Sheena Lowell, the 16th person to testify at trial, was a tuber on the Apple River and a witness to the trial. She testified she was not drinking because she's a recovering alcoholic. She said her tubing group came around a bend in the river and a group of younger people was yelling for help. Then, some people from her group walked over to help, including Madison Coen, who was eventually punched in the face. She said police took photos of Madison's face.

"He approached this group and got into their personal space first. He grabbed their tubes, and dropped his own damn snorkel because he had both hands on their tube. They told him to leave multiple times before anyone had touched him. He just made creepy faces and refused to go on his way. He brandished his knife and had it in his hand before anyone touched him. You can’t see it in the video, but he did hit one of the girls before he was pushed into the water, as evidenced by her sunglasses being on her face just a moment prior and then missing when she comes into frame again. THAT’S when they started yelling at him and pushed him into the water. This is when he sliced up the first guy’s stomach (in the orange shorts) and disemboweled him. He then stabs the girl in the bikini in the back, when she wasn’t even facing him. At this point people realize he is going on a stabbing spree and begin to run away. Instead of him doing the same (if he was truly afraid for his life), he stabs/disembowels 3 more of them, killing one. Then he calmly walks away as if nothing happened, discards the knife in the trees (conscious knowledge of guilt and disposal of evidence), and then walks to the opposite side of the river to rejoin his group. He did not try get help, for himself or any of his victims. Instead he convinced his group to continue their float down the river and left the victims for dead. After getting out of the water, he changed his clothes to disguise himself and then lied multiple times to police, because he didn’t know there was video of the encounter. This guy is an absolute psychopath, and no matter how loudly those kids were yelling at him, he initiated this encounter, refused to leave their space, and drew his weapon before anyone had touched or threatened him. Nothing about the way this guy created this situation or responded to it is defensible. ESPECIALLY continuing to stab 3 more people after everyone started running away, and stabbing one of the victims in her back when she wasn’t even facing him." important summary from the original video post for the people in denial who think that loser psycho man did nothing wrong

@@taylorfrink1182 someone approaching their area and needing to distance himself with their tube to keep from getting attacked shows how violent they were. All it takes is one punch to kill someone in their 60s. Plus 7 against one. Is all you need for self defense. Just because they got the worst of it means nothing. There are not private property boundaries. Anyone should be able to swim up and down the river where ever they want. They were all drunk and tried to prove how bad they were to each other and got there assess handed to them . Self defense

And especially if you're an adult and you see loud teens having a good time. You can't take them seriously or let them bruise your ego. Teens will be teens. As an adult, mr mui should've just walked back to his crowd and laughed it off etc. It's similar to road rage. Ppl that are armed, whether knife or gun, will feel like they're obligated to not back down and stay and fight. Mr mui had plenty of chances to just leave and even the blonde girl from the second group walked over and told him to just leave them alone and go back to his crowd, but mui being armed and hearing loud mouth teens make fun of him, he felt he needed to teach them a lesson. The look on his face says it all. From the beginning. He looked like a deranged lunatic. He definitely wasn't fearing for his life. If he was so afraid, he would've just left them alone and walked back to his crew.

None of the "victims" are innocent victims. The defendant had a right to be where he was, people forget that he was looking for a cell phone which could have cost $1,500, and most likely had personal and financial information. The defendant had a right to look for the cell phone and the groups of people had no right to tell him to leave. In addition, putting your hands on someone is considered assault. Not a single witness has a clean slate on this one. Never push someone into a corner as you never know if, when, & how they will react. I would be humiliated to have been a part of such a group much less to be the person (Mr. Cockfield) who incited the group as they are responsible for a young man's death (as is the young man himself). 15 to 20 people against 1 person... this was definitely overcharged... and the kids all have blood on their hands.

Funny when adults can’t be adults and clearly can’t tell when one should be one. The guy had ample opportunity to leave before anything escalated. If you watch the entire trial you would have seen him aggressively run up to their tubes and push it which is why the young boys stood up. He didn’t exactly seem like he wanted ”to be left alone”. He’s all brave because he has a weapon which is why he hung around and wouldn’t back down but now wants to cry to mama because he’s facing punishment for stabbing minors who hurt his feelings with some name calling. Someone’s bruised ego meant even other groups not involved couldn’t convince him to leave even though they told him to. News flash he was tubing too but didn’t seem in a hurry to join his family and friends… next time buddy needs to get back on his tube with his little weapon muscles and move it along.

I've sat as a juror for 6 weeks on a federal trial. He actually sounds just like the prosecution in that case. You may think he's not good, but he is exactly what they sound like. He stops himself because he has to ask questions in such a way there can be no holes in meaning by the defense. That is why it is choppy. The minimum amount of objections by the defense show how thorough his questioning is.

Owen's initial police report stated that Miu told the boys that he was looking for a phone when they floated to where he was searching. It was only after corroborating that this story changed. A bit of a coincidence that this lined up with Miu's story so closely. Police also recovered the phone he was looking for afterward.

Both parties have made grievous mistakes in this case. I don’t defend him for stabbing anyone to the point that they might die. And someone DID die. But those young people were also bullying and putting him in physical danger as well. The whole thing was very wrong on both sides. If those young, drunk people weren’t bullying him, this might not have happened. The man who stabbed them was being violent in a way that was not acceptable. This is what happens when people don’t think before they act. And when people who are drinking alcohol shouldn’t be drinking. I feel bad for everyone who were traumatized and their lives were changed because of this terrible day. May everyone heal properly and quickly, and learn from what happened. Getting older helps us all learn things that we didn’t know when we were younger. Mr. Miu has had a hard life and I believe he was triggered into doing something wrong. He should have walked away and let it go. If they let him. I wasn’t there and I didn’t see everything of course. May the injured people heal well and are able to live a peaceful and positive life. May everyone learn lessons that will benefit them in each of their lives. No more anger, or violence should happen because of this tragedy. I wish everyone well.

I can only repeat myself: Nothing is more scary than a mob that is turning violent. The accused was completely alone, surrounded and cornered by half-drunks who seemed to be having a lot of "fun". I don't know which way "justice" will go in this case, but Mr. Miu appears to have had pretty good reasons at a certain point to fear for his physical integrity, if not for his life. He could not really "run away", so he did the only thing that was left for him to do: He hit back.

Hitting back is completely different to stabbing someone, how would you feel if your teenager was stabbed to death by this man?? I’m not saying that the teenagers weren’t in the wrong, they 100% were, they were pushing this man and one teenager punched him wishing is NOT ok at all, I would go off at my teenager if I saw them do that to someone, however, it still does NOT give Nic the right to stab people. He could have either walked away or hit back with his fist to the guy that punch him, but definitely not have stabbed people!!!!

@louderthanwordsInclusivity I have since watched the beginning of the video and testimony from the teens at the trial, and they were drunk and had smoked pot. The one filming decided for some crazy reason he thought the older man was weird and declared that the man was looking for girls and called him a pedophile. The whole group started doing the same. The man lost his phone, and they mocked him and called him names. He dropped his phone and they wouldn't let him get his phone. He started to walk away, and the teens intensified their yelling, calling him names and cussing at him. He went back, and one of the girls was yelling in his face and may have pushed him or hit him. He may have hit her. The teens were like a rabbid pack of hyenas after their prey who was weaker than them. He was. He had had open heart surgery. They pushed him down numerous times and even pushed his head under the water. Another group joined them, men in their mid 20s. So he had about ten laughing at him, pushing him down, cussing at him, calling him pedophile and other names. At this point, I would be very scared for my life. He could not physically fight them off. So he pulled out his knife as one of them came at him again.
