I experimented with the settings and I get somewhere between 100 to 80 FPS. Which that’s fine with me for doing dungeons and dailys. I tune down the character outline the shadows the water kill the ground clutter and the spell effects at medium

Cmon cntrl+R , we care how it behaves when you turn cast a spell etc, not if you normally get 30 FPS but if you go to 5 when you rotate the screen , also please test a raid, this is the most important

thanks for that video. it's really impressive but I'll wait for the second generation. If there's the future M2 that can run games like WoW/LoL in 60fps or more I'll switch to Apple completely for gaming and work and there wouldn't be the need of an extra windows RIG

Thanks for the heads up about Mac Mini being a good mac solution for wow. I need a mac that can play it smooth without getting the Mac Studio. But my 2019 macbook pro does have the Intel processor so maybe I should just get a external GPU? Which one of those do you recommend? I'm getting ready for WOW Dragonflight!

For future reference (in case no one else pointed it out) the "FPS cap" you're experiencing is the vertical sync setting. It caps your frame rate to your display's refresh rate (in this case, 60hz/60fps).

hmm i have been wondering about that! omg because i have been playing rust and i could get on 4k ultra settings around 30 fps and then if i turn it down to 1080p on medium i still stay around 30 fps how can i change that? im on the new mbp the screen should be able to go to 120fps (i know it cant run 99.9% of things at that lol)

There’s probably a similar setting enabled. Look around for any sort of sync setting and/or fps cap. Some games have a max foreground/background fps slider.

I have basic model mbp. On 1440p, I have 60 fps on max settings. I set fans max speed and never felt its above 43 degree C. It is just amazing.

@@alexanderforever still stays pretty cool. The bottom gets warm but not as hot as others. I can remember using an intel MBP and it burning my hand

I would love to upgrade to one of these M1 Macs. The CPU seems to be amazing, however Apple made sacrifices I cannot live with. I use dual external monitors daily, and my work is a lot of development which a lot of that does not work on ARM yet. I will have to wait until the M2 Macs start to come out to see where Apple is.

@@ollydix There are many benefits of multiple monitor setups that a single monitor setup will never cover. That and to get something with the screen real-estate of dual 24's you need a 49in monitor, dual 24's are much cheaper. Never mind you could also get dual 32's, dual 37's or even dual 49's if you wanted to go that far. Single large monitors have fairly high defect rates which increases the price and lowers supply availability as well.

You can use duel monitors with an M1 mac, but you will need a display link cable. Personally, I just use a single ultra-wide monitor though.

Hearing about bluetooth issues with M1 Mac Mini. What peripherals are you using? Corded Mouse and Keyboard? Where is your monitor plugged in? HDMI port or Thunderbolt port of the M1 Mac?

turn off shadows, ground clutter 0, view distance 5, enviro detail 5, put everything else on high/ultra, no AA, it will run sweet

Ok, so I am planning to install this on my macbook pro 13 m1 16 gb on my Christmas vacantion - since I will be gone from home (from my gaming PC). Is there any chance that the game affect the hardware components of the macbook. I am asking because i have never played a game on my macbook (which i am using only for work). Thx!

I have one of these Macbooks and I can tell you the performance is better when you use HDMI to play on external monitor and shut the lid on the laptop itself. Idk why it's like that, maybe native output on the Macbook's screen is more demanding but I'm getting more than playable framerates. It's not better than a dedicated gaming laptop on PC but if you do daily things on Mac and then some WoW gaming it will work just fine.

Is blizzard already compatible to work with the apple chips? I mean work in harmony or does it need an upgrade? And if this is not exactly working at its full potential it really is an astoundingly strong performance for a small laptop. The 16 inch model is probably going to be the best performance laptop in the world if his little brother already is the king now.. thanks for the review and test.

Well between those choices I’d say the M1. The 16 inch is double the price. Do you do anything else? Adobe, final cut, develop, etc?

@@JeffTheITGuy im a medical student, workin with medical apps and programms, who schoing 3d parts of the body and there movement, so it needed some "power". further i wanted to have the option to work with some photographic programms. and at last as u know WoW ^^ money is not a prob, i will use it at least, 6-7 years :)

Hey man. Great video. It looks like you’re playing with Razer Naga Pro (or Trinity?). Wonder how it works with Mac OS? I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about the partial compatibility. Also we’re you able to bind the spells to Shift (or Ctrl) + side mouse buttons?

Doesn’t really work great on Mac to be honest. The side buttons will work but ctrl or shift + side buttons doesn’t work.

It doesn't really matter since MacBook displays support only 60 Hz.

@@sonlc You are actually wrong. If you are playing a game at 120 fps, but only have a refresh rate of 60, those are wasted frames as your monitor cant refresh that fast to show those frames. I know I'm late, I just thought I would inform you of how it works.

Regarding the FPS cap, the MacBook Pro display has a 60 Hz refresh rate, so any FPS past 60 would be a complete waste.

I concur. The screen won't show more than 60 FPS, so if you set your computer to do more FPS, all you are accomplishing is making more heat for no gain. Cap it at 60 and save some energy and chip and component life.

Yep that’s how it goes. That MBA has a pretty low resolution which is helping you out on being able to play it.

1440x 900 is a lot easier to output than 2560x1600.

Vsync and shadows draw a lot of performance. Try preset 10 on around 1080p and put shadows and liquid on lowest and disable Vsync! ;)

8gb is fine, the M1 Air has 1 less GPU core so it’s performance won’t be as good as the MacBook Pro or Mini.

For note, My i9 15-inch Macbook Pro (RX 560X 16gb RAM, external 1440p monitor), I am getting 60 FPS in legacy zones, and 40-50 FPS in shadowlands zones. MY main CPU core is at about 45%, but the GPU is at 100%. I would also like to note, using an external display with a lower resolution is the best experience graphic wise, most people are used to 1080p gaming, 1440p is the ideal goal right now. This reviewer is playing at the same resolution as me, and my older MacBook pro is getting MUCH better performance, AND at slightly higher settings. If you want to use the mac screen, it is ESSENTIAL to use the resolution scale, which makes the game look BAD, even with the resample quality ACTUALLY set to bilinear or bicubic. Do yourself a favor and hold off till the 16-inch Macbook Pro comes out in (hopefully) march, if apple follows past projections, we'll see a MUCH better GPU, I would expect 1660 performance. PLEASE quote me on that. Or just buy a gaming laptop. Maybe even one you can turn into a hackinstosh. For the same price you can get a GPU that outperforms the M1 by 5x.

Thanks for the information Jacob. While this review was not to promote the new MacBook Pro as the end all be all but to show that a $1299 MacBook Pro on a new architecture could play said game without a discrete GPU such as yours. This is merely to show the power of the GPU in Apples new M1 chips for those who like I mentioned in the video do both content creation or iOS development and also like to play wow.

...Wrath is an expansion that comes with the game. You cannot download any one specific expansion at this time. The only thing available right now is Classic.

your VSYNC setting was enabled that’s why you’re capping the FPS at 60. You would be getting way better FPS if your VSYNC was off

might be some internal cap on the macbook pro for FPS cause i watched this video , kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbeYZKqAuL-zpnk.html, and he had FPS running on the screen and it seemed to stay between 60s-80 FPS ,looked lke it was only up to BFA so unsure about SL but it did get past 60 fps

I bought the M1 Ultra Studio and WoW played on it with some stuttering. However, I installed Asahi Linux on it and now I get over 100fps in dungeons and outside areas that aren't too dense. I'm glad support for Linux is getting better on Apple silicone as I'm switching to Linux fully on my MacBook Pro as soon as I can!

@@JeffTheITGuy Can I just add, I meant I'm switching to a fully operational Linux distro that I will have side by side. Not that I would wipe my Macbook for Linux alone lol. I thought I'd better mention that because apparently Linus Torvalds buys Macbooks and wipes them for Fedora Linux. And since he was heard to do it, it's meant to be a kind of Geek/Dev/Hipster thing to do to your Mac by wiping it for Linux. But I'm not that stupid or rich lol

But I've always been of the opinion, if you're going to have a Linux laptop, buy an old Windows 7/Vista i3-i5 Toshiba Satellite and breathe new life into it with Fedora or Linux Mint/Ubuntu. I use all OS's and if I build a PC, I want my premium components performing at 100%. When I buy a Mac, I want my Mac to excel in the areas that my PC can't. But with Linux, I don't think you pay premium PC component or Mac premium and install anything other than what makes it work 100%. That's just me of course, but dual booting or reviving an older PC/Mac is what Linux really excels at.

this is upsetting honestly! I have a 2017 MacBook Air with its complete hard rive dedicated to Wow I plain graphics level 2 recommended settings in window full screen same scaling Rez with 50fps 6gb ram 250g ssd I have the thing clocked to its max.... and they come with an M1 that should be better but I am laughing now seeing your graphics and compared to my 500$ Lenovo build from best buy I have better graphics and performance. I can't seem to want to spend 1400 for a base model when you could get that specs on a computer when a build for 600-700 on computer builder would get you 200fps no lag.

I don’t think anyone is building anything for $600-$700 anymore due to the pandemic, you can barely find a GPU for that. Also, it is important to note that this was right after the M1 came out. I haven’t tested it after updates and such

Oh just use boot camp put Windows on it and play wow make sure is 15 inch versions for the dedicated graphics not the integrated with the 13-inch.

To be fair they aren’t built for gaming but for productivity,longevity, etc. Same concept applies to gaming PCs, you’d think a $4500 gaming pc would last 4x as long as a $1000 PC, that’s not necessarily the case though.

60hz is screen refresh rate. You cant have more fps than screen can show.

Not exactly a high graphics demanding game since it is really outdated graphics engine compared to newer games. Just play any Chinese MMORPG the graphics are stunning compared to WOW.
