant and attentive nurse/phlebotomist - mine ignored me like a bad waiter/waitress.

I am still confused- so the whole thing goes through tubing that’s only used for me and not the machine itself? Concerned About what’s happening with the blood being returned to me, if it’s encountering the machine itself that has had others blood touching it, or if the blood only goes through the tubing
@Burgervqueen2 жыл бұрын
The blood only goes through the tubing itself, the blood does not touch the machine at all, only your own single use/sterile tubing, unless there is a malfunction in the kit which is really highly uncommon, also the machine would not let the donation proceed if there was a malfunction in the kit.

Does the donor get the left over blood ALONG WITH anti coagulant back into their body?

1:41 it says every six days for plasma and every 14 days for platelets. Isn't that backwards? Or have things changed since this vid was made? Because I donate platelets once a week, and plasma every 4 weeks.

Interesting that they used a female in the video. I always see older men almost exclusively. when I donate. I asked about it and was told women cannot give this way after having a child. Also they don't mention that the whole process takes about 2 and a half hours. Not complaining, but it is something you need to be aware of.

I'm a woman and I donate platelets all the time. I see as many women donating platelets as men at the Red Cross where I give. Google it, you'll have your answer.
@horstgranz7190 Жыл бұрын
@@aquariusmoon771 Me experience is that there are mostly men. This is what I found on google: For women who have been pregnant, their platelet donations are tested for Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) antibodies. The presence of antibodies to Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) in the blood can cause an adverse reaction in patients receiving blood including lung injury and poor response to platelet transfusions.
@brittanys9991 Жыл бұрын
Being exposed to your baby's antigens can sensitize you to make antibodies to HLA antigens. This is why women are usually encouraged to donate red blood cells (antibodies are nearly undetectable in packed red blood cell products) or platelets rather than plasma (the part of the blood where the antibodies live). I donated apheresis plasma during the covid pandemic when we were using convalescent plasma from recovered covid-sufferers who tested positive for the antibodies to covid.
